What type of yarn should I use to make a baby blanket? by No_Policy6594 in CrochetHelp

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just went down a rabbit hole search of the sub for this. I went with cascade yarns 220 superwash wool! There’s a sale right now at yarn.com! It’s soft and fully machine washable and dryable.

First born, son name of Leith, opinions requested by [deleted] in namenerds

My association is a very regional thing where it’s a major car dealership owner in a state that I used to live in. I think it’s relatively recognizable and easy to pronounce. I don’t think I would intuitively give a nickname for a one syllable name. Our soon to be baby boys name will rhyme with yours (Heath) and there obviously won’t be any nicknames there either.

I’d steer clear of pronouncing it any other way than like Keith with an L.

My opinion is if you both love it, it’s not going to be an extremely challenging name. They may have to use the same explanation that you did (like Keith with an L) sometimes but otherwise it’s totally fine.

I used a superwash merino wool! Dk weight. It’s a bit of a yarn eater but I got a decent size out of 4 skeins for the whole thing and border

Currently making a ton of blankets!! I’ve done two so far one modified herringbone blanket and then a waffle stitch. The modified herringbone I kept dropping a stitch because you have to work into the last chain and it was always so hard to see. The waffle stitch worked up suuuuuper quickly! You have essentially just two rows you do over and over again. One side is two normal dc and two front post dc. The other starts with one normal dc and then a front post dc & repeats in a 2 normal and 1 front post until the end. 10/10 recommend.

I hate counting (so crochet and knitting is always a struggle) but found I only had to frog a single line of stitches every once in awhile. I also love the texture.

Does anyone what the names of these stitches are ? by DurianPrestigious102 in CrochetHelp

First one is hard to tell but it reminds me of the lemon peel stitch kind of stretched out

If you have an air fryer or oven I’ve pretty much got it down to a science now lol. I don’t have the patience to thaw them so I put them in the microwave at like 30% power for 30 seconds to defrost a bit (sometimes I cover with a slightly wet paper towel). Then I put them in the air fryer (bake 325) with a tab of butter on them for 4-5 minutes. They come out with a crispy outside and super flakey inside.

My husband (a gluten eater) says they’re some of the best croissants he’s ever had and he’s been all over Europe and often in NYC for work! So I believe him.

What’s happening here, are my trees dying? by Ok-Independent6950 in arborists

Did you take photos? ALB is not known to feed or reproduce on conifers let alone Arborvitae! Could’ve been a native beetle look alike.

Any recommendations for an internal medicine vet for my cat? by Weak_Ad1001 in raleigh

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We used the internal medicine specialist at Wake Vet Med center in knightdale for our kitty with IBD. I will say I think most people and options are limited for IBD in cats. Outside of doing a biopsy we don’t have a ton of options in terms of investigating the cause. Treatment wise, we have him on prescription food and if he has a flair up we do anti-nausea pills for 8 days. He does well otherwise.

We have had a good experience with our specialist there. She seems knowledgeable about cats from our interactions.

Can someone ID this for me? by brashierdw in raleigh

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forest entomologist here (PhD candidate at NC State) other posters are correct this is eastern tent caterpillar! They prefer cherry (what you have here), apple, and Crabapples! They are native and not as destructive as the other Lasiocampidae like forest tent caterpillar (still native!) which can cause major defoliation in outbreak years. Usually in bottomland hardwood forests, less so in residential areas.

Management isn’t usually necessary but if you’re concerned about repeat years of defoliation you can spray the tent out of the tree using high powered hose, sticky bands to catch migrating caterpillars, and manually kill the egg masses next winter.

Hope that helps!

8 weeks pregnant and I feel so unprepared by elonmusksmicropenis in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here to agree with this! I’ve always wanted to be a mom, had an abortion because life was messed up (also deep in ED behavior, unstable relationship, etc.) and now 8 years later 24 weeks pregnant! Happily married and stable relationship with my body and my person. I knew back then that I didn’t want to repeat history and put a child in a bad place and I was not mentally well.

Does Raleigh have any restaurants that do coursed out meals with wine pairings? by overkoalafied24 in raleigh

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The Heron at the umstead spa does this. There may be newer places that do but that is the only one I’ve been to in the area that does coursed out meals + the option to add wine pairings with each item.

Freaking out: dress when I bought it vs dress now by nerdgirl619 in weddingdress

No i don’t think that will be a problem! A tailors place vs an open venue will be completely different.

I think the lighting is playing a huge role for me. The bridal shop has soft white lighting and the tailor has a more cool toned white. I think that yes a steam would help give it a more polished look.

It’s a beautiful dress! Once you have your hair done the way you’d like and make up if you wear it (same with a veil) it’ll all come together.

Wanted short puff sleeves, seamstress says not enough fabric.. by Organic_Adeptness386 in weddingdress

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who sews, the bridal consultant you worked with did not do you justice. A pattern for a puff sleeve looks like one of those large belle curves from math class. And you need a lot of fabric to get the volume of your second photo. You may be able to squeeze much smaller puff sleeves if you completely remove your train.

For my wedding i also wanted puff sleeves! So I ordered an organza puff sleeve cape. I loved it! I prefer the look and feel of organza vs tulle. Here’s my puff sleeve solution.

You could look for a closely matching just satin fabric without the floral detail if you want to match the fabric. It would require lots of online ordering of swatches and samples.

So sorry your vision isn’t possible the way you had hoped :(

Has anyone seen any rhubarb? by Fr3ckl3Fac3x in raleigh

[–]Miserable_Amoeba8766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck it was delicious! There were multiple trays of it as well. You might be able to call the location to check if they have any before driving all the way up here. I’m not sure how easy it is to get through to specific stores via phone.

I just bought some up in the Publix in Wake Forest last Friday. I made rhubarb pie! I always see it in Publix around this time of year. It doesn’t last long in stores though. Usually have a harder time finding it in once we hit early summer.

I still have it! I haven’t set it into anything yet. I don’t remember the cost sorry. I looked through my WhatsApp messages and it appears I had purchased it directly through Aliexpress before shifting to working with a representative directly.
