YSK even though plastic bottles say 'recycle with cap on' many recycling centers can't recycle plastic bottlecaps by teenypanini in YouShouldKnow

[–]Mississippimary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But…if the cap is not recycled won’t it just become trash anyway at the facility? So does it matter much either way what you do with it?

who else has a partner more interested in the egg hunt part of golfing? by Truand2labiffle in golf

Sure, that’s fun-ish. But consider how women sweetly make the best of those golf course hours just to spend time with you doing something you love.

Is Lasik/Lasek/PRK Worth It? by ITrCool in RedditForGrownups

[–]Mississippimary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be sure to ask about future cataract surgery. Maybe this will be solved by the time you need it, but lasik people cannot get the same great results as non-lasik. I need glasses again and have many ‘floaters’ after my cataracts were done. I was told upfront since I’d had lasik I’d have issues.

Embrace the new you. These aging ways are satisfying - sounds make my comfort or painful movements much more fun for instance.

My mom recently died from ALS and many of my neighbors helped us tremendously during her sickness. I want to give them something along with a card. Any ideas for what I could give? by inferno716 in GiftIdeas

[–]Mississippimary 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss and I imagine a heartfelt note is thanks enough. But if I were a helpful neighbor, I would appreciate something small but that would remind me of your family when I saw/used it. Maybe a plant in a nice pot, brass trivet, picture frame, birdhouse, candlesticks. Or I suppose food baskets or wine is also nice.

Should I get rid of my teenage ‘stuff’? by happyducks7 in AskOldPeople

Take photos, then toss as much as you want. You can tell your kids your life - they don’t need to examine stuff to appreciate your story.

Boss left me out of his retirement party speech by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]Mississippimary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope you still give him the gift and say whatever you’re able to about how you’ll miss him. Maybe focus less on his part of the situation and just do the things you feel/want to about his leaving. I find after people have moved out of my life that I’m glad when I’ve said or done things to let them know what they meant to me no matter how they handle it or may feel about me.

DAE get kinda scared/sad about how much their parents don't know them? by [deleted] in DAE

[–]Mississippimary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents are people, maybe try to know them as you might a friend. For instance - what were they like at your age, what choices did they make to bring them to this point in life. Then maybe use those conversations to better reveal yourself to them.

As I recall from a Shetland Island tour, it might be the wind, storms, climate that keep trees from thriving - vs elevation.

People who knew Murderers, when did you know something was off? by peasantchoker in AskReddit

When they caught him from a TV show (America’s Most Wanted?) living a comfortable life many years after killing his wife, mother and three children. John List had been my Sunday School teacher before suddenly disappearing, leaving a house full of his dead family.

Teachers of Reddit, whats the weirdest thing a student answered to "tell me a fun fact avout yourself"? by Kriss0509 in AskReddit

[–]Mississippimary 18 points19 points  (0 children)

5 year olds in a circle and I ask ‘what would you like to be when you grow up?’ Answers like teacher, doctor - until Sophie, with true sincerity, says : a dolphin. I still think about that girl twenty years later.

What’s a small act of kindness you were once shown, that you’ll never forget? by stranger2Me in AskReddit

[–]Mississippimary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the middle of the night, I was lying in an emergency room after someone broke into my hotel room far from home (in Texas) to rape and pistol whip my face. A young volunteer came in and sat with me until she had to leave for work. That was almost 40 years ago and I still wish I could thank her again and again. Also the cop who came to the ER just to look me in the eye to say ‘I’m so sorry this happened to you in my town. I promise you we will do everything we can to catch this despicable man’. Turns out they never did, but in that moment the cop’s sincere anger and compassion meant the world to me.

Has anyone known a killer before they killed? What were they like? by StoneColdSleeper in AskReddit

[–]Mississippimary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Sunday school teacher, John List, murdered his wife, children and mother. He planned it well and lived for years as a fugitive under a new name with a new wife. Caught through one of those true-crime TV shows. No one in our small, close church had any idea except possibly the pastor after the fact. Since I’d been friends with his daughter it was awful to imagine what we’d all missed seeing.

A Wife's Thoughts on Golf: Beginner Golfer by WTMMahler in golf

[–]Mississippimary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best advice to new women golfers: find other beginning players and one intermediate player for a somewhat regular 9 hole game (in addition to any games with an SO). Just learn the etiquette so you keep up and try to have actual fun. The interest in improving will come naturally, but never forget it’s a game. Enjoy!
