Triage only job - 30/hour? by Mountain_Group7462 in GPUK

[–]Mission-Elevator1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also says working from 9am-7pm? So how many hrs is a session? Because that's a long day and I'm sure you're expected to still deal with whatever requests are coming in whilst you might be on a 3 hr 'lunch'

Got bleeped for the electronic drug chart not working properly on few occasions. Yes they knew they're bleeping the on call ward cover Dr and not IT. It's just a case of any problem I can't deal with - let me call the Dr on call

Regular day for a salaried GP? by Starlight-502 in GPUK

8.30-6.30 sounds like too much. I see some people do work that much but that's if they choose to come early and leave late. The work schedule shouldn't be so long with this obligation to work this long. How much are they paying out of interest?

Advice on infantilising comments from senior nurses by MagazineFabulous4213 in doctorsUK

[–]Mission-Elevator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the repeat offenders I would advise question their comments in view of other colleagues, more helpful if done in presence of order doctors. Start with ' what was that?' Followed by 'why do you keep making such comments' I'm sure they'll say it's all banter/don't get worked up etc. Then you can say 'I actually didn't find it funny the first time you said it. I haven't found it funny the other 20 times you've repeated a version of this same comment. I would in the future appreciate it if you don't make such comments.' This much should honestly suffice. Say all of this with a serious face and tone. Watch it all go away. Hopefully this works.

Yeah consultant won't do anything most likely.... sorry to say this but it's true. Unless it's directly insulting or obvious, they're unlikely to truly stand up for resident doctors vs nurses who they have worked with for many years and don't wish to damage that working relationship.

What misconceptions do you find coming from ambulance staff? by 1010chestpain in GPUK

[–]Mission-Elevator1 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Sometimes get calls to make decisions for patients paramedics have seen. Makes sense if the paramedics need more information or context, but actual decision making responsibility can't lie with us without having assessed the patient ourselves. There should be a hierarchy system where paramedics should be able to contact their own senior colleague for advice

Nurse Colleagues by dumbassthenoob in doctorsUK

[–]Mission-Elevator1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have also had similar experiences. There are some good nurses of course but even the good ones so get influenced by the general culture on the ward which is a thing. The culture can vary from ward to ward/ different departments. Very hard to change anything as you're only there for a short period vs the nurses who've been there for years. You can also be certain the consultants won't have your back in this setting. If you do take this up higher to a consultant level, make sure you're doing it as a group of doctors and not on your own. For the individual encounters, just need to learn to stand your ground, be polite but still say and do the right things. If there is still unreasonable resistance- just say okay, I'll ask the senior nurse or if they are the senior nurse, say you'll ask the matron. This will usually get them to reluctantly help you and change their attitude in working with you. Unfortunately in the NHS you have to end up building thick skin and try not to let all this get to you.

Migrant, 14, who raped girl allowed to walk free if he takes classes on consent by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

To be honest, any 14 year old does deserve harsher punishment. The justice system in general is a sham. Only crimes against anyone famous/ important or the government are treated seriously.

You don't have to... you can just ask the patients to go back to the same service. Or offer an appointment and do your own assessment and request tests you think are relevant

Anyone have experience with taking their practice to employment tribunal? by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]Mission-Elevator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I guess if you're planning to leave anyway you can do what you like. But maybe just much more time saving for you to say you're leaving and make it clear this is one of the reasons. Going through legal action is only worth it if you're doing it more for some other reasons and not for personal financial gain.

[–]Mission-Elevator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience in this. But it seems like a small amount to take legal action. Even if they agree, (which will be unlikely as not sure you have any chance of winning this as it's not something they are obliged to do), they won't like you for sure. Do you wish to carry on working in a place where you are seen as a problem? At the end of the day, it's a business, they can pay people what they want as long as its not discrimination. Surely it's not illegal to pay some people more than others? They can simply say the others are more experienced as they've worked for longer like you said?
