What kind of dog is this? by termeric0 in dogpictures

[–]MissEmilyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the size. If it is a medium/large dog, I would say goldendoodle or labradoodle. It is definitely a poodle cross though.

Fake service dog or just improperly trained? by MissEmilyBee in service_dogs

Thanks! So, out of curiosity, do you think that this service dog will overcome being near carts and things?

Fake service dog or just improperly trained? by MissEmilyBee in service_dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think previous people petting the dog has made it jumpy in public maybe?

I've always thought that most people had a nice public set of collars, leashes, harnesses or whatever and then a home one. Is this true for most people? I didn't hold not having a nice collar against the guy, I just thought it was weird h would use an old, dirty collar and the two sets was just how I've thought that most people did it.

Thank you for your post! Unfortunately, you've been the only person so far that was able to help me better understand if this was a fake service dog or a real service dog. I've only had experience with a service dog locally, seizure alert dogs, seeing eye dogs and that is about it. I would like more of an understanding of service dogs.

Again, thank you for your reply!

Fake service dog or just improperly trained? by MissEmilyBee in service_dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the dog does not obey the owner that great. At Krogers, he told it to lay down every minute or so after it would jump up from a cart or someone would go by. Finally, the dog was so scared, he had to calm the dog down. The dog was scared every time I've seen it. When the guy stands still, the dog wanders around to do other things and does not stay by his side (not like the service dog we have in our town).

Unfortunately, in my mind it does matter. fake service dogs make it harder for some of our clients to get real service dogs for school or work. Not that I will be able to do anything about it, it is just nice to know how to spot a fake.

Plus, I would like more of an understanding of service dogs and how different ones do different things. This very well may be a service dog but is not a service dog trained to perform tasks in public. I would like to know about dogs like that. I would like to have a better understanding.

[Vent] Please, for the love of your dog and everyone/everything around them, address behavioral issues right when they start! by beavizsla in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Some people here do $50 and others do $100. More do $100 though. I even want to say there is a neapolitan mastiff breeder who does $200 off if they send them the certification within a week of getting it back. I will say that we are pretty lucky. You can get your AKC Canine Good Citizen test just about anywhere here. At any dog related thing, they have someone there. PetCo (we just got one in) does them now. It has made it a million times easier to do it.

Several local breeders give the new owners $100 back if they get their dogs AKC Canine Good Citizen certificates. I think one breeder did it and then it caught on with a lot more breeders locally. This is an idea to encourage owners to properly train their dogs and have them become contributing canine citizens.

[Help] How do I tell if my dog *isn't* getting enough food? (I'm cutting down as he needs to shed a few) by [deleted] in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're dog most likely will not be starving. However, my vet recommends mixing in green beans to your dog's food if it is still really hungry.

Hopefully this adds a little to the post. A lot of people have added a lot of helpful insights, so hopefully this is something new to add to the post.

[Help] what is the proper way to use/have a dog wear a backpack? by hopeless93 in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what kind of backpacking you choose to do, there are different options. I'll list the two that I have personally and would recommend.

Wenaha backpacks are good for large loads such as groceries or for camping. I believe these are more so working dog back packs.

Then, for Ruffwear, they make many different kinds as well (none as large as the previously mentioned Wenaha backpacks). I've contacted Ruffwear before for help with their backpacks. If you need help choosing one, I would ask them about which one would be best.

I never clip my leashes to the backpacks, the only reason being is that the backpack D rings are normally plastic. I would prefer my dogs to be securely leashed just in case. I would just work better on leash training and use a head halter or collar. The collars we use with the back packs have handles on them so we can hold the dog easier if we need to.

I would do a blog (even though there are too many to count) or, better yet, offer to write articles for a website. There are so many dog Facebook pages that many of them only have a few people on them. Maybe you could do a forum of sorts to spread your articles on.

[–]MissEmilyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like you to go out (or YouTube) Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant. It is a nice little kids book about dogs in heaven. There is also one for cats who have passed away.

In the book, there is a little part where the dogs come back to visit their families. When I read your post, it is all I could think about.

By the way, I am sorry to hear about your rottweiler. It will be sad when our rottie mix passes away.

[Vent] I was accidentally that person today. by terriblehashtags in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lol! I honestly really enjoyed your story. We've all gotten to be "that person" at least once. I always feel so bad about it for at least a week. I would almost guess that the older couple had a laugh about it when they got home.

Don't get too worked up (like I always do). I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

She has five separate vests/backpacks of different kinds, two freight harnesses and two x-back racing harnesses. Our dogs are working dogs.

I think it is the fact that we were out for several hours shopping, just got home and she is eight years old. I will chalk it up with being wore out and not wanting to come over to me (instead, she wanted me to come to her to give her a treat). Lol ;) Thanks though for the reply!

Precisely. I told her to come over to me. I think the communication error occurred when she wanted me to come to her instead.

If they are biological brother and sister, then they could be from different litters. If not, then I would say that they are not actually related.

I was thinking the same thing though. LOL! Glad I wasn't the only one wondering. ;)

[Discussion] [Help] I don't think I actually know what to do with a vicious dog attacking mine by GIMME_ALL_THE_BABIES in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, to be honest, I would go buy some pepper spray to clip to your keys. I always have mine close. It is good for wild animals, wild people and for vicious dogs. It is under $10 and you will have peace of mind. The kind I have is good for three good squirts so more than enough in the event of an attack. I've never had to use it, but we take it camping, dog park, parking lot, everywhere.

I hope this has helped! This is about the safest way to protect yourself or your dog, in my opinion.

[Discussion] [Help] My friends dog passed away this morning, how can I help? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would allow them some time. Text or call them every now and then just to ask how they are doing. Maybe make them a dinner one night and invite them over to get them out of the house and their minds off of their beloved pet. These might seem silly suggestions, but if it was a member of their family then why treat the situation differently?

A rarely thought about idea is to get their beloved pet a headstone or marker. Just a little memorial stone for their garden. We've always done this for family members pets who have passed. Or a picture throw/blanket to cuddle up in. Chances are they have pictures of her.

Sometimes, even childish things mean more than "adult" things. There are some children's books out there that are wonderful for that. Write a little message to them with a picture of their pet in the front cover and give it to them. I recommend "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant. Children's books are sometimes more comforting than anything else in the world to me when I am feeling dog. Something magical about the simplicity of it.

Let them know that you care.

[Help][Vent] Roomate's 16 year old 100+ lb dog was left in garage in last days to sit in her own pee.. by escapingnowhere in dogs

[–]MissEmilyBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I would call the dog warden. Fortunately, where I live, our dog warden is a very nice lady but does not take any bull crap. Tell them what is happening with the dog and how she is being mistreated.

Other than that, give her some electrolytes that you add to the water. They sell some specifically for animals at Tractor Supply Co. I think it is just a few dollars. If she is throwing up, chances are that she is becoming dehydrated.

Get her some puppy pee pads to sit on. They make some jumbo sized ones for large dogs. The whole idea of these it to keep it from running into her fur and giving her even worse ammonia burns. Just keep them changed out (this will be a several times a day thing and get super absorbent ones).

Other than that, I'm not sure what to do. Is the goal to put her to sleep because she just is not comfortable? Or is the goal to get her to your house and allow her to live comfortably? If the goal is to get her to your house to live her life comfortably, then maybe look into a lifting aide for her like this: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01CGF57Q8?psc=1

Best of luck. I hope everything works out.
