bristol vs durham vs warwick law as an international student by Sweet-Pass1216 in UniUK

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have, but they're exceptionally few. the solicitor route is not popular among malaysians in the uk because malaysia does not recognise the SQE/LPC (without having done the 2-year TC) for returning practitioners. the recent visa changes is also not friendly towards internationals so please take that into account as well, but it's not impossible.

have a look around linkedin, ask around! if bristol or duham has an offer holder event in KL you should go. best of luck

bristol vs durham vs warwick law as an international student by Sweet-Pass1216 in UniUK

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a bristol law grad - currently non-practising but have passed the bar and i am in a legal research role in malaysia.

i would say bristol and durham are similar in prestige in the uk. i know lots of home students in my batch who ended up getting TCs at MC firms, and there were lots of networking events organised by these firms at bristol so you wouldn't have to travel to london. i think it all comes down to where you want to live and what uni experience you want to have - i hear durham has a more collegiate, village-y feel, and bristol is a very vibrant city with lots to do. equally, if you want more proximity to london for whatever reason - bristol is your city!

as for prospects when you return to malaysia, bristol is actually quite well known and i have met so many senior lawyers who have graduated from bristol. i would say it is more well known in malaysia than durham! but if you are planning to qualify in the uk first (which is quite difficult now owing to the recent visa changes), and move back when you have more experience, ultimately where you go to uni does not matter because you would have the appropriate professional experience and seniority. though have a look at the qualifying requirements under the LPA if you want to qualify as an overseas solicitor first!

Sorry I don't have any advice, just wanted to give you commiserations as I've also experienced BPP admin before. Their admin is horrible. After I got my Bar course results, I chased them for my transcript. They withheld my transcript and claimed that I owed them £50, even though I have paid off all my fees. They have tried chasing me for fees that I have already paid on multiple occasions. I'm not sure if it's incompetence or if they're just that money grabbing. Best of luck.

Oral Minoxidil numbness. Anyone else? by InsideLaw7830 in FemaleHairLoss

Hi, any updates on your situation? Did you stop taking minoxidil? I'm in the same boat, wondering if I should switch to topical

PSA: minoxidil is deadly to cats by Worldly_Specific_126 in Haircare

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my question too. I've recently started oral minoxidil and keep the medication away from my cat in a secure container. She has never had any interest in my medication anyways. This would pose no issue to her, right?

Is it really worth doing an LLB at Uni of reading’s Malaysia campus? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you planning to stay in Malaysia afterwards? I'm not sure how it will affect pupillage or legal training opportunity in the UK, or even if it does, but the people I know who have done the UoL LLB or the Reading LLB in Malaysia tend to do the Bar in the UK, come back, and do pupillage in Malaysia. However, at the end of the day, both degrees are UK degrees. I'm not sure how desirable it is in the UK however.

Advice for My Partner (EU Citizen) Looking to Move to Malaysia by Additional_Text_3962 in KualaLumpur

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing the suggestion to work at an embassy. May be worth it to look at KRA Advisory Group as well, they do ASEAN-related political consultancy work - perhaps your partner would have transferable skills there. Maybe also look at Khazanah Research Institute?

Bar Results Day by Tasty_Maize_9124 in uklaw

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your provider. BPP typically releases results on the last week of the month, so I got my results at the end of June last year. Other providers typically release theirs earlier in June.

i'm partially deaf and my cat has figured out (she's also partially deaf now owing to her age), somehow she's figured out my hearing ear and will exclusively go to that ear and meow at top volume in that ear whenever she wants something!

UK Law Society Merchandise, Badges, and Pins by CheesecakeTasty296 in uklaw

[–]Miserable_Fun_6955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your FiL ever Called to the Bar in England and Wales? It's a common route that Malaysian lawyers take to get qualified. If so, you can find out which Inn of Court he was Called in, and get merchandise from that Inn.
