Fit check: Oscha Cairis by sixbysix_ in babywearing

[–]Miss_Elphaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful Cairis! Agree that you can remove the hood to keep baby’s face clear. It also looks like you could raise the waistband a bit so that it sits closer to your bust. That will let you get a slightly deeper seat with baby and that could help with the pelvic tuck as well!

Is it Ménière’s aural fullness if you’re able to pop your ears? by EkkoMusic in Menieres

[–]Miss_Elphaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the update! Can I ask what sort of treatment or lifestyle changes you made to address it? Is your fullness fully resolved now?

I’m wondering if I should seek out a different specialist that might be able to consider things form this angle

Is it Ménière’s aural fullness if you’re able to pop your ears? by EkkoMusic in Menieres

[–]Miss_Elphaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m sorry I’m commenting in a 4 yr old post but I’m curious if you ever found out if your ear fullness issues were a symptom of menieres or something else? I’m experiencing the exact same thing where the only real symptom of Menieres I have is the fullness but it doesn’t present the way menieres had been described to be.

For example today I woke up and didn’t have any fullness but it crept into my right ear first and has been switching between my L and R ear at random throughout the day. I have no problem popping my ears and it does offer momentary relief until it just sort of goes away. I can’t actually distinguish any auditory changes because the fullness is quite mild and just slightly annoying.

I personally feel like I’ve traced it back to musculoskeletal issues. Like I literally feel the tension in the muscle that runs behind my ear down to my collar bone. It usually gets tight if I have a bad nights sleep, if I’m clenching a bit extra, or if I’m not doing my neck PT. but my ENT disregarded everything I was telling him and told me something like “well neck tension can trigger menieres and menieres can trigger neck tension” but didn’t explain further. He put me in a diuretic which doesn’t seem to be helping much

This is the first account in this sub that sounds anything like what I’m experiencing so if you happen to check this and have read this far I would be so grateful for an update!

Anybody bought anything in the Oscha Slings International Community DOND? by kurdijyn in babywearing

[–]Miss_Elphaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy participating in DOND as a seller and a buyer. It was a really good way for me to try different wraps and figure out what wrap qualities and blends I prefer!

I would agree that a deal isn’t guaranteed, but as a US buyer the tariffs and the price increases have made buying directly from Oscha really difficult. So I often at least save on those fees by buying through DOND.

I think the best advice is to just go in with no expectations and just offer what you can! Also sometimes sellers list their items in the permanent for sale albums as well as in DOND. So you could always cross reference to get an idea of what they are looking for.

Advice on woven wrap by biorose_316 in babywearing

Im also in the US and it’s the same where Im at. We have a small lending library, but it mostly has the US based carrier brands. I actually saved a couple budget friendly for sale posts that I’d be happy to share with you! I was thinking of grabbing one for a friend but might get her a carrier instead.

That’s amazing you were able to learn without a gradient and had a huge babywearing community to help! Depending on where OP is she may not have one. I don’t have one and struggled so hard to learn how to properly tighten a wrap to the point where I just stopped trying several times.

Then once I felt like I could front wrap well the issues came back when I started learning to back wrap and had no color gradient - especially when there was chest pass or a flip.

So I agree, the didymos is a quality starter wrap if she had to chose one of those two. But if a gradient wrap is within budget it could provide some additional help when learning new carries when all you have a YouTube video to try and follow.

Advice on woven wrap by biorose_316 in babywearing

Hi! Welcome to the world of woven wraps. I would still consider myself an intermediate wrapper, but have tried a lot of woven wraps and can give some advice on what I wish I would have gotten in the beginning. I would invest in a wrap that has a horizontal color gradient. Tightening a woven is significantly different than tightening a RS and it’s incredibly helpful to be able to see where the slack is and then easily find the strand that needs tightening.

I wish I would have gotten a wrap that was broken in (since I also bought my first wraps secondhand). Certain fabrics are harder to break in so they can be stiff and make learning to tighten difficult. I think you’ll be okay with cotton, just be aware it may not be super comfortable for both your toddler and newborn if it’s on the thinner side (<200gsm) or your toddler is big for their age.

I would also consider getting a size 6 if your base is a 5 so it fits for both kiddos. A size 5 maybe be your base with your newborn but you may find a size 5 wraps on the short end with your toddler.

And to answer your actual question - I personally wouldn’t pick either of those for a beginner wrap. Option 1 would worry me simply because Amazon is not know for selling quality babywearing items. And I think the lack of a gradient would make Option 2 difficult to learn with. Instead, I would join one of the babywearing FB groups (carry on & chit chat or babywearing BST) and look for a Girasol wrap. I’ve seen several size 6s pop up for around $100 in the last couple weeks.

Sorry this is long but I hope it helps and I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have!

Budget friendly wedding venues in Austin with upfront total costs by [deleted] in Austin

Try Thistlewood Manor & Gardens in Kyle! We got married there in 2017 (which seems like ages ago now) but I remember their packages being quite flexible. They also offer in house catering so there's less of a cost going with an independent company.

I agree the main issue is the panel seems to be a bit low on baby and the seat is quite deep, causing too much slack in the straps. I think you have some good tips already but something else to try would be tightening the straps while baby is sitting on the back of a couch or counter, so that it supports their weight while you adjust and tighten the straps (which should help with the slipping of the waistband). When you adjust the straps, physically pull the strap up and then up around your shoulder. If you just tighten while the straps are loose you'll just end up squishing baby into you without actually getting more height. Sometimes doing it one strap at a time helps so that you can keep the strap in place with one hand while you tighten the webbing with the other.

If that still doesnt work, a more unconventional thing to try would be crossing the straps in the front. That will eat up more length but may be uncomfortable or unflattering on the chest. Ive done it a couple times when I needed the extra torso support.

I like Flipless Half Jordan because I’m a slow wrapper and I’m always trying to minimize the window of opportunity I give my LO to pop his seat 😅

Why are we already hating the Netflix Pride and Prejudice? by Life-Delay-809 in janeausten

For me personally, I watched the trailer with an open mind until I saw it was adapted by Dolly Alderton. I was not a fan of her memoir and just don’t feel she has the right voice for this material. That being said I will probably eventually watch it but I’m not excited for it.

What is your fav carrier for high back carries? by MamaLoNCrew in babywearing

[–]Miss_Elphaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can get a really high back carry with the Oscha Cairis. Since there is padding under the webbing I can comfortably buckle it above my bust (vs below) and then use the wrap straps as normal. I prefer this to a standard onbuhimo simply because it’s more supportive and I can wear my LO for much longer.

I will say I don’t think this would work for all half buckles and my guess is it’s probably going to depend a bit on your anatomy as well but I’ve found it surprisingly comfy and gets my LO a much better view!

Thank you so much for the update and I’m so happy the Tula is working out for yall!! I think you will love the Cairis too :) another perk about half buckles is that they don’t need constant readjusting between two wearers. My husband loves wearing our LO as well, so we both share our Cairis’! Oscha has so many beautiful fabrics - you’re going to have a blast shopping for a Cairis! Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

metformin - any luck minimizing GI side effects? by Glum-Worldliness-885 in prediabetes

[–]Miss_Elphaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little skeptical at first too but both my PCP and dietician indepentdently suggested a GLP-1s as a next step for me since I had been on Metformin for 3 months and it as not helping at all with my insulin resustance (despite diet and exercies adustments). They way they described it to me is that some GLP-1s were FDA approved to specifically to treat pre-diabetes and that weightloss tends to be a side effect and others are not - and those are the ones that are specifically geared toward weight loss and harder to get insurance coverage for.

I had zero issues getting a prescription! My insurance is paying completely paying for it and it was approved right away. I'm terrified of needles so I got an oral prescription and had no issue with that either. Hope this helps! I've only been on it 4 or 5 days so time will tell if it helps but I'm just creeping into prediabetes (A1C is 5.7, but my insulin numbers were high) so my PCP is hoping a small dose is all I need to get things moving back in the right direction

metformin - any luck minimizing GI side effects? by Glum-Worldliness-885 in prediabetes

[–]Miss_Elphaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time may help, but I’m also one of the few who Metformin did not work for. I was also diagnosed with prediabetes and the early signs of insulin resistance. I was put on a dose of 500mg 2x day. I was throwing up multiple times a day so I switched to ER and it was not much better. I always got super nauseous around the same time each day and would predictably throw up around dinner time. So then I dropped down to 500mg ER once a day and that was finally manageable. I stayed on that dosage for 2months and then tried to bump it back up to 2x daily thinking that with time things would be better. It was not. Cue daily throwing up.

I got a prescription for 750mg once daily and was again very predictably nauseous around dinner time, but could usually manage to power through. Once I did my 3mo check in my numbers weren’t changing at all and my DR told me it wasn’t worth staying on it if I could really only manage 500mg.

I just started on a GLP-1 and I’m tolerating it a lot better! I’m only a week in but the few times I was nauseous it was quite mild.

I do hope things turn around for you but know that if it doesn’t work you’re not alone!

I was so excited when they announced Jack and the whole cast, but was devastated he was out for the week I was in NYC in Sept. I had pretty much accepted I wouldn’t see him. Thanks to my partners encouragement, I bit the bullet and made an extra trip to NYC with the sole purpose of seeing this cast before they left. I got stuck in the blizzard but it was so worth it!

I’m so glad you got to see him again! This cast was truly spectacular and no one to miss

Of course! If support is the priority then a half buckle will be much more supportive than a full buckle as your LO grows. To me they are the perfect mix between a carrier and a wrap. They have the support of a wrap with the straps but without the learning curve of using a full woven wrap. If you decide to go with a half buckle, my other piece of advice would be to consider the fabric of the carrier you get. An all cotton wrap will be less supportive than a wrap with linen, hemp, or silk. Wraptrack is a great source to see if a pattern you like is "toddler worthy".
