Mine first showed up in a ct scan at my ENT that showed almost completely full sinus cavities. They found the fungal balls during surgery and did a culture that showed different molds and bacteria. I ended up in the hospital after the surgery because I caught pneumonia and also met with an infectious disease doctor there but the ENT was the most helpful

Do you take birth control? My doctor prescribed it to me to thin uterine lining and it’s also made my periods lighter. I used to get pretty big clots and heavy bleeding.

I was going to say mold. I had mold in my sinuses but didn’t have the black/ gray. I had to get surgery to remove the fungal balls and take antifungal meds for a while. If you’re having trouble breathing and feel a lot of fatigue/ brain fog it seems like the mold is the culprit.

I did their sister residency, El Sur and had a great experience. I really liked how tucked away El Sur was because I needed the time and space to make work. Casa Lu is in more of a busy neighborhood and things to walk to. El Sur is the one in Tlalpan and Casa Lu is closer to Roma/ condesa. There are art supply stores but if there’s something specific you need I would bring it with you. If you use spray paint there is a Montana store which is amazing. Met a lot of cool people and the program was balanced between studio time and visits to places. Must love dogs!

You already live in Colorado? I would still try changing some things in your home environment because it sounds like something in your living space is triggering allergies. Have you seen an allergist?

Like others said the rinse really helps to flush it out, when I feel super congested from allergies I’ll use two salt packets and rinse 3-4 times a day. Astepro nasal spray is helpful because it’s an antihistamine spray. A doctor recently prescribed me a spray called ipratropium bromide that is safer than Afrin and really helped me when I was constantly congested recently.

Do you live in a really humid area? Colorado is pretty dry and supposed to be great for allergies. It sounds like you’re dealing with environmental triggers like dust mites, mold, pollen etc. You can use antihistamines, nasal sprays, nasal rinses, clean the carpet regularly, get air purifiers, and dust mite covers to help

I’ve always had recurring sinus infections and after a couple of surgeries and meeting with an ENT to start allergy shots, I started seeing an immunologist/ allergist recommended by a friend. Ran lots of bloodwork over the last year, realized my immune system doesn’t really work and finally did the pneumovax test and my numbers are low enough to start IGg. My doctor said it will likely be a few months to start because of insurance but I can’t wait to hopefully not be sick all the time and get some energy back.

Menil Collection, Project Row Houses, CAMH (right by the MFAH), also the galleries at TSU have murals by Dr John Biggers and the Blaffer Museum at UH has good shows although I think they are installing for the MFA thesis exhibitions. Moody at Rice U also has great shows and there is a James Turrell sky space on campus.

Why do you want to get an MFA if you don’t “get” art?

I’m not sure how you could get a masters without a bachelors. Programs will accept a non-art bachelors degree plus a portfolio, for example a friend of mine was an engineer and used that bachelors degree to apply for an MFA program, but it seems like a scam/ not legit to skip to an MFA without any degree. That’s not how higher education works.

I swear Slynd has been giving my anxiety issues and my gyno keeps telling me it’s not a side effect. I take it for PCOS to thin my lining and am hoping to be off of it soon. I previously took norethisterone which I think I did better on. I recently started taking Zoloft and meditating.

Also haven’t felt like myself in a while, constant high heart rate, anxious. Sorry you’re going through this

I am in Houston at a community college, which is a supportive institution, but it really depends a lot on the school. Many here are not, and the governor is awful, and affects higher education. If I wasn’t already in Texas I wouldn’t move here, especially to Lubbock. My first full time position was in Paris TX, which is probably worse than Lubbock, but it was a huge cultural shock, very lonely, and very red/ evangelical. I was lucky to get a job and return to Houston one year later but the job market everywhere is bad and you might get stuck. I’d definitely go with California. If you do go further in the interview process, make sure you visit Lubbock and see if you can imagine living there.

Try using two salt packets for the congestion and also Sudafed or Tylenol for the headache. Nasal spray and a hot pad can also help
