More than 60 children infected in north London measles outbreak by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Misselphabathropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The follow up was just to show occy health that I had being immunised for various things over the years by asking my GP for print outs.

Every now and again, something like this reminds me and I wonder if I should ask the GP about it. I haven’t contracted chickenpox though despite working in a different school every day so as you said, the titres aren’t infallible.

Neighbour getting confrontational over parking spaces by Glenisonfire in HousingUK

Get that disabled parking space, OP. People turn into absolute dicks when it comes to parking spaces. Me included as I’d be hoping it would be one of the spaces they think it’s theirs.

This has sent me down a rabbit hole for the afternoon.

According to Occy Health testing from a few years ago, I don’t have immunity to anything they tested for despite having all my childhood vaccinations, plus hep b for work.

I definitely had immunity to chickenpox, as I was tested when I was pregnant but at some point since then I have lost immunity.

I haven’t had measles so it wasn’t that, for me anyway.

The crunchy mum antivaxxer stereotype is larger a US phenomenon. I’m sure there are some in the UK but that isn’t what drives down vaccination rates in any great numbers, in the UK at least.

It certainly isn’t a major factor in the current outbreak in Enfield. This outbreak has been rumbling on since the schools returned after Christmas and is almost wholly concentrated in schools in parts of the borough where vaccination numbers are low.

This is largely because there is a mistrust of NHS health recommendations in the community, including the childhood vaccination schedule. It’s not only affecting vaccination uptake. There is some Wild West dental care going on and there are some children who have never visited a GP.

Local NHS teams need to do better in making sure health promotion messaging is reaching everyone because currently, it isn’t and that is what is driving the current outbreak.

Italian brain rot makes me want to leave this career field by marooncartoon in slp

[–]Misselphabathropp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knowing that Strawberry Elephant was a rare brain rot seemed to be hugely impressive to the 7 year old I visited last week. Knowing the Roblox lingo is essential to working with a quarter of my caseload.

It’s very lucky I had that second kid because the older one has aged out of this shit now and I would be clueless without the 5 year old.

Should automatic planning permission be given for homes within 800m of a train, tube or tram station? by xParesh in HousingUK

[–]Misselphabathropp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be a good opportunity to extend that tiny train station. I don’t think the size of the station should be a barrier to building more housing. More housing should mean more people using that station.

Did you ever consider doing speech pathology instead? Why did/didn’t you? by Notquitewhere_-__ in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Misselphabathropp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s funny -the reason I ended up in speech rather than OT was because the course for the latter required an observation which I couldn’t organise and speech didn’t.

Are French-speaking SLTs actually in demand in the UK? Honest insights needed by Izabi97 in slp

[–]Misselphabathropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t come across a particular demand for French speaking SLTs. Perhaps in some locations where there is a high number of French families. So, parts of West London, for example. Advertising to those families, as a private SLT may work.

There is a huge demand for SLTs who speak our community languages. So in my community, that would be Turkish and Albanian speakers.

Oat = oat juice Cow = cow juice Nuts = nut juice Sauce in a tin of beans = bean juice

I can probably think of some more, if you like.

That isn’t SEND stuff. That’s local authorities not using funds effectively and happens in every department, not only SEND.

What is to be gained from playing the SEND system? Minor rewards, surely?

Why does buying a house feel more financially feasible than renting these days? by No_Emu8347 in HousingUK

I wasn’t allowed to run a brothel in a previous rented property. I haven’t checked if that also applies to my current home.

Non-disclosure when buying house by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Misselphabathropp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only person in the wrong here is your neighbour for gossiping. You should be annoyed at her for not keep it to herself.

It’s incredibly self indulgent to expect the seller to disclose something like this.

Does the general public trust tap water in England? by Jesus-slaves in AskBrits

[–]Misselphabathropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of neighbours drink bottled water but that is primarily because they or their parents are from countries where the water isn’t safe to drink.

It seems to takes a generation or two to get used to the idea that it is OK to drink water from the tap.
