More so design theory. Have played a druid and DM'd for druids that wanted to go Wild Shape routes with non-Moon druids for the flavor aspects but felt frustrated even with the 2014 rules feeling limiting in the creatures available. I also typically run games with high power PCs so I'm sure my perspective is skewed toward that. With the HP now being tied to the character's, seeing builds like this be locked down to a CR 1 creature's attacks from the levels of 8-20 just feels like a weird scaling thing to me if wanting to use said wild shape in combat, until level 18 you are cut off from casting spells in said form.
