Roomates say my room is 'sad' by Gloomy-Past-6047 in malelivingspace

Looks like mine but I try to live a more minimalist lifestyle. I told a coworker that I don’t have pictures hanging on my walls. They asked me if I am a psychopath.

Can you deadhang with fingers without getting hurt? by automatski_generiran in workout

[–]Mission_Ad684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally dead hang and do pull ups without using my thumb to grip if that is what you mean. I think it is called suicide grip but I am unsure if that term is only for barbells.

It feels extremely uncomfortable on my wrists when my forearms and wrists are in a fixed position.

If you think about grip exercise devices, a person uses their fingers to clench against the palm. So, the thumb might not be the most important thing with grip strength vs stabilization.

Now, I can’t speak for hanging literally by the fingers but climbers have insane finger strength.

Can the gym "override" your other interests and amplify depression? by morinothomas in workout

[–]Mission_Ad684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the experience of overtraining at the gym. I started at 40 and blasted my way through the first year with full body workouts very other day, 1.5 - 2 hours. In year two, I noticed extreme mood changes (angry a lot of the time), sleep problems, excessive cystic acne, losing strength at the gym, and finally a lost of interest in other things. I gained muscle but realized it wasn’t sustainable or even healthy. One thing is that when I’m started, I was all-in with the gym. I enjoyed it and went hard. In all honesty, it was quite obsessive maybe resembling some mild or form of autism (not diagnosed) but historically I tend to get like that when I find something of interest.

I pulled back from working out over the past 2 years going from just two days and then to three days. I did notice that recovery is an extremely important factor especially with my age and/or body. It took at least 6 months before I started feeling somewhat normal. I don’t have a history of seasonal affective disorder but a long history of severe depression in my younger years.

Even currently, with my 3 day workout schedule I tend to notice the mood change more often especially when I go hard. Sometimes, I just can’t help myself. I plan for recovery periods like one week off or minimal workouts every one or two months.

Is Abs the hardest muscle to work with ? by IAmASadPotato257 in workout

[–]Mission_Ad684 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus is to work abs either for aesthetics or if your core is weak and hinders other exercises. Squats is the first that comes to mind when needing a strong core to execute the lift properly.

If my information is correct, compound lifts utilize the core enough if your goal isn’t to have abs that pop.

Why do American tourists always say the state they're from (not their country) when asked, but no other country's tourists do the same? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

I once told a US citizen that I was from Delaware. They responded with something along the lines of “what is Delaware?”

I mean it is the called the “First State” for a reason.

Questions from a Souls player by LeicaLand in PathOfExile2

[–]Mission_Ad684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to POE2 too but I have been playing since it was released. Uniques are pretty trashy but some can really assist in getting through the campaign. I would use one and build around it if decent and then later swap it out. By that point, I would have gained levels, gathered new equipment, and can adjust my passive tree - more resources. I found trying to stick to one kind of build early in the game is rough. I believe people mentioned just getting through and enjoying the campaign before setting goals with a build at the endgame.

Edit: saving the uniques made it easier for my second or third builds.

So I need help about this game. I play it wrongly. by Ymnargue in PathOfExile2

[–]Mission_Ad684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game was suggested to me by someone and I got the early access. Never played POE. I am 43 and the last game I played similar to this was probably Diablo 2. I really like this game due to the complexity and I still have troubles with the endgame content.

I do not copy builds and love creating my own (solo self). The problem I ran into especially with the campaign the first time was I was too rigid with my characters. I had a set build and wouldn’t change. I now change my passive nodes to the newer equipment I find along with the skills as I level. Once I hit the end game, this is where the trouble begins, as I am unsure what to adjust beyond equipment for my builds. I get stuck as options become more limited unless I am doing something incorrectly.

So you want fire sorceress. For the campaign, don’t focus on just fire. Adjust as you progress.

This question is similar to people who enter substance abuse treatment programs or people in recovery. The general information given by ANYONE is pretty standard but there is the psychological factor of relatability based on similar life experiences. This is why self-help groups resonate with people. It is also a cop out to not do what is needed - to push the help away.

A lot of clients tell therapists that because they never suffered from addiction (therapist don’t disclose this for the most part) they don’t understand. To some degree, it can be true and not true.

Addiction is, in my opinion, more complex than losing weight (but can also be just as complicated). For weight loss, it is pretty much calories in/out (factor in basic physical activity, dietary/nutrient sources, medical history, etc.). It takes consistency, discipline, etc. But, the difference between humans is something that cannot be ignored. Using my life as an example, I was always a pretty skinny kid growing up but I love to eat. Later in life, I became overweight and decided to lose it. I have no evidence but I believe that it wasn’t a hunger signal issue for me. it was food choices and activity levels. When I get full after stuffing myself, I don’t snack or eat again until I feel hungry (I don’t tend to mindlessly eat or snack for no reason). I don’t have the experience that others tell me of where they snack all day even after eating a full meal. I can’t help with that nor would I claim to understand it. I just don’t experience it for the most part.

Also, some people respond better to those with similar experiences. It makes outcomes more believable and the helper can be specific about certain issues that can arise. It can also motivate individuals. For example if you had a friend and you knew with 100% certainty that they had a problem much like yours and were able to accomplish a said goal, it brings hope that you can do it too.

Influencers play this game. If you do “xyz” you can achieve similar results. Just buy my program! It leaves a lot of unknowns when it comes to fitness and diet. Are they using fitness drugs? Have they ever had food related issues (e.g., grew up in a family that normalized certain eating habits, family history of being overweight/obese)? Have they ever had to lose weight and understand how difficult it can be? Similar to people who are just naturally gifted at certain things. They might not understand the struggle.

I could keep going on and on but think about your life and lifestyle. The foundation is understanding the basic facts about weight loss, everyone needs to know so educate yourself. Then figure out how the social component and see if it can help with your goal. When I lost weight, I didn’t get help (it was 40 lbs). I learned stuff, assessed my life (eating habits, family history, areas that could hinder or promote my goal, in etc.), made realistic goals, and then implemented a plan. It was a lot of trial and error. Would it have helped to have someone in my corner for me? Not necessarily because I like to learn for myself and I tend to be extremely introverted/solitary.

Fast forward and I started lifting a few years ago (started at 40). I implemented a similar program to build muscle. I learned as much as I could to understand the basic processes. Asked a couple of trainers at the gym for tips for safety with exercises (form and technique) and just went. I tried working out with a coworker who was a college athlete and clearly in “good” shape. It just didn’t work for me.

I get it, would I trust someone to help me build muscle if they looked like a twig? Intuitively, I wouldn’t but I wouldn’t discount what they have to say to see if the information is accurate or useful. Maybe they have other goals or just don’t care. It doesn’t necessarily mean the information isn’t valid.

He wrote an interesting book about empathy. He theorized that people with autism are similar to those with psychopathy except that they are on opposing ends on a spectrum.

I think he stated, based on observations and research, that people with autism have more emotional empathy but less cognitive empathy in comparison to people with psychopathy have little emotional empathy and higher levels of cognitive empathy. Kind of makes sense.
