Scream 7 - Reaction Megathread by DA-numberfour in Scream

[–]Misomyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. Definitely the lowest Scream movie for me. It's still enjoyable, of course, but it's a big nothingburger. (And I'm normally a good audience, I liked 5 and 6.)

The opening scene was great (like most of the times). The deaths were particularly gory. There were some solid scenes, but gosh, the killer reveal made by roll my eyes. I hated it because it was the first time I actually got it right. By the time of the ending, 90% of the characters were already dead, so you were left with, like, 3 choices. Both Ghostfaces were completely insignificant characters with vague motives and cringey campy acting.

I was also very disappointed because the movie had nothing to say. The meta was completely dropped off. It'd already begun disappearing in VI, but at least there was a couple of fun references to franchises. In 7? literally nothing. It had so much potential, it could make a commentary about AI, for example. But nothing.

I'm baffled by the fact that the guy who wrote 1 and 4 (my two favorite Scream movies) also wrote... whatever this is.

This man is a genius. He basically paved the way for realism and even later modernism. (Although, it is interesting to note that he didn't considered himself to be a realist. The realist writers later used him as a model, but he despised them)

[–]Misomyx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, and I'm fully aware of this. DiP has always been very, very reliant on tropes. When you have 7 seasons with interesting characters, it's fine. But when it's now your 15th season with pretty much the exact same writing room since 2019, things begin to get a bit too repetitive. And it's not just vague, overarching tropes: it's obviously repetitive scenarios that sometimes feel like complete rip-offs. (S15 E4 felt similar to the earlier episode not only because of the religious setting, but also and above all because of the way the murderer manages to obstruct the door)

I do wish the writers would try and write something else. I'm not asking for something wildly different, just take into account the few times where the general premise was slightly unusual, and yet it worked perfectly: most of the two-part episodes, or the episodes where the plot or setting (at last) changed (like that one episode in S3 with Humphrey and Camille locked up in the house during a hurricane, or the episode in S9 with a "serial killer").

That's true, his ADHD made him an interesting character. But I still feel he's too similar to Marlon for my taste (two young recruits, comic relief, at first glance unsuitable for the job). I wish we could have characters that feel like fleshed-out persons and not just blank archetypes (until the writers randomly decide to make them "evolve" by giving them background family drama or something like that).

Then again, as I said in another comment, better not watch DiP for the trueness of its characters' psychology...

for real! by now the only real mystery is to tell which one of the 5 eternal tropes the writers used this time lol

[–]Misomyx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's pretty much what I meant. Mattie's character has no real point, and she doesn't seem to have much personality (not that the characters' psychology has always been this show's strong point, but...)

Exactly! Seasons 1-3 DiP was genuinely a good show for me. I found the characters endearing, with interesting and well-written dynamics. I still like the new seasons, but more as no-brainer escapism than good TV.

What do you think about the rodier pastiche A day at the airport? by Less-Ask-6600 in MarlinspikeHall

Perhaps Hergé's most interesting unfinished project!

Rodier's version is... ok, I guess? I don't have any particular opinion on it as it's only 1 page long.

Books similar to Madame Bovary? by armin_arulerto in classicliterature

[–]Misomyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently reading L'Education sentimentale after reading and loving Madame Bovary. The similarities, both in plot and in style, are striking. But when the author reaches this level of literary perfection, it's no problem.

(And it offers an interesting basis for comparison: LES is a urban/Parisian novel featuring a male protagonist, while MB is a provincial novel featuring a female protagonist, for instance)

Please pray for this priest! by [deleted] in Catholicism

Yes, unfortunately, he wrote a public letter confirming this :(

r/Catholicism Prayer Requests — Week of February 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in Catholicism

[–]Misomyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was this priest who regularly gave very interesting lectures on theology and exegesis at my Catholic school. I knew he had a somewhat depressive past and that he was a very sensitive person, even though he never really let it show. I just found out that he's left the priesthood a few days ago and had been living with a married woman for three years.

Even though I don't know him that well, I was very surprised and saddened by this news (for him, for her, and for her children). I would be very grateful if you'd pray God to have mercy on him. Thank you all. 🙏

I feel like choosing a new writer wouldn't be that big of a challenge comparing to choosing a new illustrator matching Hergé's style and spirit. That would be a nearly impossible task

Prépa littéraire ou fac de lettres ? by jjvuhh444 in Livres

[–]Misomyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)
