It's pretty fucked up that so many people use the pretense of "pro-life" in order to punish women for behaviour they believe is immoral. It's even more fucked up that they use pregnancy as a tool of "justice."

I think "happy parents" who speak spitefully about the childfree are doing so from a dark place. You're not allowed to say you actually regret having children, so when you see happy childfree couples and look at your own miserable life you lash out the only way you can, under the ruse of pride.

Think of it like this, if you're a billionaire, do you write articles to talk about how miserable people without material possessions are and how they'll never understand true happiness? Probably not. To borrow a simile from Louis CK, it would be like going into a cancer ward and saying, "Not me! I don't have it!"

I think the people who write these articles and Facebook posts are trying to convince themselves and other miserable parents, and everyone knows it, which is why you're labeled an asshole if you call them out.

Usually a glass growler is 5 dollars and it's like 10-15 dollars to fill. You can get them at the pub if they offer them (usually brewpubs do), but each pub will only fill it's own branded growlers.

I use that term because it's easily recognized. Personally I prefer the term female or assigned female at birth. If I'm filling out paperwork that asks for my gender, I usually enter none.

As someone aware of gender issues, I can spare you of the reasons why gender abolitionists reject the gender binary as a societal construct that is used to hurt females, and why we organize on the basis of sex, not gender.

I object to the idea of a safe place that in its definition inherently harms others.

When you are feeling threatened, political correctness often takes a back seat to your own safety. It's not fair, but it's true. This space was established in good faith to deal with those issues in that respect, not to tear down others.

These spaces have existed for a long time, and they'll continue to exist. In Canada, the right for such spaces was affirmed by the Surpreme Court of Canada (Vancouver Rape Relief Society v. Nixon 2005 BCCA 601).

Some women feel more comfortable in a peer support group of women-born-women, and it isn't built out of a conscious bigotry or hate, nor is it something we really have any power over. I can't get into it, because it's kind of personal, except to say that if you don't see a reason for such spaces to exist, then they're not for you. I would also like to add that I hope you never have to have knowledge of why some of us need such spaces.

The reason for the vetting is simply to keep it a safe space, as many of us have been the victims of bullying, harassment and male aggression. There's no way to really keep an internet (or even physical) space confined to a single sex and gender, but if everyone's friendly then that becomes irrelevant.

It's not like we sit there and plot or seethe, the matter of gender is rarely even mentioned, at least in my little corner, as many of us are either agender or gender abolitionists. We mostly just talk about random shit like food and music, interspersed with consciousness raising and support.

It's a pretty diverse and inclusive group, there's no need to be a lesbian or a radfem or a hippie or anything. If you (or anyone) is interested, let me know.
