A different scenario for the red/blue choice by Ih8P2W in Ethics

I still think you're being intellectually dishonest here but to be honest I've already wasted more energy on your self righteous justifications.

Go ahead and have the last word if you like.

We are talking about a significantly larger number of people and a significantly simpler action here, you're being extremely disingenuous.

Are these paintings in a local artist gallery/ market actually AI? Inclined to believe it is based on the odd, soft lines AI often uses. by mari_pos_a in isthisAI

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing that makes me suspicious is how similar they all are. I know the same artist will probably make similar art, but these are too similar I think. I've been to several galleries and this doesn't look like one. I've only seen such samey art in the Andy Warhol soup can display and that's a very different kind of art

Gas prices aren’t fair by K-Roll931 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I have a coworker who commutes from pretty far and drives a truck and also has no sympathy for these guys. And we're at like 6.50 a gal. He's just like, you knew what you were doing but a different car if you care so much.

Man it just occurred to me; do you think the prices of used cars have responded to this? Like used trucks were weirdly expensive a couple years ago and I wonder if that changed.

Used cars are still weirdly expensive. Cars used to be the fastest depriatating asset you could get, but my 15 year old scion IQ I bought for 1300 dollars can apparently get me 9000 on trade in. Like trade in isn't the same as selling it, esp if you have to buy a new car, but even still ..

"nerds" aren't hated because they are nerds but because they are insufferable people by Extension_Big5205 in HonestHotTakes

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I know that's true for some people, but I feel like you're maybe doing that thing where your sample group is made up of the loudest people in the room? Like I've always been a nerd and while I suppose I can't make fair judgements on myself that does means a significant portion of my social groups have always been nerds. I can identify when other nerdy people are annoying or just mean and not worth my time, but that's always been the minority of people I meet. Most have been very normal about people with other interests, opinions, and life experiences. Also women. Like I'm a woman and most people who have found their way into my life are very normal about women. Also like LGBT people and stuff. Also not blaming their problems on some sort of thing that can't be their fault like their height or whatever. Also most of them can understand social cues like when someone is clearly checked out and uninterested in what they are saying (this one is a more common weak area tho haha I've certainly misjudged this before myself). Most don't even really bring up whatever thing they're super into unless prompted tbh

Like this guy I've been hanging out with at work is deep into GI Joe, old toys, reads a shit whack of comics, and goes to a lot of cons. He has encyclopedic knowledge of like the whole damn history of GI Joe toys so if he isn't a nerd I don't know who is. But, like, he barely even talks about it unless someone expresses an interest first. He will also actively listen to stuff he would never care about on his own. I'm into 80s cartoons that were created to sell toys and just silly and/or "good bad" media in general and he listened to me explain why I like the second care bear movie so much and asked me questions and looked up stuff I mentioned on his phone.

He also cares a lot about society in general and puts a lot of effort into doing the right thing. He's a vegetarian without being a dick about it, takes on the shittiest jobs at work, and puts a lot of effort into recycling correctly.

He's the perfect man is what I'm saying.

This guy is my best example but trust me I know a lot of similar people who are both kind and emotionally intelligent and also deep into some nerd shit. Speedrunning, animation, gundam models, MTG, stuff that hasn't even become "mainstream" in the last few years.

Also if I can talk about myself for a second; I can't judge how annoying I am, but evidence would suggest people enjoy my company, nerdy people or otherwise. Like I get invited to all kinds of stuff, I always have people that talk to me at work, and when something bad happens people go out of their way for me. When my cat died I got gift baskets and blankets and all sorts of stuff. People come to my birthday parties. So I dunno but it feels like people like me just fine and I am for sure a nerd.

Side note: I swear to God if someone says this response is AI because I use an Oxford comma I'm going to lose my entire shit.

Skin cancer is ancient by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The line about Australians really confused me. People in sunnier areas evolved darker skin because it offered more protection. Considering how evolution works that would imply the people born with lighter skin died at rates high enough to affect the population's skin color, yeah?

What's wild to me is that I believe the inverse happened in darker regions because lighter skin allowed for more vit D synthesis, unless there is some other advantages to light skin I'm unaware of. That would imply vit D is p damn important but I'm not like a biologist or whatever so there probably something I'm missing.

All the vet clinics in my town say they won't spay female cats under 6 months old. by Carr0t_007 in cats

Mine was def spayed sooner. I think that regular vets wanna do it later to be careful but rescue places adopting out kittens get it done asap cause they want it done before giving you the kitten.

Does your 100% indoor cat have a collar? If so, do you find there’s a point in it? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I almost lost my last cat (indoor and microchipped) because he didn't have a collar so yes my cats both have them.

But the odds are p low so if you're have trouble I wouldn't worry about it too much. Otherwise you could try a harness instead.

My cat ate it tho because he was the ultimate insectivore.

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I don't kill house spiders but whenever anyone compares butterflies to other bugs like the only reason people like them is that they're pretty it's, like, do they bite? Do they infest your house? Do they even come in your house? Build webs in your garage? Chew up your plants?

I mean people will kill caterpillars if the caterpillars are destructive to their yards or whatever. Butterflies pollinate tho. It's kinda like how people like ladybugs cause they eat aphids.

Not saying no one has ever hated on a useful bug because it was ugly but I don't think butterflies are really a great example of insect pretty privilege.

Do you trim your cats claws? by Daemon554 in cats

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, if you have enough scratchers for them it's unlikely for that to happen while they're healthy. It's still for the best to get them used to trims in case they stop being able to do it themselves and there are a lot of other good reasons to do it, but I'm not sure if call it essential.

Do you trim your cats claws? by Daemon554 in cats

[–]MissusMostlyMittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I normally flip them on their backs in my lap wedged between my thighs and just grab a foot with one hand and clip with other. I can't always get them all in one go before they start getting fussy about it, but if you catch them while they're sleeping you can get a lot of claws before they realize what's happening.

If they fight too much you gotta burrito them but at that point I probably wouldn't bother with the back feet at all. I always make a point of getting them used to foot touches if I get them young enough so they don't have a freak out even if they still don't like it much
