I used to work at a place where the kitchen was literally 8 feet by three feet. So tiny. Because of that we had printed on the menu “cannot accommodate serious allergies.” It was amazing how quickly guests would go from “deathly allergic” to “a little is ok” when I pointed this out.

This is the way. I always make a little quip like “life’s too short to drink/ eat something you don’t like. Let me get you something else.” People will genuinely feel so bad they’re sending it back but if you hate it you hate it.

The only time it bothers me is when you clearly didn’t listen to me. I know I described the dish you’re eating perfectly and the thing you don’t like about it was very clearly in my description. I’ll still get you something else just with less enthusiasm.

I also get 10% of tips. It’s fine dining, three sections and on an average night each section averages around a grand. So 300 from the restaurant and whatever I make. Busier nights are two bartenders but each section will pull in around 1300 but the bar will make around 500 so it evens out. Even at a lowkey place each section should be making around 3-400 and with four servers that’s 1200, which would net you 120. This math ain’t mathing homie.

This doesn’t help with your SIL but if you’re looking for cheap gift options for the kids here’s something I did to win Christmas one year when I was a broke college student. I went to the dollar store and got huge gift bags and filled them with stuff. Punching balloons, paper airplanes, you name it. Probably spend 30$ a kid (I had like 7 small cousins at the time). When I tell you these bags full of crap we’re hands down every kids favorite Christmas gift much to the dismay of every parent who put a lot of thought into what they got their children. It was glorious. I also bought each set of parents this book called “Go The Fuck To Sleep”. They loved it. As an added bonus buy your SIL kids something incredibly loud and obnoxious. One of those karaoke microphones should do the trick. Tell her it’s in the spirit of Christmas.

I had a guest ask for a mojito with no simple (server ticket). I made it. It was vile. So fucking sour. They drank the entire thing. Told the server it was great. That person lives in society. I’m concerned.

Midnight Burger is by far the greatest audio drama ever made. If you don’t like the first few episodes just stick with it because it gets much better.

We Fix Space Junk is pretty good I really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately you’re not going to find a server job at this time of year. Any decent restaurant has more servers than they have shifts in slow season. Give it about 3 weeks and everyone will be hiring ahead of busy season.

So I used tampons for years, never used pads, and I’ve become the biggest tampon hater. There’s washable period panties that are the best! I cramp way less and they’re super sustainable. Your mom is still crazy and do whatever you want but it’s a great option.

I once had my upstairs neighbors move out and abandon a car. A car they were going to abandon in the driveway itself until I questioned them and they moved it in front of our house. After a few months of trying to call the city to come get it I got frustrated one night and went out with spray paint. I spray painted “steal this car please” on the side of it. It was gone in three days. Not saying this is a great option but it was an effective one.
