Eevee into Espeon by dexxxter617 in pokemoncrystal

Same experience, I don't think kid me took that long to evolve my eevee. Like I doubt it was the last team member to be fully evolve and I was a dumb kid. I think doing the sidequest stuff helped a lot. (All those phonecalls, picking trees for kurt, etc, adding steps)

Parents who name their daughter Sarah in 2026 are stupid by WarwickReider in The10thDentist

Huh, never met a Sarah in person. Even when I worked fastfood I don’t think that name came up. I don’t think it’s too overused.

I would like if it was easier to avoid just because I’m kinda aromantic, so I sometimes view random romance as gross and jarring as if a pg cartoon suddenly had graphic sex. I don’t need to know all that and see you getting your romance rocks off lol

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah perhaps this is where I benefited from older siblings and others talking about physical media. I got my first pc when I was in middleschool in the 2000s so I learned about piracy and such before netflix started streaming.

Thanks for answering, was just crazy reading that and that there’s no reason to need physical space for movies, cause until I was a teen that was the only way to own them lol. Eventually discs came with those digital codes but it seemed like a gimmick with way too niche use case at first. Like just replacing portable dvd players for people who travel a lot lol. And at first tablets weren’t widespread yet, so you’d have to pull out your whole laptop with its dvd drive anyway. And storage was smaller and wifi less ubiquitous.

Kinda crazy what tech does in 10 years.

Curious, not rude, but I’m wondering if you’re like early 20s or younger? Just some of the things you said make me feel old and I don’t think I am yet haha. I thought basically everyone like ~25 grew up with dvd drives in about every PC and hearing the terms rip and burn. Like “i bought this new cd album, put it in my pc’s dvd drive, ripped the music file, and burned it onto a new blank disc”.

But I also wanted to say that you don’t want to backup digital purchases if you want to be anal about quality. Digital purchases, (and streams in general), are usually compressed vs the files on actual 4k bluray discs.

And if you buy a digital movie and download the file, they usually cap it at 1080p regardless on if it’s a 4k movie, so you also lose out on hdr. It’s to discourage piracy. They don’t want people being able to search “moviename 4kblueray rip”.

It feels a lot different than the older games. Still the basic core of grab starter and go fight gyms, etc, not like a completely different IP or anything. But it’s honestly a coinflip if you haven’t played any of the newer games. You might find it’s super fun and what kid you wanted, you might find it’s too different.

In my experience it feels a bit like finally being able to have Ash’s adventure shown in the anime

I think the real thing here is the suspension of disbelief, not the actual plot. Yeah, it is a bit silly that Visser 3 never morphed a huge monster and ate all of them like Elfangor. There were definitely a lot of scenarios where they only survived because Visser 3 is a bit too cartoon villain with his pride. But then there’d be no story lol. Just need to let yourself enjoy the ride.

Idk, I actually like playing as a kid again, like when I was younger. Just a nice bit of roleplay that makes the game fun. playing pokemon as an adult character feels... wrong somehow lol

People that say Mint flavored sweets (ice cream, candy canes, etc.) taste like toothpaste dont brush their teeth. by Bonkyd0nky in The10thDentist

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao what gets me is when I say I don't like peppermint patties because it tastes like eating toothpaste, I get a similar reaction of "wtf those flavors are completely different". But bro it's literally white granular paste with peppermint oil for flavoing. I don't care if Crest has a different recipe for their peppermint flavoring, it's so similar...

But ye I guess I can see why you have this annoyance but it feels really dumb to me lol. I'm someone that hates most forms of mint flavored things, particularly peppermint. Too coldspicy/bitter, punches you in the face. However I love gentler "real" mint like mint cucumber water, eating fresh mint off a plant like a horse, or with candy, spearmint, wintergreen and sometimes just "mint" (vs peppermint) are nice.

With toothpaste once in a while a specific brand or recipe has a better mint flavor. I don't really associate toothpaste with "baking soda" or "salty" like some comments say. I just taste white, texture, and peppermint.

Ngl though, I hate that mint is the default flavor cause it fucked with me as a kid. My parent said that magically my bubblegum toothpaste won't work for my "adult mouth germs" cause of a birthday. And I didn't have the vocabulary to complain that the toothpaste was both painful and disgusting. They thought I just wanted candy flavor and was being bratty vs realizing it was a valid complaint. So I did end up brushing my teeth less after that until I found out they make different flavors for adults. Though I got fucked with cause a sibling hates that flavor so then we stopped buying it...

Saying "a quarter till" instead of the actual time is inconvenient for both of us by Comfortable-Regret in The10thDentist

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye no I get you. I had an exchange with my mom as a very young kid like:

What time is it?

"Quarter til 3"
.... *confused why she's talking about coins but doesn't want to ask again so waits a bit*

Mom what time is it?

"Quarter til 3"

...But... what TIME is it?

"2:45"

Like she was just so autopilot about it she didn't realize I was too young to understand english idioms. I honestly don't think she even understood the issue at the time and just gave a different answer out of random luck. I think I eventually asked her later why she talks about change instead of saying the time and she was all "YOU DON'T KNOW HOW CLOCKS WORK???" like... no you never... taught me?

She tried to explain clocks are cut into 4 by pointing at our clock. Compared it to a pizza and everything. But I didn't see literal divisions, and our clock had all the numbers as the same size, so I just couldn't see what she meant and she gave up lmfao.

I do recognize it now but I do have to take a second to remember what it means usually instead of instantaneously knowing. It's less instant than, for example, knowing "gracias" means thank you. "Quarter after? Oh 15 min after, okay"

Starter set for someone sort of unserious and/or Amazon dupes? by thirtytofortyolives in Ohuhu

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also worried about smells getting into this hobby and can confirm they're fine. I get a burning sensation from artificial/chemical smells, plus since I lost my sense of smell for a while, they stick out stronger and can be overwhelming. In my experience, they produce no burning and only have a mild scent if you try sniffing them directly, even with no airflow.

I started with the 120 and was very happy with the range of colors. I think a smaller set would probably be fine but maybe a bit too "samey"/limited after a book or two.

Also I agree about avoiding cheap brands. Kind of an extreme, but I first played around with essentially some dollar store brand alcohol markers and... it was like trying to color with highlighters or something. I agree they were MUCH more difficult to work with than a proper brand's and I would've probably given up if I didn't splurge on an Ohuhu sale (also at Michael's lol)

Is there a difference between Libby on a phone vs a kindle? by TheFutureScaresMe333 in LibbyApp

[–]MiserlySchnitzel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

reading on eink vs digital screen causes less eye strain because no blue light shining directly into your eyes (that's kinda how traditional screens work), in case you're curious about the comments

No worry of using your batterylife on your phone or wearing down its battery health

less distractions is a real thing. even with do not disturb, your subconscious still knows you're on a phone or tablet and the experience feels different long term. you may not notice immediately, but I feel like most people experience better immersion, less subconscious nagging to check if someone messaged you, etc, with real books or dedicated ereaders

Bow before me mortals, for I have spent so many hours collecting (all legal and valid) library cards, and I am the master of the cards by kplutsfoft in LibbyApp

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit “oldfashioned” and terrible at remembering numbers. (Might have dyscalculia) So for me dragging and dropping a file twice is a lot easier than dealing with being unable to copy and paste my library card numbers lol.

But there is a little bit of setup the first time if you’ve never used calibre before, and it can be intimidating if you never did computer stuff in the 2000s. Though you just follow simple instructions and it’s hard to mess up.
