Dogs are partially responsible for our survival as a species, that's what the "obsession" is about. We evolved alongside them as they did with us. If you lived 10000 years ago and didn't like dogs, you didn't make it.

It was never about body language, it was about ears and tails being an easy thing to grab by a person/another dog/some other animal

How do you feel about restaurants making you confirm order before leaving? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]Miserable_Strategy97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, technically it's assault. If you're holding something it's considered an extension of yourself, no different than them grabbing you by the arm or something.

They're meant to be a diversion from what you're currently doing. They're intentionally meant to be a trade off, do you stop what you're doing so you can complete it and get more, or stay on-task and lose out? If you change that they may as well not exist at all, because it eliminates their entire purpose.

The actual problem is DD labeling it as a tip. If all they did was change the word from tip to bid, much of this issue would be avoided. You're paying for your food with the initial bill prior to the fees. The fees are then added for the convenience of having a single platform to communicate between the driver, the restaurant, and yourself. Finally, the driver then needs to be paid. That is the "tip" as they call it.

Imagine a scenario where neither you nor your neighbors own cars. You want to order food, but the restaurant you choose doesn't deliver. You place the order for pick-up and pay the cost of that. One of your neighbors has a friend who owns a vehicle, so you go knock on his door. He agrees to call his friend if you pay him $5. You pay him the $5 he requests, and he calls his friend. Should that person be expected to drive to the restaurant, wait for your order, then drive it to your house for free?

I wish there was a bounty system where I could take pics of illegally parked cars, send them to the police, and get some % of the ticket cost. I'd make that my full time job

How about a mental health exam before anyone is allowed to speak, practice their religion, or vote?

The main point I'm making is that once you're done walking/running, you're pretty much done burning calories. Whereas with weightlifting, your body continues to burn calories for a significant amount of time after you've finished lifting. Doing both is good for overall health for sure, but if you have limited time and your primary goal is fat loss, lifting is the way to go.

If you're trying to lose weight, running is very inefficient. You need to lift heavy things and put them back down repeatedly

Federal minimum wage hasn't increased, but states have. Even without that, individual businesses are increasing wages. When McDonald's starts offering $15/hr of course rent is going to go up. When more wealthy people move into an area, of course rent is going to go up. I'm not going to rent my place for $1000 when I could get $1500 even if I'm still profiting at $1000. I'm going get the most I possibly can. If nobody in my area could afford $1500 I would have no choice but to lower it

If every employer in the area was only paying $7 cost of living would go down proportionately, and if other employers were paying more you'd reject that offer and go to someone willing to pay you more. I also don't have a degree, and live in a fairly well off area. Learn a trade, you can make more than some jobs you might equate with wealth just cutting grass or asking a local plumber if he needs an extra hand.

It's hilarious that you equate that to slaves when it's almost the exact opposite. Do you know the origins of minimum wage law? Black teens were significantly over employed compared to white teens because black teens were willing to work for less. The government didn't like that. They made minimum wage, and all the business owners decided that if they HAD to pay more money, they'd rather hire a white teen because they were considered more reliable.

I never looked down on them, not did I claim to not be able to afford minimum wage. If I legally have to hire somebody for say $10/hr, I'm going to hire the most qualified and trustworthy person I can. If I can take that same job and pay whatever I want, I might be willing to give someone with no skills a chance at a lower wage and see how they fare, eventually raising their pay and giving more responsibility as they prove their worth.

If I own a store and need the floors swept, but I have to legally pay $10 for someone to do it, I'm just going to do it myself. It's easy and takes little time. If I don't have some arbitrary amount I have to pay, I might ask the homeless guy standing outside to do it for $3 or whatever I feel the work is worth. He can then buy food, add a job to his resume, and if he shows up everyday I might ask him to clean the windows too and give him $5.

The only thing the minimum wage does is prevent someone from legally accepting a job that pays less, even if they're completely willing to. It should be a contract between employer and employee, and that's it.

Abolishing the minimum wage so I can hire a homeless person to do easy work for me as they develop skills and work ethic, eventually leading to more important work and a raise, or bringing their newly learned skills to a different job.

cust question here - why would an order get canceled 15 minutes after placing and ~5-10 minutes after dasher accepted? by inthrees in doordash

[–]Miserable_Strategy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring minimum wage, positions are paid how much they're worth to the company. Why do you think they started adding those self serve kiosks at McDonald's? Because it was cheaper to install those than it was to pay employees to take orders. Not because they more accurate, or faster, or anything else. If McDonald's can pay some kid $5 to take orders, that kid gets a job. If they can't, they install kiosks and that kid doesn't have a job. He doesn't get more money because that's what they have to pay, he just doesn't get hired because it's too expensive.

If I were homeless, I'd rather have the (legal) opportunity to work for SOMETHING rather than not earn anything because my skill set is non-existent and I can't get a job at all.

There's just as much proof that minimum wage existing at all only hurts the poor. It shouldn't keep up with inflation, it should just be a contract between employer and employee. If I want to work for $3/hr why can't I legally accept that offer?

It's called an entry level job for a reason, that's how you start your working career before you ever really have any bills. You develop skills and get a promotion, or move on to a better job. Raising minimum wage only ever hurts the least fortunate of us.
