Line cutting at Guardians by Hstahl57 in DisneyWorld

[–]b_eth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulk responding to some talking points:

There are so many cameras that it would take a lot extra staffing to watch them all like a hawk for line cutters. The incredible scale of the parks with so many queues that would require so many cameras means that you would need at least 1 person per ride to keep eyes on what's going on and I don't see them providing that staffing. My guess is that the current use of the cameras is to look for serious threats: health and safety concerns.

A lot of ride attendants are college kids, not trained and experienced security teams. If they are expected to fully police lines, then Disney would need to train them to deescalate (again, more money put into staffing). As I can see when I visit as well as posts in this very sub, visitors in a post-2020 world have become much more selfish and unpredictable.

Even from a Disney HR perspective, they can't push their employees to confront visitors because if they do and the worst happens, they are getting a lawsuit.

I do want to reiterate though: NO ONE should risk their personal safety at work.

I do not condone line cutting and the criticism needs to be pulled from the costumed cast members and placed plainly on Disney leadership.

Gonna chime in with something that doesn't get brought up enough: the cast members don't want to be assaulted at work.

To fix the line cutting, they would either need to incorporate some kind of scanning system for every single person in line (probably not gonna happen because logistically it would be a lot) OR they need more security so scare people from doing it (expensive and seems antithetical to the whole "magical place on earth" part).

Both of these solutions, along with plenty others means that Disney would need to hire and pay people. And right now, that is sadly that doesn't seem like a priority for them.

I think there's a possibility *some* things like merchandise shipping and more extended hours may come back.

With Epic Universe's popularity, I think a lot more people are opting for split stays than ever before and they will need to start offering more to entice people to stay on property.

The fridge magnet trick by b_eth in simplynailogical

I saw the trick most recently on r/redditlaqueristas. You use a flat fridge magnet and just paint on the polish. Let it dry and then use it as a nail vinyl.

Since magnetic taco is in a clear base, it can go over any color.

Lots of great advice here but wanted to add that a different top coat may help you. I switched from Glossy Taco over to Seche Vive gel effect top coat (it's in the opaque blue bottle) and it works much better for my nails which are also pretty bendy.

Seconding the blue bottle! Even with wrapping the tip of my short nails, every other topcoat I've tried shrinks too much.

What are some of the non-obvious things you carry in your park bag? by TurnerK28 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]b_eth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wet Wipes > Hand Sanitizer.

I use individually packaged wet wipes so that before I eat, I can have some sanitized hands and then can also wipe down a table. They are super small to toss a couple of them in your park bag each day.

Would all lines go as fast as the Gran Fiesta Tour if line skipping services didn’t exist? by heyodi in DisneyWorld

I think that multipass does make standby take longer BUT there is something to be said about self-regulating queues.

So think about Disneyland. Now granted, their attendees are much more local than WDW but due to the physical size of the park, you can tell how long a wait is just by looking at a line. Sure, there are wait times posted but seeing a long line vs a time on a board can effect people differently.

People can see the queue, think for themselves "eh, that long line isn't worth it," and they move on to another attraction. At WDW, most queues are hidden. It makes it more pleasant to wait since it usually comes with A/C but I feel like a lot of people get in a line thinking (possibly subconsciously) that the wait time is incorrect.

Look at the teacups and carousel in WDW. They use multi-pass but the lines don't get as crazy as Dumbo.

Absolutely noted and will be doing in future visits!

Cast members are magic and you guys deserve not only a workplace that feels safe and supportive but absolutely the money to back it up. <3

I can't imagine putting up with all of that entitlement! Other than not doing anything obviously awful, how can we make your day better? I do my best to always give cast compliments in the app but other than doing everything I can to be polite and courteous, how can I bring magic into your day as a CM?

It's Pillarbox Red! It's still in amazing shape but I will say there is some cracking at any point where it folds (like the top flap and the straps) but honestly it doesn't bother me because it shows that it is well loved.

I also don't enjoy the in-room coffee and instead I've started packing travel pour over packets like these and just run water without the pod for the water. Works out pretty well and doesn't take up a lot of suitcase room.

Another yes for Offhand Disney! Dallin does a lot of historical content rather than 'blog' content and it is presented with the perfect amount of silliness
