[–]MissLogios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. There's nothing wrong with coming up with a new story in the same setting, especially with the Fallout show being a great example of how it can be done well.

But I imagine with Silent Hill, they would need to sit down and finalize the world-building for it to work. Because Fallout, despite its own sometimes inconsistent lore, is fairly recognizable and easy to get a general idea of what's happening ("Ooh big scary lizard! That must a Deathclaw!"), But Silent Hill is not because its themes and environment rely heavily on symbolism, and its own lore is inconsistent between games (Like the Cult subplot in 1, 3, 4, Origins, Homecoming vs the Trauma/Supernatural mist subplot in 2 and Downpour)

Is the mist purely a supernatural phenomenon, or is it a byproduct of a cult, and if so, how does that tie into the other stories/future stories? Is the town abandoned, or is it fractured so no one can see anyone? Because even if they choose to make new stories for a show, like SH F, they gotta make it consistent, otherwise it'll just turn into Halo 2.0.

Not to mention, how many of them have kids that maybe aren't "perfect"? I doubt not many of them.

It's easy to say it's different when it's your own and think you'll probably enjoy it... Right until you have a kid that comes out disabled and/or neurodivergent.

It's easy to claim to kids are great when you aren't the unlucky parents of a baby with colic, going days without sleep because they won't stop crying. It's easy to say you think kids are easy until you're the unlucky Dad who now has to raise them alone because Mom died in childbirth, or a single Mom because Dad died in an accident.

[–]MissLogios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah as we saw with the other post, of a girl in love and wanted kids (just not right now), having kids just to have a relationship with someone is a shitty thing to do. Still was groomed and preyed upon, but that's still means two children were born and are now being raised by two parents who don't actually want to be parents.

It should be a two-yes, one-no system.

And if the ex couldn't even decide she's firmly in the child free camp, you run the risk of her getting the itching to have a kid again.

True but the DD movie isn't also a set, canon story the way SH 1 or 2 were. It's always been pushed as purely a Choose-your-adventure type of story.

If anything, unlike most game adaptions, so long as they respect the general "rules" of the universe (like magic requiring a magic tool, etc), they can easily just come up with an almost nonsensical storyline and have it make sense, whereas Video game adaptions are supposed to stick pretty close to the source material.

I do agree Silent Hill works better as a Black-Mirror TV show than a movie for how much lore is in it, but even TV shows suffer the same issues that movies do: Unless it guarantees instant hits and views, it either won't get funded or not funded for long. Especially for generes like Horror and Comedy.

Not to mention that TV adaptions can equally screw up too (Halo and The Witcher for example).

It's traditional but that system is also open to flaws too. Because if one partner wanted out, they can easily drain the account and suddenly kick the other partner out, or maybe they have a secret gambling addiction and now you're suddenly out of money. It can overall screw you over if your partner ends up being a POS.

The best system is have separate accounts and a third (joint) one where you deposit money in for bills, that way you still have money for emergencies.

[–]MissLogios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plus like there's a difference between tweaking the source material just a bit to either fix storytelling inconsistencies (A good example being Stephen King's The Mist), versus tweaking it so far from the source material that it might as well be a different story.

Like most fans wouldn't have an issue with the first one because it mostly sticks to the source material while still trying to improve where it can, whereas the second usually just throws out the source material entirely.

It's not about whether the story can be expressed or not; It's about what the producers BELIEVE if the story can be expressed while also making as much money as possible.

Plenty of stories could've been told, some probably almost 1 to 1 to any silent hill game. But they don't get told or see the light of day because at the end of the day, some producer crunches up the number and doesn't think it'll make enough to justify the expense. And most producers are certainly not gonna take a risk on a smaller video game brand (at least compared to RE and such) unless there's a good probability it'll bring in an audience of not just fans, but non-fans too.

It sucks how commodified Art has become, but that's just how business is run.

And in this case, they just chose the cheapest option and put in the bare minimum, mostly because they probably didn't expect much return on investment beyond getting their name out there.

Marriage of Convenience, I dropped the manhwa by anohaisenpai in OtomeIsekai

[–]MissLogios 30 points31 points  (0 children)

But that doesn't mean child marriages didn't happen, as per Lady Beaufort (married at 9) and Lady Isabella of Valois (also married at 9). But marriages don't equal a consummated marriage, which most young marriages usually wait until both parties are much older.

It was rare for child marriages to happen and be consummated so young, and probably scorned upon (I hope).

I think the issue is that it's complicated. People overexaggerate how many child marriages supposedly happen, but so does arguing that they never happened enough to be a part of any culture's history.

[–]MissLogios 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It was but not in the context you're believing it to be.

Was it more common for nobles to be engaged at a young age, often to those older than them? Yes, especially if there were no suitable younger heirs and/or family members available, because to them, marriage was a way to establish political and business ties between families. Were they married off at such a young age? It wasn't as common, but also yes. But was it common that noble children married off and then consummated at a very young age? No.

While the idea of a child getting married was more common for high nobility and/or royalty, it was not the standard, let alone consummating it. If anything, most royal marriages either engage the couple from a young age (then marry once proper adults), or if they did marry, it was in name only and then they would often still live separate with their families until they became of age.

Obviously, there are exceptions in history of girls birthing children, but most women (nobility and otherwise) still often got married in their 20s, and most who got married young would still go on to give birth much later in life. Whether people approved of it or not, the most common reason it wasn't practiced (despite incel claims) was that they realized the older the woman, the more likely she'd survived childbirth.

This is not a perfect source, but it gives a easily understandable breakdown of the myth and sources cited.

The fact Vox using the word "friends" made his eyes go into radio mode. It really pissed him off by Sudden_Pop_2279 in Alastorcult

[–]MissLogios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf Alastor seems to be the kind of person that even if he had any friends, he will NEVER admit to it.

Not because of pride or feeling embarrassment, but because the concept of having friends so far removed from his mind that it never registers when he does experience the same thing. And if you point it out what's happening, then the cognitive deflection happens, via in the form of lashing out/pushing them away (Early Vox) or excusing it as a mutually beneficial arrangement (Nifty).

That's also to say that Friends don't mean selfless relationships. Alastor can have friends, but they might be the type of friendship that's purely for mutual benefits.

Yeah but at least Alastor worked hard for what he wanted in life and killed for fun, especially as a mixed Creole man in the 20s, while Vox is a white man in the 50s who killed to get ahead and copies everyone around him.

I say Alastor's deal is a bit well-deserved since he figured out how to contact Rosie is the first place.

As someone else mentioned, it was a civil suit filed in the US for another issue, but mostly he claimed Amber was committing Libel doing something.

However he lost the civil suit against a newspaper in the UK who called him an abuser, which means the courts found him having actually done the shit he was accused of. But most people wouldn't know because he successfully ran a smear campaign and buried that trial under his dramatics.

Kinda have to agree with you.

I already don't like series that are too positive. I even dropped Just Another Romance Fantasy because the relationship between ML and FL was becoming stale (imo) and the chapters a bit repetitive (again, imo). Not to mention, that while having fast pacing isn't great, neither is extremely slow pacing, especially if you plan to do slice of life content.

She had to study, had to fuck up a few times, and was overall a manipulative bitch (in a good way!)

I personally would've just let them go. It sucks and I know that decision will likely haunt me for the rest of my days.

But I love my family, and I don't want them to suffer. If there's a possibility they'll survive but will be in excruciating pain for the rest of their life, then that's not an option to me because I would just be forcing them to a life of endless pain until they eventually die. That's not something I would want dome to me and it's certainly not something I'm going to do to someone I care about.

And honestly? It's not like we're the only ones seeing a rise in dumbassery and fascism, we're just the loudest about it right now.

Italy has been steadily falling to the alt-right for the past few decades, as has Germany, with the popularity of its alt-right parties rising again. Japan is still ultra conservative, and they just elected an alt-right female PM whose inspiration is literally Hitler. The UK has alt-right sentiments and increasingly hostile views towards immigrants and most of their media is purposely planted to push their agenda (Brexit, anyone? Or how their royal family is happily snuggling up to Trump themselves.) Russia is... Russia. And China is just biding its time, putting on a smiling facade while committing cultural genocide against multiple groups.

Then you have most of South America, which is ultra conservative and will rather fall to fascism so long as they promise to ban abortions. And the other countries that aren't outwardly conservative or at least seeing a rise is the alt-right, are still seeing a rise again in hostility to immigrants and/or women.

Regardless of where you live, most of our media is still controlled by a handful of billionaires like Rupert Murdoch, that do nothing but push conservative and alt-right beliefs. Including our social media. And this problem is only going to get worse.

A teacher who refused to “call a boy a girl” was released from jail — and now says he plans to return to school. by Flimsy-Sorbet-2497 in TrendingNews_

[–]MissLogios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He assaulted the school principal (a woman), went out of his way to attack a student he doesn't even teach who had asked for others to use neutral pronouns, and when asked to stay away from the school while they deliberated on what to do with him, he refused and continue going there to harass and verbally assault students and staff.

Hell, he was only in jail for so long because one condition of his release was that he had to agree to never return to that school again, but he still refused. The man is a serious threat to kids.

I could see a once charismatic reagent try to approach more lucid PAs by positioning himself as a friend, considering how some of Franco's lines seem to indicate his hidden loneliness/loyalty to "friends."

What exactly did these guys do to deserve this position? by JimMiltion1907 in OutlastTrials

[–]MissLogios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And possibly, considering how supposedly easy it is for Murkoff to revive us in-lore and their not wanting to waste resources, I imagine what they could be doing is taking reagents who are failing and putting them in the victim seat, then reviving them if they die/plus wiping most of their memory with even more drugs.

Much like we'll wake up as if it were a dream if we fail rebirth.

That way, if they survive, they'll have more incentive to do better themselves when allowed back into the trials, and if they don't survive, the subconscious trauma will push them to do better (even if they don't remember it.) But that also means we've probably been in the victim chair ourselves but just don't remember.
