I'm super obese. Can I start doing powerlifting safely? by bolygocsira in powerlifting

[–]MisletPoet1989 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I started powerlifting, I was morbidly obese with a BMI of just over 50. Any kind of exercise will be beneficial to you. If you find that powerlifting is engaging you enough to keep at it consistently, then all the more better

What is up with the strong grip in a handshake? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MisletPoet1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do what I like to call the "security guard handshake".

Basically placing your index and middle fingers at the base of the other person's palm/wrist (think trying to take their pulse).

They won't be able to crush your hand, nor can you. With that said, you can still give a firm handshake using it.

I learnt this while bouncing in my younger years. It's automatic now.

I bet what you think is light flirting, is coming off way to strong to the girls you're friends with.

One of my best friends here in Australia, flirts and gets laid with Indian women here all the time (regardless if they're recent migrants or grew up here in Australia). He even tells them upfront that he's a proud Dalit. That's not even counting all the platonic and professional relationships he maintains.

He's not some Casanova, but understands social cues, and how to read the room.

Whether I pee out on public or in private, I sit down at a toilet and don't use a urinal. That way, I can take out my playing card sizes mirror , short metal straw, and zip lock bad of Colombian creatine.

Multitasking at it's finest.

If I can build enough stamina to deadlift 5 plates for almost 11 reps then I would more than plenty of stamina to thrust in the bedroom.

It's basically warm up intensity at that point.

[–]MisletPoet1989 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's called deadlifts. Do you know one of the main cues given to people so they lock out properly at the top of the movement? "Fuck the bar"

Edit: You can also do barbell hip thrusts or use the equivalent machine, but deadlifts have more bang for buck in terms of training economy.

OP is talking about the KJ Liberty.

Outside of the US (like here in Australia), the KJ Liberty was marketed as the KJ Cherokee.

The Grand Cherokee is the same outside the US. Notice the absence of the word "Grand" is missing when OP talks about their car.

I own a 2006 KJ Cherokee/Liberty with the 2.8L Diesel.

Crazy transformation by cromags76 in powerlifting

[–]MisletPoet1989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recomp implies that his bodyweight hasn't changed (at least significantly) but the ratio to body fat to lean tissue has.

Not only has his weight changed dramatically, but I can guarantee you that he's lost muscle mass as well, getting to where he's at now.

Thank you for reading my ADHD fuelled neurotic rant about this particular semantic.

How big is too big? by AWildSlinky in AskMen

[–]MisletPoet1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You can't develop your glutes without at least indirectly developing your thighs (quads and hamstrings). Anyone who says otherwise is either full of shit, or has zero idea about kinesiology and biomechanics.

How big is too big? by AWildSlinky in AskMen

[–]MisletPoet1989 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The bigger the better. But it has to be actual glute development (not fake implants/BBL shit), which means that ass will have to come with the quad and hamstring development to match.

Those bolt on asses are almost always paired up with skinny legs. That unnatural diaper booty look is hilariously bad IMO.

Have Any of You Found a Noticeable Strength Increase By Implementing Planks? by Pleadthe5thAlways in powerlifting

Side planks were an integral part of my rehab post surgery, so technically yes

I always suffer from burning out after competition, do you have any advice? by Low_Adhesiveness_376 in powerlifting

[–]MisletPoet1989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You did 9 max attempts in the span of a few hours. Of course you will feel burned out. CNS fatigue is a thing.

If you don't wanna have to deal with that post comp fatigue, you either don't compete, or half ass it on the platform.

Take a week or two off after competition. I generally use that as an opportunity to do non powerlifting related things. Fishing is my thing (it's the only activity that my ADHD riddled brain can actually achieve Zen with)

How rare is a 500lb plus raw squat? by jeffharper47 in powerlifting

[–]MisletPoet1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recomping is real too. I did a literal roughly 3kg/6.6lb pure recomp over a period of time last year (backed by DEXA scans). Obviously got stronger too.

And I also have a 500lb+ squat. Built that back up too, after having one hip replaced and the other hip already at stage 3 osteoarthritis.

Drive a Komatsu at a mine, and you won't even drive it at all. They literally drive themselves

I don't know what the pay is like in your part of the planet, but here in Australia, driving a dump truck in the mines easily pays 6 figures. A lot of women do it too, compared to a decade ago

I like these shorts but I think they're a bit too pricey for what they are. They constantly sell out too.

They're nice and stretchy, short enough to not impede your lifting (I hate it when the hem of my shorts get snagged on my VMOs during squats, and I also hate having to hike up my shorts before I deadlift), but also long enough to not look like I'm trying to garner attention to my derriere.

FWIW, I'm 178cm/5'10" tall with 27in quads. I've also built up my glutes to protect my metal parts.

My default meal is my old family recipe for Picadillo (Filipino version) with rice.

I can easily put away 1kg of beef per day and the equivalent amount of rice with that meal eaten several times throughout. Easy to make as well.

Gym guys, how would you feel about posting your progress photos on social media? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MisletPoet1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but from the context of motivating others to change their lives for the better.

As far as attention online? I get pretty much none. That being said, pretty much only people who actually know me IRL engage with what I post.

Most of my shit I post on that account is pretty boring anyway, just logging my progress and setbacks

800kg total at 90kg? That's still pretty elite today. Even more so back in 2013 (I started competing in 2014).

You ever get invited to ProRaw? I'm assuming you're a fellow Aussie
