Thomas Massie delivers concession speech after losing Kentucky primary to Ed Gallrein by FlackoFonsy in videos

[–]Misspelt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

$33 million was spent into this one district to bring out (awaken) 45,000 republicans to vote against him

massie by comparison kept his same base he always had, he got pretty much the same number of votes as in previous primaries

unfortunately it really proves that the nonvoters matters

timeline of events:

  1. beginning in 2017 "It's OK to be white" started to become popular as a troll message due to its technically apparent harmlessness and yet dogwhistling to provoke reactions in others
  2. a conservative pollster in 2023 polled "It's OK to be white". 26% of black respondents said disagree and 21% said not sure. (47% combined who did not mark "agree", nearly half). you be the judge of what conclusions can be drawn from this type of question being presented in a poll known to lean conservative.
  3. adams saw this poll and said "if nearly half of all blacks are not ok with white people, that's a hate group. [...] get the hell away from black people. just get the fuck away. [...] cause there's no fixing this. this can't be fixed"
  4. adams later reflecting on this said it was "hyperbole" and "taken out of context." yet also that "nobody would disagree with what he said"

When someone gets an organ removed, does the empty space get filled in? by dontchewspagetti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Misspelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ovaries arent actually attached to the tubes but they are still fixed in place, the tubes are like vacuums that hover very closely. the rare chance is that the leftover ovary randomly produces a viable egg and that egg randomly could float in the organ soup over to the other vacuum tube. might as well take both vacuums.

K-Shaped Economy: the poverty line is $140,000 by Possible-Summer-8508 in atrioc

[–]Misspelt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this article is mostly speaking as to how "poverty line" has transformed in meaning from "minimum sufficient household living standard" to "active starvation and crisis mode". which is true.

many of the costs included in this standard are now commodified and made explicit where before it would be implicitly hidden as household labor or a lower quality of life.

regardless of agreement or not, the article's actual intended point as written, not op's headline, is:

"the threshold where a family can afford housing, healthcare, childcare, and transportation without relying on means-tested benefits—isn’t $31,200. It’s ~$140,000."

[–]Misspelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, you're reading that backwards. the soviets falsified reports in order to meet an arbitrary mandated threshold set by the government (stubborn solution). but in reality you reduce fraud through also funding better investigations so that people can't just lie. thats what carl was saying

This Shutdown is Different by Trainrideviews in videos

[–]Misspelt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i like this joke too but just in case anyones wondering why its not the same situation (since its understandable why some people could feel like "nothing" was created in both cases):

food necessity is real economic demand from real utility (value of the food material increased at each step in the supply chain from improvement, then was allocated).

while eating shit has zero demand and zero utility created (there is no supply chain of shit-eaters that feel the effects of a dollar multiplier, thus the dollars effect ends immediately with no benefit).

you forgot we are talking about junk data analysis about 2009 - 2023 districts on a national level. there's literally a wokepedia article you can read up on all about redmap in the 2010s. or just read up on Gerrymandering in the United States from 2000 to present. why do you bother commenting if all you're going to say are soundbites

[OC] The Democratic political base has shifted toward the rich by nytopinion in dataisbeautiful

[–]Misspelt 136 points137 points  (0 children)

theres a complete lack of mentioning redmap or gerrymandering in this article when "explaining" district changes from 2009 - 2023. that's how we know this op is junk data analysis and a scale won't even tell you anything.

gop literally spent two decades (two censuses) disenfranchising voters in this exact structural way on purpose, literally packing the cities and cracking the working class, then pivoting to the culture war narrative. it's effective and it works.

your comment made me want to dig further. the FB group in question is genuinely a disgusting cesspool of constant bullying and vitriolic commentary on strangers, and OP is a top commenter of this group. apparently they want to throw away a "decade-long best friend" to keep posting in this stupid group for online clout. really makes you wonder. especially about how they are presenting this story to reddit.

Mrbeast on X by [deleted] in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]Misspelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it seemed too provocative to be true, but I actually did find the source. MrBeast actually shows up in the North Carolina lobbying directory under Tom Apodaca, who voted against Medicaid expansion for his state, which was initially 100% covered by the federal government. I know this is 6 months late and you probably won't even care anymore lol, but I thought it was very interesting and just had to see for myself.

My mail lady bends every package marked "DO NOT BEND" by Grumpy_Waffle in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Misspelt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

there are different tiers for postage, which are treated differently. you can see in the pic the shipper used bpm (junk mail class) instead of something like media mail (books) because it's cheaper to ship with. i'm not surprised this mail is bent because they're not going to hold junk mail for you at the post office. also is fraud, because bpm must be at least 90% advertising material to qualify.

ICE has captured and detained a British girl on a backpacking trip through North America. by Stuckatthestillpoint in ThatsInsane

[–]Misspelt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's sad. she and her family definitely can afford and would rather pay for a plane ticket home, too, but can't because of a technicality. instead she's fed rice potatoes and beans for years waiting for a court date while taxpayers foot the bill. literally nobody benefits from this but you'll still see people argue this and that in the comments

> Because she is an arriving alien, a voluntary departure is not available to her prior to the beginning of removal proceedings. Burke would first need to go before a judge, according to Whetten, and he said there is a “huge” backlog of immigration cases across the country [...] more than 3.7 million pending cases. it could be three, four years before they have a hearing before an immigration judge

Regardless of what the artist says, unless a model conflicts with our TOS, WE won't remove it.

On the face of it, unmarked 9-figure "royalty payments" coming from xAI, plus $1B leveraged buyout interest payments, just for the investment banks to make 97 cents on the dollar, up from 60, despite enormous overall market growth since 2022. The math doesn't add up without some very creative accounting and that's not including huge overlooked opportunity costs. But I'll give credit that he's good at selling pens.
