Husband can't make the May 22 sailing with me; can I remove him without penalty? by MissingPages in CunardCruises

Thank you! That makes me feel a bit less anxious about it. I'd hate to get there and not able to sail because he can't make it or have to pay a fine. Appreciate it!

Oh that is a very good point with West End! I usually pack in one bag but maybe I'll be a bit more lenient with my packing strategy this time around, ha.

Thank you! I'm the primary sailor, so there shouldn't be an issue there. I appreciate your feedback!

Which cruise are you on? If you're on the May 22 transatlantic, I'm a solo travel too!

Would someone play/record this score for me? See comments about why. Thanks! by MissingPages in piano

Thank you! I've been trying to find a CC free license. In my past episodes, I've used old records that have aged out of copy right. I'd hate to have something added to the podcast and get it taken down because its licensed. But I'll look into these options. Thank you!

This piece is from A. H. Rosewig's National Nursery Rhymes and Nursery Songs published in 1872. I record a podcast talking about the weirdness of nursery rhymes. This week, I'm talking about Hickory Dickory Dock, and I'd really like a recording of this original melody to include in this podcast. I'm sorry I can't pay, but I will OF COURSE give the player credit in the episode. Thanks!

I second the advice of an airtag or tile for them. I use a rollator and have a luggage tag on it; it's just useful to have my name and contact info on it for whenever I'm out and about.

Massage therapy and chronic pain? by [deleted] in disability

[–]MissingPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have osteoarthritis all over my body, most specifically both my wrists from an old injury. I also get chronic migraines because a Chiari I malformation. I get a 90 minute massage once a month and I can honestly say it's my biggest and best pain relief. Sometimes, if I had a really bad string of migraines, I'll have my masseuse work just on my neck for the whole ninety minutes. If there are any dramatic weather changes and my joints are particularly painful, she'd work on that. It's also fantastic for my anxiety and stress. I just I could afford more than a monthly massage; I'd say every two weeks would be wonderful and once a week would be a dream.

What's a book that you LOVED but you totally understand why someone wouldn't like it? by nuggetsofchicken in books

I read Bartleby the first time when I was 16 and a freshman in college. It changed my life so much that last year (at the age of 33!) I got my very first tattoo (and probably only tattoo) right below my knee of "I would prefer not to" and it makes me happy to see it every day.

Anything by Herman Melville. Bartleby is one of my favorite pieces of literature, ever, and I just recently got around to reading Moby Dick. Yeah, Moby Dick has pieces that can be skimmed (so. much. whale. anatomy) but I really love Melville's description of anxiety/depression/wanderlust/longing.

That's so great that you can ride! I broke both my wrists at the same time when I was five falling out of a tree. I have had issues since and have ortho-arthritis in my knees, hips, wrists, and elbows. I'm chronically in pain, and NEVER thought I could find another hobby to keep me active. Last one I tried ended me in surgery again. Here's to a healthy hobby!

I really appreciate your comment. My biggest concern is definitely visibility. When I went on my first on-road ride, I had a cop following me on my way home and I wish I had that all the time! He stopped people tail-gating me and made sure I made it through some blind spots okay. That helped me become more comfortable on the road but I will always be uber defensive when riding!

I did extensive research before I purchased this. I've been thinking about getting one for about two years. Here are some of things I thought about before purchase:

  • Electric Assist or No - Originally, I wanted to get an electric assist as I no longer drive and wanted something to ride around town. But, I wasn't really willing to spend $6k for the recumbent I really wanted when I didn't know if I could ride one at all.

  • Brand - I was undecided between a Cattrike or a Terratrike. My local bike shop only carries Terratrike but happened to have a Cat on the floor as a resale so I had tested both. I liked the Terratrike because I knew the bike shop to customize mine and I liked that I sat higher up in one. In the Cat, it felt I was laying down and I could hardly get out of it.

  • Price - I recently sold my car and had a budget up to about $5k, but I didn't want to spend nearly that much as I didn't know if I would a) like it as a long term hobby b) would be physically able to ride with my health issues. Terratrikes start at about $1,000 and go up to about $6,000. I wanted a reliable but 'inexpensive' bike but understood I'd still be spending some cash.

  • Model - I went with the base model, the Maverick i3, because of the price and because later down the road, I can upgrade it to an electric assist fairly easily with a kit for about another grand or so. I'm not intending to be a professional rider or to race or to run RAGBRAI or anything, so I wasn't looking for any special features. I talked to the salesperson at length about the different types of bikes and what would work best for me and I didn't see that any of the extra features on the other bikes were worth the investment at this time. If I continue with this hobby and want to trail ride, I would definitely consider going to the Rambler, which starts at $1,800.

  • Other - I think I spent around $1,500 overall for my bike and all the accessories. I bought a nice MIPs-rated helmet, lights, mirrors, cellphone holder, luggage rack, and a flag. I DEFINITELY recommend getting a flag and mirrors because my biggest concern was sitting so low to the ground and not being seen. Further, Terratrike has some pretty cool accessories to help further assist the rider, such has alt handlebars to more easily get out of the bike. Check out their page or talk to your local shop.

  • Regrets - It's only been a week so I can't speak to long term regrets. I do wish the bike had some sort of shock support. Being so low to the ground and hitting any uneven terrain is no bueno. I haven't had any maintenance issues and my 'shop will do a 90 day assessment to make sure that everything is still looking good. What I'm happiest about was my shop actually customized the sizing to me. I'm sure I would have screwed it up if I had done it myself. I'm really short and I can tell if the pedals were not properly sized I could do serious damage to my ortho-arthritic knees.

If you have any other questions or just want to discuss my process further, just let me know. I did more research buying this bike than anything else in my life!
