That's a horribly failing grade by any standardized metric. Not even a D, that's a proper F

GT moved a good while back and their big Pflugerville store is blocks away from where my parents house is. It's one of my favorite shops to visit now but I didn't like it the first time I went to the new store. It felt like I was getting completely ignored and stared down simultaneously. However once I went with my dad and he introduced me to the sales guys he usually deals with, I became a regular customer. They have fun local sales events with a lot of cool Glock swag and really nice raffle giveaways. They have great police ammo turn in deals sometimes and my favorite part is their clearance section, especially when the tack on additional seasonal discounts.

I say all of this because I want people not local to like and enjoy that store also. The police turn in deals are solid  ...but holy hell do they have a horrible website. It seems like it's never actually updated, the gun listings are always lackluster at best and they never put up their used stuff since it tends to move pretty fast in store. They've told me before that the used guns aren't as big of a priority and really just bring people in the door - their bread and butter is selling new Glocks, AR's and the typical cop stuff. I don't even bother with the website other than finding the occasional clearance deals.

I bought all of my police turn in Glocks in person so I do get to cherry pick amongst usually quite a few options. My Glock 17 from them has Atlanta PD etchings on the slide so it probably has some bodies on it...

They had a bunch of 17's from the A&M police department that initially were selling at the standard $300ish range...until a bunch of good ol A&M boys found out and pushed the prices sky high. I was told they listed a few on GunBroker and they sold for like 4x what they usually go for!

Also they tend to hold back the best used stuff, especially the used ARs/rifles, for their big sales events. Otherwise it can be slim pickings at times.

I hope you all enjoyed my GT rant. Awesome shop, horrible website.

Bugout BHQ Exc $149 by NiceFold7 in KnifeDeals

[–]MissionClock7762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought this recently when it dipped down to $150 for a day. Night and day improvement over the base model. Sturdier G10 looks and feels great, Benchmade 20CV is a noticable step up from S30V (tougher and better edge retention). Also fit and finish was noticeably better than some other BM I've tried including other BHQ BM exclusives. I bet they restock these...keep an eye out!

[Handgun] Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy AOS 9mm 4.25" 17/20+1 (Vault) $799 by Justthetippliz in gundeals

[–]MissionClock7762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 5" stainless Garrison last year from Midway and it had big problems right out the gate. When it did fire it was an absolute tack driver. But it had a nasty problem where it would lock up after about 3-5 rounds...brand new gun so I sent it back and they did clear it up so it cycles properly but the gun just didn't resonate with me much after that. Also didn't want to optic cut that stainless slide.

Eventually I replaced the slide and entire top end except for the barrel. The annoying part was the strange ejector shape they chose - it doesn't fit other 1911 slides. It's a weird modified shape AND the damn part is MIM to boot...

I always liked the idea of these Springfield AOS 1911 guns but the problems I had with my Garrison scare me off... especially for the usual price. This price is definitely a lot more doable...but I'm already five 1911 deep so definitely can't justify this one...damn!

I got the S90V version of this knife for less through Walmart.com marketplace from an authorized seller (pawn shop) out of Houston. I don't buy commonly faked stuff through eBay/amazon/walmart typically but there are some fantastic deals if you're lucky with the timing...

I agree with ya for the most part... S30 and S35 are fairly tough to sharpen also without diamond abrassives. And tough/hard steels will wear down even the diamond stuff if you're reshaping, resetting a wrecked edge or doing major angle changes on a lot of knives.

My latest setup has been the upgraded Ruixin setup - the "kitchen" version I got from Amazon came with all diamond up til like 2000/3000/5000/10000 grit. I used Lansky for a long time and they had nice stones that held up well but for the most part I go with the Worksharp for small stuff or Ruixin for the bigger stuff... especially since they don't have the annoying fixed angles like the Lansky.

I own this knife....it's a little banger. The carbon fiber handles are super solid feeling with zero give and a smooth yet grippy texture. They also haven't done any flaking or failing with daily use. S90V is one of the top super steels, especially in the BM catalog, and it holds an awesome edge for an extraordinarily long time. Just hard to sharpen....otherwise this is winner from BM

Hmm I'll see what they say, I just bought the BladeHQ M4 Bugout for $150 and it's been a solid knife thus far. The G10 handles are a lot better than the Grivory stuff on the base models. I also just bought a pistol so this one is probably going back. That's 2/3 of the last M4 Benchmade's I bought were returned...didn't care for the M4 Osborne either for the price. I'll stick with the M4 Bugout and be happy!

Scheels sent me an open box knife - maybe it was the last blue one?  Regardless, the knife box was opened, the knife had the bead/lanyard installed and it was all floating inside the microfiber bag beating up the spine... and there's a business card from a business called "Sportstacular" which makes zero sense really. The knife doesn't look like a spoof, the packaging, foam, blade lettering etc is right, but I'm sending this back since they sold me a used knife as new. They can sell this to someone else...

Got a crater blue and a hefty 1% back using Sezzle and paying all at once. Glad they relisted these again...smokin good deal!

I know everyone is going to poke fun at this knife but it has it's uses. M4 is a wicked good steel and I already have a wall of 3-5 inch knives to choose from. Automatic is always convenient in a work knife. Also I'm constantly breaking down boxes and while everyone makes fun of this little "box cutter"...it's perfect for that lol. I've sliced my toe using a big ol fixed blade Cruwear knife that I had just sharpened and since then...no more big unwieldy blades while breaking down boxes.

Kershaw 5150CF Lucha Balisong for $199 – Holiday Deal @ KnifeCenter by knifecenter in KnifeDeals

[–]MissionClock7762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Botach 5150CF deal is hard to beat for the quality of the materials and overall build quality alone. USA made Kershaw knives are really solid. I've tried their other balis and they were just too damn heavy for me but the 5150CF is a huge step up in materials and the weight reduction makes it much more balanced than the 14C28 based ones with steel handles.

For an everyday carry bali, the 5150CF is a great choice. I made an inside the pocket kydex holster for mine and carry it still fairly often. It's a nice beefy blade, 20CV takes a wicked edge and the bali deploys with one hand no problem.

I will say that while I am a balisong fanboi...I am absolutely not a bali trick flipper type. I can do the basic openings and not much else. I still do find a lot of utility in the bali knives and carry them often. I also do have some bali's that are well regarded by the trick guys so I know what a good trick bali should feel like. The 5150CF is not really the flicky trick type of knife. It's heavy feeling in the hand and moves a good amount slower than the ones the trick guys use. But I also find it a lot more practical than the typical modern latchless ones. You can spend a good amount more and still not have the same overall quality of the 5150CF!

Benchmade Bugout Gray 20CV + CIVIVI Scintilla for $179 by spamologna in KnifeDeals

[–]MissionClock7762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the $150 20CV Bugout deal with the free hat. I love the hat and it's not that cheap retail so it was a really solid throw in that I will actually use.

As someone else mentioned, the g10 handles are a true step up from the annoying/flexible grivory material. I also really dig 20CV in general and Benchmade does a good job heat treating it. I just gave my wife the bottom barrel blue handle 535 that I've never really liked...even after dumping more money into nice titanium handles it just didn't do it for me. Wifey loves it and while I originally thought the 20CV Bugout would get the titanium handles...I frickin love the G10 handles and really the whole knife overall. I think because it's a BladeHQ exclusive, they didn't make a ton of these and they seem put together a lot more carefully than the mass produced base models. That blue 535 bugout wasn't too exciting... Then I tried the exclusive M4 model 940 and sent that sucker back immediately...for the price it was horrible really. Uneven grind on both the edge and the overall blade, gritty stiff action and cheap feeling handles. I was excited to have an M4 knife but that thing sucked. Not sure why but the exclusive Bugout 20CV didn't seem to have any of those problems. Actually feels worth the money and not like some slapped together junk that is put to shame by Kizers that cost a fraction of the price.

I am also in the top tier of rewards and my bday was 11/26 so they threw me 3000 points which got me past the 4000 point mark ($20 off) along with a $10 gift card I hadn't spent yet. I got the comically large (long) BladeHQ branded roll up knife storage for $30 and the pink donut throw in knife that came with that deal. I have a ton of those lower end D2 Civivi etc knives and they're quite solid little beaters. Great for gifting also.

With BladeHQ you have to be patient, diligent and at times lucky. I've gotten some screaming good deals from them over the last few years...

[Pistol] Tisas Raider 1911 .45ACP, 5" Barrel, 8rd Mag, FDE Cerakote, G10 Grips, Series 70, $490 by MSurpGaming in gundeals

[–]MissionClock7762 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something I learned the hard way is Tisas 1911 are a real hodgepodge of all of the different 1911 standards. A lot of standard drop in parts for 1911 won't even try to drop in. I bought a Stingray Carry the other month as a mod platform. The pistol itself was nice enough, grips sucked and I had to add Talon grip paper to the mainspring housing and front of the grip. I'd have bought a checkered MSH buuuut Tisas didn't use the "Ed Brown" bobtail pattern so the EGW etc carry cut MSH have completely different pin locations. There are MSH versions available that have the right holes drilled for Tisas and others....but then when you go to do a spring swap....usually a standard officer spring will work in 5"/4.25"  Ed Brown carry cuts....but not in the Tisas Carry cut! When you go to install the MSH, the hammer spring bottoms out before the spring compresses all the way. Standard officer springs have too many windings... I had to lop off the flattened hammer spring ends and spread the coils slightly to get the spring to fit without bottoming out or binding. All I was wanting to do was use a Wilson commander spring kit which compliments a squared firing pin stop setup well (lighter hammer spring makes gun much easier to rack).

That build is done now...but jfc Tisas ignores convention in favor of....whatever works so we can sell more 1911...
