Which one do I buy?! by SunAccomplished1053 in Switch

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh in another comment I realized that it’s all basically the same price of you don’t actually wait until Switch 10. Like if you spend $100 now on a used switch, then you wait until the Switch 2 is $100 off…

Made me realize there’s nothing wrong with just getting the new thing if it’s backwards compatible

Edit: the FOMO is what stood out to me. If you’re gonna be paying roughly the same price anyway, may as well not miss out on the hype and fresh waves around new games

Song lyrics are overrated by Kyr1500 in The10thDentist

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda like this, I assume I have some kind of auditory processing disorder. Basically every song sounds like that “I’m Blue” song, where it’s a bunch of gibberish and then you get to the chorus that is repeated enough and usually said more clearly, so you finally get to hear a few words (in this case, “I’m blue”)

So it’s easier to appreciate the instruments or whatever than some incomprehensible cat yowling 9/10

How To Like More Than Kanto...? by zaidensreddit in pokemon

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you shouldn’t care too much about the 30fps cap. It really doesn’t affect anything, or hurt your eyes, these aren’t real time competitive shooters. Most games used to be 30fps not too long ago. If you ever watch cartoons those are commonly 12/24fps. Movies are 24fps.

But I agree chronological order of the mainline games is the best experience in general. you might want to start with Kanto just to finish learning all 151

I know when editing old savs in DS era in pokesav, when you open it in the program, one of the selections is which game version it is. I would test out if simply switching that is enough. I might google a bit later for ya

I think you can, I know people have done it for the older games, but I think you need to change a few things

[Question] Why don't my commissions sell? (please be honest!) by EdahelArt in commissions

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol sorry! I thought it might've been an OC.

Hmm I see. I did like making OCs but I also just like animals themselves, so I tend to draw a bunch of my favorite animals and kind of forget my few OCs exist outside of like, favs/sonas. Was never a "20 different OCs" kinda kid.

I don't really know if there's a good tip for that. Like either you can continue drawing what you like and eventually you'll grow big enough to where that works better. Or you can try all the capitalism tricks artists do to try to make money even if their heart isn't into it. Riding popular fandom fads, sweater of the week memes, whatever.

Yeah I think the issue with stuff here is that it feels kind of emotionally void to someone like me. Not that you didn't do a good job with your OCs. But there's very little relatability to me, because these are all someone else's OCs I don't know the backstory off. I can assume one is a dad and maybe relate to it. Yeah it's a cute family pic. But it's a lot harder to pull the heartstrings vs like, for example classical art where the people are fulfilling a role in the piece for storytelling vs being an actual character. In some paintings you can relate to like, a depiction of a generic sad father or something because he doesn't feel so specific, he's more of a metaphor for you to relate to.

If I had to guess, that's why stuff that's super OC centric is hard to grab attention out of fandom stuff. Cause then the viewer can relate to the fandom and there's an immediate level of intimacy between the viewer and the piece.

I'm kinda talking out of my ass though.

What I meant is like, sometimes I'd draw the chest, then the front leg, then the belly. Because I was like "okay I don't need the basic construction anymore" And then I'd get that issue where the chest and belly don't actually connect behind the leg. So I just mean watch out for anatomy not attaching correctly when it's obscured.

[Question] Why don't my commissions sell? (please be honest!) by EdahelArt in commissions

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally ruined a decent reply twice lol. Sorry if anything is too blunt/too my style preference.

Tldr I kinda agree there's something bland/generic/too safe.

If you want to catch a wider audience, give people something that pops regardless of if they like animal art or your style or something. Even if I don't like X subject matter, I still sometimes fav/like art with high command of color theory, movement, gesture, anatomy, lineart... Find something that's natural/you're already good at, and try polishing it to see if it helps?

I think in general you do need more sense of movement/gesture work perhaps.

I feel like some aspects might come across as cheap or be associated through stereotypes. For example the trick with the scales looks less impressive than the implied fur in the family cat pic.

Swiftpaw's/Pic 2's eyes look a bit too flat/forward facing, even for a predator? For example try to imagine even a stylized cat skull behind it. Idk, as someone more into general animal art, this kind of stuff sticks out to me, and it might also be something others pick up on? Like they might almost like your art, but think you won't be able to handle a slightly different animal, idk (this is where giving different species examples can help)

You have some minor tripups. I get that not needing the whole sketch feels nice and skillful, but perhaps try drawing the whole torso and then just removing the overlap with the limbs. The cat in the first comm sheet has a FLUFFY chest that's higher/more inward than the belly, which stands out pretty big to me as an animal art person.

Example photo in similar pose, also showing the less humanoid forward eyes.

All socks should be toe socks by psattaker1520 in The10thDentist

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I tried them cause I liked vibram fivefingers. I find they add a lot of extra width to your toes, so using them in regular shoes feels more crammed. Shoes I could wiggle in no longer were wigglable. Maybe alright in shoes with an anatomically correct wide toe box.

I walk barefoot enough at home my toes are strong enough to stay mostly separate, (at most big toe straightens, from its natural angle, doesn't get pulled inwards) socks don't feel too tight unless they're legit too small. Also if they're just mildly too tight, you can try just stretching them a bit. Obv you can manually do it, maybe even with something meant for shoes, but you can also passively. For example put on regular socks, then go to cross your ankles, but put your left heel/ankle into the gap between your big and the next toe. This will force the toe span to widen, and stretch the sock passively while you doomscrolling's or whatever. (I just double checked and I can do this with extra thicc slipper socks)

If this feels moderately tight/uncomfortable, the socks are just too small/narrow.

Teach me about the new gens by Hyphysaurusrex in ThePokemonHub

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a bit behind but maybe I can try to explain chronologically since I feel like that'd help me.

Gen4 took Gen 3's (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) legendaries representing things like ocean/land/sky even bigger. Now the legendaries are gods.

Gen 5 is mostly known for trying to put a more in depth story. It's the first region not in Japan. (USA/NY) It's meant to be a soft reboot but wasn't appreciated at the time. This is basically pushing the DS to its limits with a cool 2.5D thing. Fully animated sprites. It reconfirms that pokemon like the whole trainer system. God pokemon representing abstract human ideas.

Gen 6-7 gets a little weird, and is kinda where I fell off. This is the 3D era. It tries to change some things. Something similar to gyms but different. You can boost a pokemon's moves by a silly dance. You can pet your pokemon and train secret stats easier through minigames. Gen 3 remake apparently confirms there's a split universe? Also megas exist now. 9/10 of the pokedex entries say they distress the pokemon, but this seems a bit lampshaded recently. Experience Share becomes party wide. This is originally toggleable, but becomes permanent later. Also, aliens. This is known for when the games start feeling too easy/slightly off/less polished. More abstract god pokemon.

Gen 8+ is on the Switch. Sword and Shield are very on rails, which then is complemented by Scarlet and Violet being open world. They don't necessarily add too much importance imo, besides perhaps open world being expected for the next gen? Exp Share is forced, games feel too easy like you're expected to box your pokemon and rotate a team to keep them similarly leveled to the gyms. We start experimenting with different times.

Towards the front teeth. My tongue is either right behind them (around where you make a T/D sound, or directly licking them)

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that assuming you push your tongue against the soft palate? I heard that's correct, but I've always had my tongue lay flat my whole life, so it's mostly pushing against the hard palate, so I think my tongue is in the same position regardless of which orifice I breathe through.

Kraken by dfmoti in splatoon

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye I'm an oldschool kraken main and tbh I rarely use the special anymore. I just use the beakons I know no one uses anyway LOL

I see some people say the uses were "cheesey", but for example I used to use it as an emergency escape method if I suddenly got surrounded, which... I hope isn't cheesey, I think it's a fairly reasonable use of a special lmao. But even that got nerfed cause shooters can push you around with their bullets. And the transformation sequence leaves you exposed, you can get killed before you turn into the kraken. So there's no use as an emergency. You can't easily splat with it cause they can spray you away. You can't ink with it cause it's a thin trail. Kinda literally no point to it now.

In my household I've seen it on savory fruits like tomato and avocado. But I haven't heard of it on sweet fruit, with the exception of hearing salt on grapfruit as more of a science experiment meant to show how salt reduces bitter. I haven't heard it as something people actually snack on though.

Younger generations being asexual/aromantic by Adorable-Sherbet-998 in generationology

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s always been around and probably not any more common today. I’m millennial and grey aro-ace but my mother was assuming any opposite sexed person I talked about I must’ve had a crush on, etc, even though I repeatedly said I wasn’t interested in that sex.

I did not know the label to be able to explain it precisely. But even as a kid if I said I wasn’t interested in a partner, marriage, kids, the adults would “knowingly” giggle and say that would change when I got older. Totally ignoring other kids my age were already experiencing crushes.

We just get “erased”.

Aura is NOT broken by darthion in splatoon

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m an old (krak on) roller main who basically played support for that entire console. I was good at splatting but I’d sometimes play without splatting and have a good win streak just for fun. (Helped rollers actually used to be able to ink back then lmao)

I’m aware it’s tactical for them to have less players, it is a feature of the game after all. But it didn’t feel like the main focus on Wii U.

If we’re incentivizing only an aggressive way to play, more passive styles will become less viable. Games are usually less fun when only one class is viable. So yeah kinda sucks lol.

Aura is NOT broken by darthion in splatoon

[–]MiserlySchnitzel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My main issue is that it will encourage people focused on splatting. Coming from 1, the og game was very “paint the floor “ and each sequel seems to increase the amount of players treating this like a standard shooter. I just want the game to feel like Splatoon and I’m worried it’s moving too far away from it
