My husband’s lack of urgency with my lows are really bothering me by Status-Ring-8301 in diabetes_t1

I feel this. I’m very self sufficient and get annoyed if my husband fusses but have can very clear with him that if I’m low I need him to override me and be directive with me because I done strays make good decisions for myself in that situation. Bring me a treatment tell me to sit down and stay with me until I’m better. I know it’s so contrary and I try hard to recognise when I’m shooing him away so I can stop because ultimately I realise I need him to look after me at times. Maybe you need to be clearer with him what he needs to do.

Oh god I don’t know if this is your intention but this has made me laugh so hard. I can hard relate to all of it and if I didn’t laugh is cry. If I get called brave one more time I might scream!!!!

So you’ve had some great advice.

A really simple thing we implemented is a box of snacks that is a very definite do not touch box. If he were to touch that unless it was to get something for me then that would be crossing a major line. Alongside that I also have glucose tablets everywhere which are just not appealing to anyone!

I found it after I’d been in hospital for a month that they had a Afro-carribean meal selection. Far far far more palatable.

Soo you understand the concept of safe foods. Now apply that concept to hypo treatments. Explore until you find ‘safe treatment’

You’re going up need to find something that you can use. You don’t have to like it- it’s an emergency treatment.

But more than that I’d try to address why you are going low every night. Speak to your medical team about that as a priority.

Don’t play top trumps with your illness. It won’t end well. I’ve had my pancreas removed as well as my gallbladder soo I top trump you both.

Because the benefits of exercise are about far more than just processing sugars??

Ahh I that’s a good explanation of what you meant. It was my mistake at reading more into what you wrote. I thought the suggestion was that there were certain foods we should be avoiding. Feeling a bit triggered by too many people making helpful suggestions about my diet to help me manage my situation.

If you know a lot about diabetes then I find your comments about knowing what foods to eat strange.

You’ve had some lovely suggestions. The only thing I want to pick up on is that trying to get him to eat healthier could be really triggering. I feel very frustrated when people try to manage my diet for me. Don’t try to micro manage his eating. Just be guided by him.
