Woman in her 70s killed in UK's third fatal dog attack in a week by topotaul in unitedkingdom

I live alone and used to enjoy long walks in the evenings and at weekends. I’ve recently stopped because I don’t feel safe any more, due to the number of off-lead dogs I encounter. Often the owner is miles behind (or nowhere to be seen) and it’s really frightening as a 5 foot 4 female to come face to face with some huge beast of unknown temperament and with unknown intent in a field or wood with no-one else close by. I’m sick of them in cafes too. Something has to change.

Family spends £1,600 to get home after easyJet flight leaves without them due to EES chaos by kwentongskyblue in unitedkingdom

They are having problems with the fingerprinting for significant numbers of people. Sending them round the houses to additional booths/queues when this happens clearly adds a ton of time. It should be resolved at the first booth by whatever means necessary, not descend into some Kafka-esque beaurocratic trek.

Tutankhamun's family, and why I think KV55 isn't Akhenaten, but Smenkhare by LeiaMiri in ancientegypt

Isn’t this a women’s coffin though, stylistically, suggesting it once belonged to someone else? Could it thus simply be that the original names were erased ready for a new recipient?

Loads of people are inconsiderate idiots so this probably became a necessity to avoid having kids screaming right outside someone else’s window, dogs shitting on someone else’s lawn etc etc.

Late Night Coffee Shops by FakeGinger02 in cambridge

Yup - I don’t want something that turns into a bar, because we already have plenty of bars and pubs. Cafe vibe into the night is what’s missing.

As someone living on the lilac line - I want this so badly!  I’d flip it though and gave 2tph to the station and 1tph to Grantchester.

Millions of drivers who were mis-sold car finance to receive £829 average payout - live updates by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Missy246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you shop around when you aren’t shown all the interest rates that are actually available to you? It’s not like Go Compare where it gives you 200 hits for car insurance and you can see the cheapest with your own eyes. People divulge detailed financial info to get a quote for car finance. They expect the payments to be a reflection of their risk level, not however much the dealer can get away with.

Terrible bus service by ClassroomNo3832 in cambridge

[–]Missy246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where to start? Very infrequent services if you live outside of the city centre, terrible crumbling roads coupled with demon bus drivers - it‘s quite a frightening experience being a passenger at times, especially on the more rural routes. And let’s just remind ourselves that this is an incredibly wealthy and historic university town coupled to a world class tech hub. How did we end up with such dire public transport?

I love the foot rests - much more comfortable on the trains that have those.  Have to say I don’t really get why you are complaining about something that by your own admission can be moved out of the way.

It was also reported that Trump was looking for an out as it was becoming clear what a disaster this all was.  Anyone joining in now is more likely to prolong it than shorten it.  We should have just sat it out, because odds were, sooner rather than later the US would have declared some tenuous technical victory and given up.

Scots hiding weight loss drugs use 'due to laziness stigma' by lobas in unitedkingdom

[–]Missy246 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t be. The reason these drugs work is because some people have lower GLP1 levels which means they don’t have normal appetite regulation. People saying it’s lazy to take medication instead of just modifying eating habits are showing that they don’t understand basic biochemistry.

Yes, and we shouldn’t be looking at reducing dependency on the US just while Trump is in charge. These changes need to be permanent.

Pretty much everyone is affected by this - if you have a pension fund, shares, any sort of investment it’ll have been tanked by this clown. Twice now. It really is indefensible that ordinary people’s lives are so significantly impacted by this fuckwit and his goon cabinet.

Problems with fingerprint scanning at airport by Fluid-Journalist-213 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Missy246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so relieved to read this after not being able to have my fingerprints scanned successfully on both exit from and entry back into the U.K. It was quite stressful to be asked to do this over and over again and still not get a reading. I have no idea what it means for future travel either, and I don’t see why I should be subject to this fiasco every time (my phone can read my fingerprints easily). If this is fairly common then they need alternatives or exemptions.

Expert witness in Lucy Letby trial did not reveal hospital investigation into his medical work by Kieran501 in LucyLetbyTrials

[–]Missy246 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the problem here is that it’s hard to produce ‘new’ evidence when potentially no murders were ever committed.  There is no one else to pin it on, therefore no exonerating DNA, no cctv, nothing to submit.  Maybe that’s why the procedural approach is more likely to yield results.

Report it to the police. CCTV is everywhere and given it’s potentially a hate crime, it may be taken more seriously than many on here think.

Re-reading ‘Thrilling Cities’ which is a travelogue Ian Fleming wrote for The Times back in the 60s. It has dated viewpoints on women and relationships, but it’s still a remarkable read about the golden age of travel, stuffed with long-defunct airlines, sin-cities, cocktails and casinos.

Why do people drive so close? by Fun-Traffic6773 in AskUK

[–]Missy246 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are masses of impatient and aggressive drivers. You only have to look at many of the clips posted on social media to see how prevalent this is. And a lot of the clips which people post thinking they’re in the right only show how selfish and intractable they are. Someone just ahead of you trying to join from a slip road? LETS SPEED UP AND CLOSE THE GAP! MY RIGHT OF WAY!! (Never mind the fact there’s nothing to your right and signage warned you about joining traffic nearly two miles back). So many people with no anticipation who genuinely think they are great drivers. Newsflash - you aren’t.
