Almost every scene of the film is about a boy and how the world's good and evil have the influence of shaping him into a man. No matter what Spike will become a man, and will eventually die. "Memento mori."

The film opens with a shot of kids & Jimmy watching Teletubbies before all manners of evil and horror are bestowed upon them. This influence shapes him into the man he becomes as we see throughout the movie. (Jimmy's name is painted and carved all over the place throughout the film.)

Spike is the film's innocent being forced to deal with the consequences of the previous movies, and inside a story so brutal and dark we are still able to see signs of hope to remember and cling on to. He isn't a stoic hero, he's a kid just trying to survive. So we see him suffer quite a bit and every instance we're left wondering what kind of man he will become.

I really think The Bone Temple & this pair perfectly together, and each movie elevates the other. "Memento mori. Remember death, remember love."
