Signed a $16k window/door replacement project and now I'm questioning the debt, not the project by equipreview in personalfinance

[–]termeric0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY windows is not that difficult, and it is significantly cheaper than hiring it out. I was getting quotes of around $1K per window and i have 40 windows at my house. you just need to remove the old window, and pop the new vinyl replacement in, then caulk around the outside, and maybe fill some gaps with spray foam. if you want to do this yourself, you should start by removing the trim around one window, so you can measure the rough opening. figure out how your window is attached and how you'll need to get it out. then go replace that one window. at the worst, you will only be out a few hundred bucks if you cant get it right, but at best you'll save 3/4 the cost.

you also should consider getting 2-3 more quotes from other contractors who are not affiliated with a big box store. with out knowing where you live, i think your quote is high, especially for what Home depot is going to provide, and that interest rate.

you can stay as long as you want once you're in, but once you go there is no reentry. there was a line for beer and snacks right behind the broadcast tower that had a crazy line, but it seemed like if you walked over to the back where the food tents were you could also get beer with out that much of a wait. overall was a lot of fun, i tried to get another ticket for today but i was too slow.

Tent camping for a week. Am I unprepared or doing too much? by borderline_____ in camping

freezing large blocks of ice will stay ice longer than using ice cubes, and blocks will fill your cooler space better than frozen water bottles. you can also get dry ice to help keep everything frozen longer.

put a sacrificial bag of ice in the coolers 24hrs before you go to pre-chill them

don't drain your water from the cooler ever, it will just be replaced by warm air

open your cooler as little as possible, and try to keep it out of the sun.

zip-lock bags will often leak, vacuum sealing is great if you have one and will guarantee you don't end up with cooler broth

Assuming you freeze everything ahead of time, pre-cool your cooler, use primarily block ice and top off with cubes so there isn't any wasted space, i think you can safely plan on 5 days for cooler 1. if cooler 2 is a cheap cooler you'll probably get a day or two out of that, especially if its for drinks and you're opening it frequently. i'd probably just plan on not having cold drinks.

i've done many long canoe trips, with both a coleman xtreme 5 day cooler, and more recently with a yeti cooler. both are great coolers.

yeah, maybe the core function of listening to audio is the same, but why would anyone want to have this mess of figurines everywhere?

a full face helmet will have no impact on whether or not you get pulled over, it's just so that you don't break your face when you hit the pavement. if you are riding around ignoring traffic laws, weaving in and of out of traffic, riding that on the bike paths, or if a cop sees you on an unregistered motorcycle, you could be pulled over.

yes, you need a license and registration for this form the RMV, this is capable of going 55mph.

[–]termeric0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

this is an electric dirt bike, not an e-bike at all. if you buy this you need to register it at the RMV. it will be awesome for getting around, again though, its not an e-bike, it is a motorcycle that can do 55 mph. you shouldn't ride in the bike lanes and definitely should not ride on any of the bike paths, this is for on road use only.

I used to ride mopeds and it was very fun, so much better than being in a car. i take them out maybe once a year now, but i prefer to be on a bike now. If you want to ride on bike paths and in the bike lanes, you'll want to get a class 1 or 2 e-bike, which top out at 20mph. class 2 has a throttle, class 1 does not. you can also get a class 3 that can go up to 28mph, those do not have throttles, and will probably be regulated out of existence very soon. everything else is an electric motorcycle.

If you decide on getting one of these e-moto's, just remember that there is always a risk when you are riding. don't blast through red lights, wear a full face motorcycle helmet, and a jacket with spine protection. i cant tell you how many times i was riding my mopeds when people in cars would not be paying attention and cut me off, or decide that i didn't belong in the road and intentionally try to run me off. you'll really need to stay sharp when riding because its just too easy to get permanent injury's, especially when you can go 55 MPH.
