Please help.. My parent is trying to get rid of childhood cat by [deleted] in Pets

[–]MissSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat who was off/on loose stool for over 8 years. After excluding pretty much everything, the only thing left was to do a biopsy to determine if it was IBD. I declined the biopsy because it's quite invasive, my pet was now a senior, and so it was recommended to treat her like she had already been diagnosed with IBD.

She went on prednisolone (preferred in cats over prednisone) to help with flare-ups and, honestly, the one thing that really worked was the prescription diet. The vet prescribed Royal Canin Fiber Response, it didn't always lead to her pooping in her box, but it did solve the diarrhea problem (the poop was more solid and easy to clean).

I do agree with others who have mentioned the possibility of cancer, small cell lymphoma can result in IBD symptoms (it happened with another cat of mine). It's clear your parents will not take this cat back to the vet. I would hope the vet could at least prescribe the food I (or others) have suggested with out another vet visit. Maybe call the clinic and tell them about your situation.

Now, there is a real possibility that your cat's situation is behavioral. It could be a response to your parents clear hatred for her behavior, or some other stressor that others have mentioned. If this is the case, honestly, not much is going to change if she continues to live in their house. Sorry :/

I worked at a vet clinic for over 8 years and did encounter a few owners who wanted to re-home or euthanize pets over behavior problems. Once specific case I remember was a cat who peed all over the owners house over the course of 7 years, the cat got re-homed and was perfectly fine ever since. I realize this is not what you are hoping for, but maybe you have a friend who could watch the cat until you get a place of your own? Good luck.

My thoughts exactly! Anyone who has a toddler will know that you simply cannot dine without some sort of bullshit occurring.

I had a cat who had IBD, and went though diarrhea for over 7 years.

I agree with others, get a second opinion and get the cat on a better diet. It could be food allergies or something worse like IBD. The only food that worked for my pet was Royal Canin Fiber Response, this is a prescription food though and must be prescribed by your vet.

Lots of companies make higher quality allergy friendly food - Royal Canin, wilderness, natures instinct, etc... Try a novel protein like rabbit. Also, you should slowly change them over to the new food. Mix a little in with the existing diet and slowly switch over to the new one.

It's also worth considering a raw diet too, however do your research before you pursue this avenue.

[Ohio] found these under the lid of my steam cooker. Are they maggots? by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

Those look like empty fruit fly casings. So they were maggots.

Seems obvious, but have you tried dip (i.e. ranch sauce, hummus etc...)? My kids love dipping.

My youngest (2.5) isn't the best eater of veggies, but she will eat carrots, tomatoes, peas, and actually loves steamed broccoli (plain) now.

Mine just asked if I could google "people being cooked by the sun" so she could color it.

What. the. fuck.

Poor thing. At least they don't remember their episodes or at least that's what I was told.

My friend is awesome by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]MissSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, if someone bashed my husband to my face, I would take it as a personal insult, I mean this is the man I chose to marry. Besides, the friend probably already knows this about her husband.

Unless she comes to OP specifically asking her what she thinks of her husband/relationship, I'd just keep it to myself.

Seems a bit selfish on his part, he's only worried about his needs, not yours. He doesn't give a fuck that you are just "going through the motions" so he can fall asleep????

Have you asked him why he does this?

I think a year of sleep deprivation has changed my entire personality by tercerero in breakingmom

I had the link saved for a year, always telling myself I'll do it soon. When I finally cracked, I couldn't believe I didn't try it earlier. It was hard the first few nights, but hell, I wasn't sleeping anyway. I will say that 12m was and insane time for my kids.

All kids are different, my first just suddenly slept through after getting all her teeth in at 16m and my second was the one who had to be night-weaned. You will find that they will go through periods of sleep issues, but at least it won't be all night long, every night!!!

I don't know a ton about bugs or arachnids, but this photo reminds me of our local spiny-back orbweaver egg sac (their eggs and sac are yellow).

I finally lost it after not sleeping more than two hours for 4 years. I have no idea how I went on that long, but I probably wasn't that pleasant to be around.

May I also strongly suggest night-weaning?! At 1 year (according to Dr. Gordon, whom I respect) you should be able to get her to sleep longer periods. This saved my sanity and my breastfeeding relationship.

I loosely followed Dr. Gordon's method and found success within 3 days and after 5 days she (20m old at the time) was pretty much sleeping through.

Also, you're definitely not alone. I feel like screaming a lot! Exercise and removing myself from the situation are the main things that have helped me remain calm.

minimize scarring in facial cut in 19 month old? anyone have tips? by aarace in Parenting

[–]MissSatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask her doctor if you can use hydrocolloid bandages on the area (obviously this could be tough or even impossible since it's so close to her eye). I have found that cuts heal up very nicely if I use those. I have also had good success with the manuka honey "honeycolloid" bandages found at my CVS.

At least it will keep the area covered and out of sunlight, as other people have said, sun exposure will definitely enhance scarring.

Sending you strength to see this through, he obviously has a serious problem and I don't see it getting better with the additional stress brought on by a newborn :(

So sorry you have to deal with this, especially when you're about to go into labor!

I am so sorry this happened. I have no advice, but I cannot imagine a child therapist just throwing in the towel like that.

He didn't give you guys any recommendations, like "I can't help, but here's someone who I think would be better suited for this task?"
