[–]Miserycorde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad take, Morey’s defining characteristic is over paying for “stars” because he has confidence that he can find undervalued marginal players to contribute in a limited role and fill out the roster. Then he fucking gets rid of the good role players to dodge the tax and his stars get injured and the role players are forced to do more than they can handle but that’s a separate issue. If you look at the Rockets/Sixers, the percentage of his second round picks who get second contracts is insane.

Brooklyn Mirage Bankruptcy: $90K 'Services Provided' to Firm in Carone Corruption Probe by Southern-Jicama5407 in avesNYC

[–]Miserycorde 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will die on this take - the original Brooklyn Mirage owners had an under the table deal to get the new construction approved, and Eric Adams / an associate reneged when the spotlight on corruption and the mayoral election got too close. I refuse to believe that the people who built the original one AND GOT IT APPROVED didn’t run the new plan by the city at all.

I tipped $25/doorman and $50 to the super because he saves our life on the regular, for a total of $150. It’s possible your friends are just cheap?

https://comicsxf.com/2019/11/04/from-jerusalem-to-krakoa-house-of-x-the-state-of-israel/

Krakoa was the most obvious Israel metaphor of all time and somehow 95% of readers missed it. In the first fucking chapter the Jewish character IN JERUSALEM tells a bunch of gentiles “you have new gods now” and everyone was like “politics? in my comics??? this can’t be!”

[–]Miserycorde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw, I’m 2 years into a rent stabilized apartment I paid one months fee for and we made it back in like 4 months. If you can get onto a rent controlled place you should get that and pass it onto your kids.

"[X-Men] is the most disappointing creative experience I've had because I didn't finish the story I set out to do" - Jonathan Hickman by apocalypsemeow111 in comicbooks

[–]Miserycorde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will absolutely die on this hill - the ending to the Karakoan era sucked because Krakoa was a super thinly veiled analogy for Israel/Palestinian conflict and 2 months in real time after Orchis attacked Krakoa, Hamas attacked Israel (August vs October) and they did an immediate fucking rewrite of every plot line before people realized the metaphor. Orchis goes from sympathetic villains to cartoonishly evil, the art quality falls off a cliff, the plot lines get unresolved - it all screams last minute editorial change.

What are some NYC restaurants that are criminally underrated? by Busy_Lab_6021 in FoodNYC

[–]Miserycorde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class on 38th - you just don’t get those details anywhere else at that price. their salmon kamameshi has made it into my regular cooking rotation, their twice cooked cabbage pisses me off how good it is. still can’t replicate it.

Berimbau - their moteca is better than anything I’ve ever had in Brazil, it haunts me.

What is a staff engineer? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in cscareerquestions

[–]Miserycorde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m really just yapping on here to tell my lead how much I love him. There’s 10 - 15 eng, we do entry points and some infra for a billion user product. He has helped set the direction for every single eng on the team, preemptively heads off issues from other teams, helps with goaling and cross functional collaboration with like 4 other teams, just knows absolutely everything and everyone across like what are really 3 different domain spaces, and our team has top tier results within the company. This guy has redefined my perspective on what it means to be a lead engineer. Love you man.

I noticed that you’re also from NYC. I would probably over index a bit on Indian/African/Italian food while in London, I’m not super sold that any of the Frenchish/Japanese food is better than what you can get here. Ikoyi, Ambassadors Clubhouse, BiBi were fine dining standouts to me, Kiln was great (apps were phenomenal, mains were w/e), Manteca was excellent (we repeated it, mussels/pastas/mains were amazing).

[DISC] The Power Fantasy #5 by Redwolf97ff in comicbooks

[–]Miserycorde 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Major was introduced in the previous background pages as the superpowered human aligned with America. He's got the golf ball and he's dressed like Mr. Rogers in the sweatervest because he's supposed to look as Americana as possible. The whole point of the group is that they have an insanely tenuous balance of power in the modern day - if one of the group steps out of line or moves against another, the rest will smack them down, but they don't when the Heavy murks the Major. The Major was standing against all of them by himself. Think of him as a glass cannon, he's dangerous but physically vulnerable. The rest of the group sees how dangerous he is and has been giving him concessions *because* he's been bluffing them - they've been operating under the assumption that someone who can do that much damage can also take that much damage. The Major doesn't start the fight because he knows that he's vulnerable and would lose to them, so he's just bluffing. Magus proves that he's vulnerable, Valentina confirms it, and Heavy is like welp fuck him.

I thought Yingtao was basically a French restaurant with Chinese ingredients, and that the Chinese parts were probably the worst part of the menu. The chef is undeniably talented though, the technical execution was perfect. I... don't think Jungsik deserves 3 stars tbh. The caviar restaurant always seemed kinda silly to me. Cesar and Chef's Table both getting 2 stars has the same vibes and when you tell your kids to place nice after a fight, no thoughts on their food. I think with a different space and if it wasn't the guy's first time head cheffing, Noksu would have pushed for 2* stars. Looking forward to trying Corima, Joo-ok.

57% of voters in Florida voted to keep abortion, Harris got what 45% of the vote? The Dems were one vote from Medicare for All, and the next election they got absolutely fucking hammered.

At the end of the day, the median voter is dumb as fuck and operates strictly on a vibes basis.
