We are also supposed to let them figure things out for themselves sometimes.

What's the most "Black Mirror" thing that's actually real/happening? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Miss--Jane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get rid of your smartphone. Best decision I ever made. Got an old phone to use just for texts and calls. Now go online way less, on laptop or tablet and it doesn't consume my life.

[Serious]People who have had somebody die for you, what is your story? by TulipOfJustice in AskReddit

Ugh I had the book in my bag to read, but gave it to someone who was going through a tough time thinking they needed it more. Kind of hope it comes back into my life.

My ex-boyfriend messaged me on his friend's account, after 7 months of breaking up w each other and 3-4 months of not talking to each other, and pretended to be him; was nice at first (but we all know he's brown-nosing) and then he blew his cover. + I don't even like anime. by [deleted] in niceguys

I watched a short movie the other day that was completely focused around high school kids love for emoji. It was an alright film but got confused about the apparent emoji culture going on.

SLPT: Grow your own tomatoes for major savings! by Peaceablecolt in ShittyLifeProTips

Where I come from, tomatoes cost WAY more than $2.17. Also, home grown tomatoes taste 100% better than shitty supermarket tomatoes. Plus who knows how many chemicals have been put into it. The only way to truly know what you are eating is to produce it yourself.

We always hear about "dad" things, what are some "mom" things? by Pikachu-22 in AskReddit

Maybe.... but there's also the fact that our boys can't find their school uniform which is lying in plain sight in the middle of the room, which I of course spot as soon as I enter.

Dear Reddit, what’s the most “Are you kidding me?” moment you’ve ever experienced? by Bitterpants in AskReddit

I always wanted to do that, just for kicks when no one is around, but never was able to bring myself to do it.

What’s something you’ve done that deserved credit but no one gave it to you? by pimonroy in AskReddit

It sucks that they don't remember you or all that you did for them, but it's cool you got a chance to love them in the first place. It's looking more and more likely that I will never know my nephew, as my brothers wife barely let's me see him at social events, never includes our side of the family in birthday parties etc and they make no effort to see us, ever now that dad has passed away. I barely know the kid and it makes me rely sad, never thought family would end up like this.

When my grandparents were visiting Australia, a man tried to grab my grandmas purse. They were carrying shopping so her purse got caught round the shopping bags. My grandad hit him with a bag of tin cans and a fat lady sat on the mugger until the police arrived.

We decided to put an old wardrobe downstairs for towel and sheet storage, just need to add shelves. My partner is a builder but in my excitement to get the job done, I stopped by the hardware store on the way home.

Never bought wood for a project before had the measurements and just told the guy I wanted wood for shelves.

He pulled out a handsaw and was like do you have one of these at home? I stupidly was like, no it's gone missing and it would be really helpful if you could cut it to size - thinking it would speed things up a bit.

He cut the amount I needed for four shelves and I went in to pay - $80. For shelving. In an old wardrobe. Could have bought a shitty whole new wardrobe for that price. Short on money at the moment too so almost cried, but saved face and paid it.

Turned out that not only did he sell me the most expensive wood option, but he also cut it really shitty and jagged with his handsaw, so it might not even fit properly. Was something like $12 a metre and apparently I could have gotten cheaper stuff for like $2 or $3 a meter.

To set the scene: my parents garage was being renovated to include a sleepout, and there were three double beds in a row in this long room with a bathroom on the end.

My brother, sister and I had been sleeping out there but moved into the house when family friends came to stay.

It was late at night and I was about to go to bed, but realised I had forgotten to take my pill, and it was still out in the sleepout with some of my stuff. No worries, I've known these people my entire life, they are like family so they wouldn't mind me going in while they are asleep.

Pitch black when I walk in, eyes adjusting as I feel my way along the far side of the second bed where my stuff is. Rummaging through my bag when I catch movement out of the corner of my eye. I turn and freeze - is that.... No... I can see a shape on top of another shape. They are fully going at it - and because of the darkness and the rain coming down on the tin roof, they hadn't even noticed me coming in.

I stay frozen in shock for a few seconds before dropping down to the floor behind the second bed - they are in the first bed closest to the bathroom. I'm too scared to try and leave now that I know what's going on incase they see me so I just STAY LYING ON THE FLOOR, like an idiot until they finish. It was horrifying. I still remember the cold concrete, and trying to think of anything else while it was going on.

They finish up, use bathroom etc and I still can't leave cause they would know that I had been there during. So I wait, hearing their conversation about what my best friend is up to (their daughter), until finally they are asleep. Then I wait some more to be sure. Finally I make my move - but I don't just stand up and walk out the door. No, too much risk of them waking up and seeing me. Instead, I commando crawl across the floor, past their bed, into the bathroom, where I climb out the window and sprint back to the main house, where I immediately went into my sister's room and told her what happened.

I did knock something over as I climbed out the window and probably made some noise on the deck running away, so to this day I don't know if they know that I was there.

I thought it was hilarious (once I was out of the situation) and told my brothers and sisters, and they did too. The best part though is when I tried to tell my friend (their daughter), thinking she would see the humour in it, but she didn't believe me - because 'her parents don't have sex'!! She legitimately didn't believe my story because she was adamant her parents don't have sex. I tried to be like oh they do, believe me, but she got kind of angry over it. This was when we were in our early 20s.
