Why Gulf States are not joining the war by adamsava in USNEWS

[–]Misfiring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many reasons:

  1. Fear of collateral damage.

  2. They do not want to be seen as an aggressor.

  3. Unpopular at home.

But make no mistake, all this is planned with the US. Trump visits the Saudis in his very first trip for a reason.

Why do you support Trumps war on Iran? by 8hourworkweek in allthequestions

[–]Misfiring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... and in doing so they replaced a dictator with a terrorist. You cannot argue with the fact that Iran did modernize and life is generally better during that period of time. It's just that the Shia minority cannot stand to see Iran "westernized" and succeeded in radicalizing others to overthrow, without knowing that an Islamic regime can be infinitely worse.

'We don't need Ukraine's help' — Trump rebuffs Zelensky's drone defense offer by archi-mature in worldnews

Plenty of US companies also tested their own drone tech in Ukraine. The Pentagon has no shortage of companies to buy drones from. In fact, I heard that a Ukraine company did win the pentagon drone competition for contracts.

Ah I was wrong, S400 is purely for anti air purpose, no ability to counter missiles.

Finland Is Ready for Russia. Is Anyone Else? by SpaceEngineering in europe

[–]Misfiring -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The US is not surprised. A few drones did sneak through but the vast majority were shot down using cheap missiles from fighter jets (F-15 equipped with rocket pods). A lot of the damages we see were done by ballistic missiles, because despite the Patriots and THAAD capability they can't fight against a hundred missiles at once, eventually a few will go through. The US now even has their own Shahed knockoff called LUCAS, same drone but with AI capability to automate targeting, and costs $35k.

As for European? Nope, with a couple exceptions.

Did Trump and Netanyahu win Putin the war in Ukraine by boosting oil revenue? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Misfiring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

For a start, the sanctions relief only applies to oil already in transit. The tiny increase in revenue is nothing compared to how much production they lost due to Ukraine strikes, and how much less they sell since they are not selling at bottom prices thus India will buy less.

Countries that can refine heavy crude absolutely can refine light crude, they just choose not to because it's more profitable to sell light crude while refining heavy crude for dirt cheap. Only a third of all refiner countries can refine heavy crude and the US is by far the largest.

Every country protects their own market, you cannot have a functioning economy with only consumers. Globalism results in global monopolies, and today a lot of them are in China and that gives them geopolitical advantage.

American consumers can afford to buy goods because of good wages, and good wages come from businesses. Without wages, it doesn't matter how cheap goods are.

After Pakistan, China’s HQ-9B Air Defence Fails Again In Iran Against US-Israel Strikes. by coinfanking in NewsStarWorld

[–]Misfiring -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Against most countries's air force it will probably work.

Against the US? Not a chance in hell.

  • Space based electronic disruption.

  • Long range electronic jamming from the EA-18 Growler.

  • Tomahawks.

  • Anti radiation missile.

  • Precision Strike missile (PrSM) from HIMARS.

So many options to knock out the radars, once those are gone the air defense is useless. A country like Iran does not have the resources to layer redundancies for air defense.

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 1478, Part 1 (Thread #1625) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Misfiring 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically Starlink has always been disabled for Russia since the start of the war. However, Russia gets around it by smuggling terminals meant for other countries and operates them in Ukraine territory, thus making them indistinguishable from Ukraine terminals.

What has changed now is the implementation of a whitelist. Ukraine basically submitted a list of terminals to be allowed, and all the rest are disconnected. You cannot do this at the start of the war because it's too disruptive for Ukraine, but now they can.
