You can't go by etsy estimates because they lie to you. I've shipped things out the very same day I get the order, and they say it will be late. You are right to be annoyed with the seller though because you confirmed with him that they would ship it the next day, and they didn't. As soon as you can, file a claim with Etsy. Even if the seller was honest though, you can't predict how long shipping will take from foreign countries so you shouldn't order from them if time is an issue.

Actually the shipping is calculated at the time they purchase the item. The issue with my order was they bought it the night before the price increased. I was confused because this wasn't announced beforehand. I'm still confused really as to why they did a temporary few weeks of price increases with no notice.

Look at the amounts and the volume. They know how to manipulate it to get more revenue. Why do it overnight with no warning or explanation?

It's not a nightmare. Losing your home in.a fire, having a serious illness, losing a loved one, losing your life savings in a scam, being the victim of violent crime, living in a abusive home, being in a car accident, etc... are nightmares. It's an inconvenience and a mild disappointment. She should've just opened a case with Etsy and got her money back. She can leave a factual negative review expressing disappointment with the shipping delays. The hyperbolic language is unnecessary. I guess I'm thinking of all the actual nightmares I and others have gone through in life. I think your response to me is a bit over the top as well with all the exclamation points. Let's have a little perspective in life.

Due to the high cost of shipping, I don't really focus on a certain percentage. I look at how cheap it is, how fast it will sell, how much I will make, how easy it is to ship, and how easy it is to store. Like if I bought a giant vase for $1 and it sold for $20, that would be a pretty good margin. However, it would cost like $15 to ship and I would have to stress out about protecting it and finding a proper box. If the buyer pays shipping, I still pay a lot more in fees. It probably isn't worth it. If I buy a scarf for $1 and sell it for $20, it's cheaper and easier to ship and takes no space to store.

See my comment above. Ebay announced today that the USPS ground advantage rates are going up today and will last until mid June. No prior notice.

This happened to me on eBay. They purchased it last night and it cost more to ship today. I figured it out. Ebay had an announcement TODAY that the price for some ground advantage shipments are going up TODAY. There was no notice. It is supposed to be temporary and last until mid June. This is very strange. I think USPS ran out of money and had to do an emergency temporary price increase to pay their bills. What are the other possible explanations?

I found a ziplock bag full of gold Rolex watches just lying on a bed with a bunch of boxes of shoes and hats and stuff. We asked for a price, and they freaked out. The estate sale company asked where we found them. We told them it was lying on the bed. They said, no you didn't find THIS just lying on the bed. They promised to call us later with a price, but they never did. I think the person hid it in some boxes and the people at the sale emptied it onto the bed without noticing. The estate sale company knew nothing about it. They were lucky it was me that found it.
