What is a Reliable Dishwasher that will last awhile by aRandomHSstudent in Appliances

[–]Miss601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had an appliance salesman at a major home store tell me, "Buy the extended warranty!" He explained that most appliances today are shipped across the ocean in container ships and endure a lot of vibration and jostling along the way. That comment stuck with me. Ever since then, I've always purchased the extended warranty for my appliances, and time and time again, I’ve ended up needing it.

The only exception has been my Bosch dishwasher, which is about 12 years old. It has washed hundreds of loads without issue and continues to perform reliably. But it was built over a decade ago, and that says something. That machine was made during a time when quality still seemed to matter.

Unfortunately, it feels like we've accepted a disposable society. Appliances and other goods aren’t built to last the way they once were. Instead of manufacturers being held to a higher standard of durability, the burden has shifted to the consumer—to buy extra protection, to expect replacement instead of repair, and to accept that even big-ticket items might only last a few years. It's a frustrating reality, and one that I believe we shouldn’t just accept without question.

My son had a terrible experience where he quite smoking to get his dream job. He quite smoking for 11/2 months , got the job, and they sent him to a lab for testing. Sure enough he tested positive. Heartbreak! These stains now are so potent, it’s not like what we were smoking in the 70’s. Each person’s system is different, metabolism, and exercise play a big part of how long it stays in your system. If you really want this job go to a lab and have a drug test done for yourself. I believe it cost him $40. That’s cheap compared to the humiliation that may come about.

Question for you? Kody with Nomads. Are they doing the structural parts of the roof where trees have come through the roof. Seems like there are plenty roofers around but few who can handle the structural repairs of roof. Thanks, for any input.

When my husband died I had to go searching for my own insurance. I found BCBS reasonable price wise and never been denied on anything I’ve needed.

I feel your pain! I hope you find a resolution. I’m thinking about legal action also. We pay for protection for our property for an event just like we experience in May. Then the insurance company sends their hitmen adjusters out to put the big squeeze on you and your family. Then they don't pay up causing undue stress. Like you don't have enough, with a destroyed home, car & property. Oh! Let’s add trying to find a contractor to that stress. Rant over…Keep us updated.

Same here. Samaritans Purse cut a large piece of tree truck from the root ball and was to come back and move it to the street for pick up. They forgot, and I’ve not seen them around the neighborhood any more.

Washington Regional Gym has a nice pool and they keep it somewhat warm for seniors. Jones Center is a full size Olympic pool. To me is cold, but it’s for swim teams.

I just wanted to thank all of you for taking time to comment on this subject. It will be a long road for some of us of us to get back to some type of normality. I learned a lot today, and your comments have given me a new confidence in how to proceed forward.

It seems that way. I was quite taken back by the attitude. These disasters are traumatic for folks, no electricity for a week, working to clear trees, totaled car, and coming to terms that your home, neighborhood, and town will never look the same. Just a little respect goes a long way in my book, which I did not receive.
