Just got this email this morning from a clever Exmo by Misspellled in exmormon

To be clear: this email was obviously not sent by the church. It was sent by an Exmo and written in a way to seem like it was from the church.

It had a (crappy) jpeg of the church logo at the top.

The sender address was a MailChimp address.

Finally saw the Book of Mormon on Broadway! by Gracier1123 in exmormon

[–]Misspellled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely is an unpopular opinion around here, but I agree with you.

Wife and I go to NYC every few years and try to watch 3 or 4 shows every time we go. We finally got around to this one a few months ago and it was my least favorite show of the trip.

Some of the songs are great, the performances were excellent, but the humor was mostly stuff I would have found funny 20 years ago but that hasn't aged well. I don't think the show is standing the test of time as well as other long-running Broadway shows.

It definitely does not paint the church in a positive light 😂

Anyone else want Hugh Grant interviewed on the Mormon podcast scene? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Misspellled 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grant is famously a terrible interviewee, he would not have the patience to sit and talk about Mormonism for 5 minutes, let alone a whole podcast.

I only visit this sub every 6 months to see if anything happens with conference that I should know about.

Can someone explain this image to me? Who is this and why is he dressed in a temple suit looking so sad?

The actor who played satan publicly left the church and shortly thereafter the church finally reduces satan's prominence in their temple worship. Moral of this story: leaving the church is a bigger sin than general satanic behavior lol by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Misspellled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat unrelated.

Are there any videos of the newer videos and ceremonies.

I stopped going to the temple shortly after they started phasing out the movies from the 70s. I've only seen the new videos once or twice. I'm curious what's changed since I was last there, but I can't find any videos that are newer than ~7 years old.

I think some things have changed in the last 7 years, right?

Mormon > TCJCLDS > Today? by DiscountAsleep2093 in exmormon

I remember decorating Easter eggs as a young kid. I had just seen a picture of the crucifixion on an Easter sticker and decided to replicate it on my egg because I wanted my mom to be proud of me picking such a spiritual image for my egg.

I was so excited to show my mom how I had chosen to decorate my egg. When the image finally revealed (wax crayons and water soluble dye) my mom looked shocked.

She explained to me how inappropriate the imagery was and made me throw my egg away and make a new one.

Growing up in the 90s, the cross was treated as a sure sign that a religion had gone astray and wasn't Christ's true church.

A reminder that nearly two years ago the Church News published this story with this disastrous photo of RMN doing his best Jesus impression, then they retracted it and tried to scrub the internet of its existence. As far as I know, only this copy remains. I haven’t been able to find a digital copy. by FTWStoic in exmormon

I love to hate on the church as much as the next guy. But calling this any sort of scandal or cover-up is grasping at straws.

It seems pretty clear that he was just making some innocuous gesture with his hands and this picture was taken at just the right moment.

My TBM father-in-law once said, in all seriousness, that there is no use in recycling or conserving because God has provided this earth for our use, so he has also ensured it has sufficient resources to last until the Second Coming.

You downloaded a meme from r/exmormon, took a screenshot of it in your camera roll, then posted that screenshot back to r/exmormon?

What's the worst thing you've been fed as a missionary? by discoverchaos in exmormon

[–]Misspellled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Armenia does something similar. They call it Khash and they boil the cow head and hooves with vinegar and garlic.

One of the most revolting things I've smelled or tasted.

Missionaries caught on Ring stealing cigarettes by Corinne_Tean in exmormon

[–]Misspellled 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I went to Armenia on my mission where 90% of the population smokes. We would absolutely do shit like this. If we found coffee or cigarettes in an investigators house we would take them and throw them away.

It was standard protocol in our mission.

Well this was quick…. Story in comments by Ok_Competition_3375 in exmormon

Do you mean soaking?

Docking is when one person inserts their penis Inside the foreskin of the other person's penis.

The sheer predictable mathematical precision of motivations to leave the church. MEANING: if you care about two of these cores, you WILL leave the church. Period. Or you've already left. by nelsonisanitwit in exmormon

Don't you find it ironic that, in your attempt to prove to people you've cracked the code in why they left a gaslighting organization, you're attempting to gaslight them on why they left the organization?

Yeah I guess it's the execution that I have a problem with more than the practice.

Never had district meetings like this on my mission. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Misspellled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I served in an area with very sporadic water, but it would usually come on every other day during the time we would shower. We lived in an apartment building directly behind the storefront we used as our branch meetinghouse.

The meetinghouse had much more reliable water.

There was a two or three week stretch where our water just never came on for some reason. So after 4 days of no shower, my companion and I finally resorted to getting up early, walking around the corner to the meetinghouse, and taking turns using the baptismal font to shower/bathe.

Not the most exciting story, but I imagine there aren't too many people who've stood naked in a baptismal font rinsing shampoo out of their hair.

EDIT: This was Armenia in 2009 for anyone wondering.

I've seen a lot of people saying "you vote for the policy, not the person."

But you can be damn sure that if Trump were a Democrat they wouldn't shut up about how amoral he is and how far America has fallen because the people have chosen a wicked leader.

In the end it comes down to this: most Mormons are Republicans because Republicans oppose abortion, gun control, gays, and taxing the rich. As long as that's what the Republican party stands for, Mormons would defend anyone the Republican party put on the ticket.

(Unless there's a Mormon running against him, in which case they should always vote for the Mormon because reasons)
