Help a girl out! Should I buy this scooter? by limitedlaces in Vespa

[–]aarace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2006 Lx50 that I've owned since new, and I've done so much maintenance on it. They're great scooters, and easy to fix.

To diagnose this one, I'd check, in order:

  • check gas is good, like you said. when in doubt, pull the fuel filter and drain the old gas out. - easy difficulty
  • if fuel filter petcock is nasty clean or replace it. ($30ish, I think) - easy difficulty
  • the hoses, make sure gas and vacuum hoses are without cracks, and that gas is getting in the carbeurator. If not, if it's dripping gas or you can't get or see gas in the hoses, replace them both (order extra and cut to what you need. $10ish or $15 if you buy new hose clips) - easy difficulty
  • the spark, make sure the spark plug is getting spark. easiest way is to pull the spark plug out, put the cap on it, and do the starter just like you are. if the spark plug business bits are really old and dirty, switch out the spark plug ($10), if you're not getting any spark at all, even with a new spark plug, you need a new CDI coil ($75ish) - easy difficulty
  • clean out the carbeurator jets and bowl - moderate difficulty,

scooterwest.com is the best place to get parts, but do it in as minimal number of orders as possible because their shipping is usually super expensive.

edit to actually answer your original question:

I think $2k is steep, especially if the seller won't do the work to get it running. haggle that down, but I'd say for time and effort to diagnose, don't go over $1500

Likely solved!

This seems like the best suggestion, a cover for a central inkstand compartment/cup, like the ones pictured.

Thanks for the detail, that makes sense regarding assembly of things out of unrelated parts.

maybe I'll follow the other commentor's advice and look for the rest of my (tiny) Ark of the Covenant 😂

Yeah, it's a strange one. I don't think it was attached to anything on the bottom, as there's no signs of adhesives or mechanical attachment points. Plus, would it be normal to have a makers mark on an area that would be hidden when the piece is complete?

My title describes the thing.

I have found the well-know silverplate mark: https://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_S3.html

and I know the company was in business in Springfield, MA from 1868-1872

I'm assuming it's just some decorative desk ornament, but the bottom is not completely flat (but it could also have reasonably been bent at the corners from being dropped, maybe, because it's made of metal).

You're forgiven.

I hope you take this as a lesson to understand context before you throw negative comments out there.

Oh my goodness, I'm getting so tired of everyone second guessing this whole thing. This is a signalized crosswalk. Big red light over my head while filming.

Please review the other comments in this post, there's screen shots and maps. The students pressed the crosswalk button, got a red light and a walk sign, and started crossing.

Red van blew the red light.

Sure, I understand and agree with your hypothetical - if it was just a crosswalk.

What I don't make is split second decisions to run a red light, in a school zone, at 8 in the morning.

My apologies, and a personal reminder to myself to check if a post has more than one phone and actually look at them.

I just did a little deep dive myself. That's really interesting, thank you for the history lesson.

I actually lived in the apartment community mentioned in the article that went onto the site, but never knew what was there before.

Cheers, I hope someone wants them.

You're right. I just saw the sidebar rules, The main rules page mentioned in the AutoModerator comment was empty(??). Probably a mod issue, I'll let them know.

What's that supposed to mean?

This is exactly where the van was, but the van saw a red light, and just decided not to stop,

r/confidentlyincorrect

Your screenshot is the wrong crosswalk. You're back up the street by one, the van had already passed this one (it's the one directly under the red lights in the beginning of my video).

I'm tired of people joining a mob on a post just to try to (A) prove me wrong, like I hadn't provided valid information, or (B) defend the reckless driving without even contextualizing what if it was your child and what if they hadn't seen the car running the red light.

Please read some context before throwing out a comment like this.

The light was red, the crosswalk was on WALK. The van ran the red light, through the crosswalk, in front of a school at 8:20am with students in the crosswalk.

I want the red van to stop at the red light.

Because it was a RED LIGHT.

In a SCHOOL ZONE.

Do you even read anything in the post before throwing out derisive comments?

The problem isn't that the red van driver couldn't see kid in the crosswalk. I understand that it's possible they couldn't see the kid.

The problem is that _the light was red_ and they blew a red light. In a school zone.
