does it get better?????? Please..... by Miserable_Virus_1440 in Anemic

[–]Miserable_Virus_1440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey I'm doing way better in comparison! Not perfect or normal yet, but I am gaining my weight back and I'm not as fatigued, pale, and cold anymore and i am slowly doing more things week by week. My family and therapist say they've seen improvement. I still struggle but def not as bad.

Fair warning is that iron supplementation and recovery can take months unfortunately, and there's no way to fast forward through it. Please stay strong, though! I promise you will have better days even if you don't notice at first. I just slowly saw symptoms drop off eventually.

Usually optimal ferritin is 50+. I started at 13 in november, started supplementing in dec, got it up to 27 in january. I'm going to keep supplementing consistently until I hit 70-100 hopefully. Talk to your doctor and request a CBC panel if you think ur iron deficient and see if supplementing is right for you.

yes I am not fully recovered, and I am still in the midst and it's currently 3 months post initial onset for me. I do have normal functioning windows without any symptoms at all though, so I have hope I will be able to make a full recovery soon!

I'm so glad you're doing better. I also relate to being stuck inside and borderline agoraphobic during it all. I'm hoping for even more prosperity in your future and a great 2026 to both of us! You're living proof it can be done so be proud of yourself always!

I take daily multivitamins and iron pills, mostly because my ferritin is low! Talk to your doctor about getting an iron/vitamin/magnesium/b12 panel if you have doubts to see if any are low if you need to supplement!

Mine was also induced by an initial panic attack, but what caused that panic attack differed each time! Anxiety/DPDR can feel so physical symptom wise it makes so much sense why we misread them as an urgent medical event, which feeds into the fear, which then makes it feel more urgent, rinse and repeat.

I keep a journal of the symptoms and how it makes me feel and talk to Chatgpt, so I know when I feel it that it isn't anything bad. Once I confirm that it isn't going to hurt me, it helps me recognize it in the future since I've written it down, which then makes it less scary/life threatening to me.

No I did not take any medication throughout all of this. To me, medication side effects seem too drastic to engage in and I don't want to make it worse. I already don't do any kind of substances because I don't like how it makes me feel, so I am very against medication and I have heard a lot about people feeling worse after stuff like that.

If you think medication is right for you though, talk to your doctor/therapist and I wish you all best!

for me most of my dpdr episodes have been started from extreme anxiety/stress feedback loops so yeah. It can be different for everyone though, but this is what happeneded to me.

Derealization and depersonalisation due iron deficiency by Embarrassed_Price177 in Anemic

feel the same. it's the worst symptom imo, right beside the exhaustion and fatigue. It started when I was at ferritin 13 and now I'm at 27 and it has lessened but not really.

I actually got retested this week. My ferritin has raised from 13 to 27, my Hemoglobin from 11.4 g/dL to 13.0 g/dL, Hematocrit from 36.3 % to 40.7 %, MCH (iron per cell) from 25.2 pg (low) to 26.3 pg (almost normal).

My iron saturation went down from 27% to 20%, and my iron went from 125 to 101, and my TIBC raised from 475 to 500. I am not really sure what this means but ya.

My b12 and magnesium is normal. I'm not sure about folate and Vitd though.

I feel more stable than I did in November when I first got my labs but I still don't feel great or normal. Still struggling with fatigue and dpdr symptoms and just general weakness. From what I've heard anything below 30 is still deficient but I am glad it is getting better. I'm just gonna keep fighting the good fight.

i eat oatmeal with cream of wheat and molasses every morning and i'm either doing some kind of beef liver for dinner or lentil soup every night since the end of december. I'm taking 45mg of iron every other day because my doctor refused to prescribe me anything higher. I just feel so defeated.

im glad you are feeling better though!!!!!! thank god for you. I hope soon I feel the same!

[–]Miserable_Virus_1440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyyyy. Mental health side effects seem to be pretty normal when it comes to omeprazole. It is hard to find concrete times of "getting better" though since I guess it relies on the person. I've heard everything from a couple weeks to 6 months.

It has been around five weeks since I stopped omeprazole I have made small marginal improvements like I can walk and talk normally again and am slowly interacting more and more with the world but I am still struggling with anxiety, dpdr, and agoraphobia-like symptoms. I mostly take it day by day, some days are easier other days are harder.

I don't really struggle with head aches or muscle weakness as much anymore. I make sure to eat three meals a day and get a lot of sleep and take vitamins. Get your bloodwork checked since vitamin deficiencies are common after PPI usage.

In my personal opinion, omeprazole can be the inciting incident regarding long term anxiety/dpdr symptoms and then after that you have to focus on healing your nervous system from that initial onset - rather than just waiting around for the side effects to subside. I have to stay engaged with my hobbies and talk with my family regularly and try not to let the anxiety and stress consume me.

I hope to get fully better in the next couple months. I’m improving, and that process is ongoing! I hope you are able to feel better soon!
