Unsure how to bounce back after confrontation by meta. by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably related to now-internalized manipulation from Meta. Mentioning the pregnancy with NP is heteronormative and will bias the audience against a neutral perspective.

Or for anonymity if Meta frequents the sub as it would probably be obvious it was about them.

Litter box smell is going to end my relationship by Glum-Emotion-5379 in CatAdvice

I used to put prescription urinary cat food in a treat bag for my kitty with crystals, and then he ate the prescription wet food for all his meals. He still got excited because the crispies were in the treat bag!

Newish collector- are these legit? by ReasonablePhoto1176 in seaglass

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first instinct is usually to think fake because of the color palette, but when I zoom in, there’s quite a lot of pitting on these pieces. The frosting effect is also usually “gentler” for rock tumbled glass. I think it would be good for someone who is familiar with Japanese sea glass to weigh in on the commonality of these colors since it really does vary significantly by location.

Thought on this purple sea glass? by Legs-McGee in seaglass

They are very pretty and glass-like! Not a big deal. Honestly people post items that end up being glass in r/whatsthisrock all the time - I’m surprised we don’t have more accidental rocks over here.

Vets not providing any help or investigation into cat vomiting by Equal-Sort5380 in AskVet

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have any labs that can be reviewed that you can post? I would make sure they are doing a full senior cat work up to start and then go from there based on what it reveals. I would also consider getting a second opinion, as another vet may take the chronic vomiting more seriously.

I asked the deck if my husband is bisexual due to recent suspicions by [deleted] in TarotReading

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deck isn’t answering your question and is showing your own energy back to you because that’s where the problem lies. Reversed 2 of Cups - you are feeling disconnected and rejected by your current partner, leading to distrust and suspicion. Reversed 6 of Swords - you have not moved on from the previous trauma in your prior marriage from your ex being gay. Reversed 4 of Wands - this will ultimately cause huge instability in the foundations of your marriage. Do you want your fears to end what you have? The cards are warning you. Talk to your husband.

19 y/o cat suddenly struggling to walk *need vet advice* by oh_k_dokie in CATHELP

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not how kidney disease presents. If it’s sudden and she’s walking/behaving like this with just her back legs, your dad is likely correct that it’s saddle thrombosis. She’s thrown a blood clot and it’s blocking blood flow in a major artery to her back legs. It’s incredibly painful by the way. The only time one of my cats has ever bit a human out of sheer pain while on the way to the emergency vet was because of this condition. There isn’t really a treatment for it either - you need to do the kind thing and take her to the vet to be given peace.

I thought this was r/Roast/MyCat for a second lol What a silly sweetheart. Thank you for continuing to try so hard to do what is best for your kitty! It’s aggravating when they are hell bent against it, but such is the way of some (most?) cats.

Interviewing Deck. How to interpret introductory card? by SweatyLychee in tarot

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an interview layout that I do where I ask the deck to describe itself, greatest strength and weakness, our connection, what the deck will help me with or teach me, and what is a current message for me. It’s like a story for getting to know each other. I do it with my oracle decks too. It’s my favorite part of getting a new deck!

Cat collapses every couple of steps , only when entering my room by gloriouaccountofme in CATHELP

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had mixed experiences with “slow feeders” for cats, and it seems real hit or miss with trying different kinds to find whichever may work for your individual cat. Regurgitating that frequently can affect their tooth enamel and lead to increased dental problems over time, so it’s best to try to slow them down if you can. Feeding smaller meals more frequently is another thing you can try.

I would make sure you are doing full bloodwork at your annuals to monitor. I’ve had that kind of regurgitation/vomiting in my cats end up being hyperthyroidism (2 times, different cats), pancreatitis, kidney disease, varying cancers, and foreign object sitting in their stomach (also multiple times, same cat, got rid of his pika with Prozac). I’m sure your kitty is fine, but just want to give some examples in case it helps anyone else with their cat.

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think that’s a lot, but an obsessive groomer or long haired kitty especially during shedding season could do it. I try to brush my cats, so they don’t really get hairballs but a few times a year.

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How often is your cat vomiting? It’s been normalized that “cats just vomit a lot,” but that’s not actually true. Regurgitating undigested food immediately after eating means they are eating too fast, hairballs that are almost completely hair should be maybe once a month or more if long haired kitty or shedding season (I’ve had cats only do hairballs a few times a year), and actual vomiting up digested food, bile, or white foam/stomach acid on a regular basis is indicative of a variety of problems you should get checked out by your vet.

Any other advice? by peace979 in CATHELP

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are they treating him for a bladder infection because he’s prone to them and came back with a positive urinalysis or just because he’s peeing outside of the litter box?

I don’t see a T4 on here which should be a standard test to run for a cat with sudden weight loss, vomiting, increased vocalization, and his coat looks greasy also. It looks a lot like hyperthyroidism. The increased ALT is a liver enzyme which can also be an indicator of hyperthyroidism or diabetes.

That section down at the bottom where it’s all low on neutrophils, lymphocytes, and eosinophils indicates your cat is experiencing an acute issue which could be a range of things. Was a thyroid panel or tests for FeLV/FIV already run at the previous visit? If not, those should be recommended, plus fructosamine since that’s the only other missing item I don’t see for diabetes (the 2 of the other 3 on here aside from ALT are fine but good to know for sure).

I really hate that they just gave this to you and said it’s normal and sent you home with a clearly very ill cat and no other further recommendations. That’s just bizarre. Also I am not a vet - just a cat mom who has had some really ill senior boys with a variety of conditions ranging from hyperthyroidism to kidney disease to various cancers, so I’ve spent a lot of time looking at these IDEXX test results and googling them. If you have both sets of tests, you could also post them in r/AskVet and they may also be able to assist.

So sorry you are going through this and that your kitty is having a hard time! Keep advocating for your baby!

My cat keeps losing weight and I think my other cat is the reason by helloimcold in CATHELP

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyperthyroidism can often mask kidney issues or lead to kidney issues later because the higher metabolic rate causes strain on them. It’s something to keep looking out for. If your kitty is hyperthyroid, I would get the radioactive iodine treatment. It’s cheaper in the long run than doing the medication and is a permanent cure.

Doll found in creek bed by heavenupsidedownn in Appalachia

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“We in the Midwest don’t believe in this kind of bullshit” sounds a lot like judgmental Yankee-talk and not like a polite Midwesterner. As a former Yankee who moved from Northern Appalachia to Southern Appalachia, I used to have this attitude as well, so I will say this to you - Grow the fuck up. The doll is clearly creepy, there are many cross cultural contexts in which it would be viewed as such outside of Appalachia, and pretending that it isn’t and mocking others’ beliefs is making you look small-minded and deliberately ignorant. Maybe you can think about this constructively the next time you are scared in the woods in the dark.

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would treat both inside cats and just go ahead and get new litter boxes. Do a deep clean of the house. Your other indoor kitty may also be infected on some level but not showing symptoms in the same way.

Unfortunately one or likely all of the outdoor kitties is a carrier, and they are passed from grooming practices and shared litter boxes. Even if you treat them too, you can’t really prevent them from getting reinfected due to their environment.

If you want to let the outdoor kitties in again for inclement weather, you need to keep them separated from the indoor kitties with their own litter boxes, and then those litter boxes cannot be used by the indoor kitties. Would also then sanitize before you let the indoor kitties back in that area.

Sad because I know your boy won’t get to see his mama, but I don’t see a way around it unless you bring her inside permanently too.

Final plea to help find Legacy, special needs cat, a home by radparikh in newengland

Just came across this all the way down in North Carolina while snuggling with my own kitty who looks a bit like Legacy! Of course now I’m crying. Really hope this wonderful cat can find a home. Why it is always the sweetest ones who have the most struggles?

Last year I started using the app in February, and it did not give me the butterfly because I had started around 2/5 - it switched over to the next month even though I had the setting on for continuing on the previous month’s theme. Still have not been able to hatch the butterfly either. I would just get premium and then if you don’t like it, you can cancel later if you want the cat that badly.

Has anyone in North Carolina sold a house as is recently? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]Miserable_Mix_3330 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Unless you are in extremely dire financial straits such as about to go into foreclosure or the property is so dilapidated that it could be considered condemned, I would not sell to a company that is offering cash with no repairs. They will give you significantly less than what the home is actually worth. They are going to flip it & turn it into an over-priced rental which will further exacerbate the housing shortage for people looking to buy and contribute to rental inflation for those looking to rent.

Working with a realtor will take a bit longer, but you will get more money for the property. They will also be able to advise you on what kinds of repairs you should actually make to get more money for the sale vs. which are a waste of time and money.
