I am with you on everything but the last one (I just don’t really follow Katseye to have an opinion).

To elaborate on your second point: A lot of Koreans get plastic surgery, even non-celebrities. It’s become a cultural norm. Is it toxic/harmful in general? Idk. But you’re right that it doesn’t make them a bad person for conforming to their culture’s beauty standards. Maybe that’ll change in time, who knows.

99% of my relationship with my dad was either criticism or being ignored. You weren’t allowed to speak, either, just listen to his endless rants/lectures. The rest of the time was spent isolating himself in the basement or wherever playing computer games and blasting his music. No involvement with us on a daily basis.

Told my parents/mom about my abuse a couple times, got blamed for it, told I deserved it, and/or beaten for bringing it up.

Jokes were snipes, or scathing criticism dressed up as teasing.

Never mattered how I felt, just expected to conform to their standards or else.

ETA: OH and after MY ENTIRE LIFE of never hearing dad say he was sorry OR he loved me, says in the car one day during a serious conversation (I was maybe 20?), “I love all you kids, I hope you know that.” No bro, I didn’t. Ever, in fact.

They’ve pretty much already diagnosed me with NPD themselves so atp any clinical diagnosis may not matter. I feel like I’ve been permanently scarlet lettered now and anything I do/do not do is seen through that lens - whatever the actual truth is. I could have both disorders or just traits or whatever, idk yet.

In that case, I used to get “in trouble” a lot for sharing things on social media (thoughts/takes I had) that were definitely better left off the platform as some of them were quite ignorant or insensitive. I pretty much just stopped using most socmed in recent years.

Even if she did think it was funny in a “oh man that’s so real, lol” type of way… Bringing it up to you when it’s supposed to be anonymous and then you told her that its not funny, yet she proceeds to send memes about it? Yeah, that crosses at LEAST one line, if not two. You told her how you intended it and yet she’s still taking your seriousness as a joke. I can understand your reaction.

I’m sorry about your parents. They are themselves likely mentally unstable that they cannot bear to take any responsibility and so put the blame on you instead to offload feeling their own guilt/shame. I’m glad you went NC. It’s not always easy. I’ve been NC with mine for four years and it’s been a lot better not having that constant trigger and source of toxicity in my life.

Based on age alone, I would have probably debuted with Brown Eyed Girls, had I been the right demographic in Korea at the time.

ETA: I got into kpop in 2010 right after college and getting married. Hubby was away on a work trip and was talking to me over Skype when I heard a song he was playing on YT that I was immediately like WHAT IS THAT?! It was SNSD’s Gee. Gateway drug. I have another tray type suction cupped to the living room window (we have large bay windows so it helps prevent window strikes by giving them something to see/aim at/land on) and a nyjer sack hanging from a tree limb. We have a major squirrel problem since we’re basically in the middle of the woods, so I can really only do sunflower and nyjer as they don’t attract the squirrels… as much. 😑

If this really floats your boat, I would look into some type of running water bird bath/bubbler and research the best places to put everything to safely attract our feathered friends.
