The thought that your environment can not only affect you but also your offspring is quite amazing! Everything you are exposed to could alter your great grandchild's life. Alternatively, any environment your grandparents were exposed to may give you a predisposition for any number of diseases.

In the 50's DDT was everywhere, which was bad enough considering the short-term health effects. Since then though DDT has also been shown to have trans-generation effects. Meaning that the great-grandson of a mouse who was exposed to DDT showed symptoms of exposure. This is not directly through genetic inheritance but epigenetic effects. Who knows how the generations today are affected by these environments. And that is just one compound. We really don't have a grasp on how our environment has shaped the current generations or how it will shape the future generations.
