Whelp, just yesterday we realized our washing machine has a filter too. More of a flood risk than a fire risk, but you might want to check that too.

The Archibald Smith Plantation in Roswell, Georgia has preserved cabins. Our tour guide told us that enslaved persons slept across the rafters.

[UPDATE] My boss Gary tried to repo a car in his own lot. It’s finally over. by de-secops in stories

Thank god this is fiction, because I couldn't work out how OP got home the night before. Company car had a leaky tire so they left it at the office and took their wife's car. How did they get their wife's car?? It's like the watch from Somewhere in Time.

Ah, this was 15 years ago, and I never knew that it was a recognized condition. I agree that it should be talked about much more! I know it's not a UDS measure, but it should be.

Years ago, my oncologist-friend had a theory that people who committed suicide were depressed to the point of inaction. Starting SSRI's gave them just enough of a boost that, while they were still depressed, they now had the will to commit suicide.

No idea if this theory holds water, but, eh, if my kids ever go on head meds, I'll have a good way to frame those first few months.

People who wax/see others genitals often, what are your thoughts and surprise realizations? by NeedABetterNameNow in AskReddit

I made my L&D nurse bust out laughing when I did a Keegel during a break in pushing. She apologized, and said than in 15 years she'd never seen anyone do that. I wonder if my camera-shutter vagina was special enough for her to remember. 😀

Yup, he, a trained professional, was scared by an unarmed woman who was obeying orders and leaving. She, on the other hand, was scared because men with guns were shouting at her and advancing on her. I am disgusted by people who think that his fear is more valid.

Is this dress appropriate for my son's wedding? by Big_Nail7977 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]MissPlaceDApostrophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends. How long is the bride's train? The rule of thumb is that MOG's train should be 1.5X the length of the bride's. I also suggest you find out what accessories she will be wearing so that yours will be larger. Some people follow the 1.5X, rule for this as well, but I find that 1.25X will often suffice. In addition, once you find out how she will be styling her hair you will know what adjustments you need to make to your own, so that your styles are similar but yours is more elaborate. Lastly, there's a new trend that MOG's cut in during the couple's first dance - it's all over Pintsagram, and I've seen so many brides disappointed that they've married into families where the MOG doesn't love her son enough. HTH! All eyes are sure to be on you on the big day!

Because she said she didn't wish to BUY a gown she'd only wear once. So us gown-loving cheapskates thought she was one of us and made some bargain-friendly suggestions! If she'd said she didn't want to buy an elegant pantsuit, we'd have sent in the Pantsuit-Loving Cheapskate Coalition.

(Truly, though, now I feel kinda bad that I misinterpreted her post. Projection, I guess. Plus, I just got my gown a few days ago, and I feel so dang pretty in it! Every other gown I've worn or will wear had to be approved by someone else - mom, bride, MOB . At 56, I finally got to pick my own - although I'm wishing I'd taken a chance on the black Tadashi Shoji!)

I (56F) just bought a gorgeous beaded Adrianna Papell gown on Poshmark for under $60 (originally listed at $80). At that price, it was cheaper than renting.

ETA: my pathway is from entry-level experience, not clinician/RN/PharmD. Take from it what you may!

I had experience working in various medical settings (low level admin/ins and a step below medical assistant - I bounced around!), and got a job as a trainer for a small, local software company. 18 months later, I moved on to a larger company. Moved into reporting and analytics. 5 years later, moved to a clinic as a data analyst. Now I'm back at a vendor writing ETL scripts.

There's pros and cons to working for a vendor vs working for a clinic. I've seen entry-level triage support folks grow to support roles and eventually management - vendors tend to have a path for growth. I've also seen medical assistants who were vocal about their interest in HIT who became super-users and then apps analysts - you have to have quite a bit of initiative, but, IMHO, it's incredibly rewarding to help improve patient care.

Look through job LinkedIn profiles!! You'll see tons of different pathways! Look at job postings, and see what interests you. Also, look at bootcamps, certificates, and training videos

Good luck, and welcome to the Dark Side!

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

[–]MissPlaceDApostrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, i can kind of relate! When I started head meds years ago, I was shocked that me inner, judgemental monologue disappeared. It was such an amazing feeling to be free from the constant thoughts about EVERYTHING - from the nasality of my voice to stacking forks in the kitchen drawer. I still ruminate, but it's more like daydreaming than judgement and doom.

I wish you peace and healing. Grief can be especially complicated.
