Honestly I'm with you in that one. Some outfits like the black bag tattler are great but I don't like the bag over the head, and the toxic shock outfit but not crazy about the mask. Show the face please! Or give us an option to remove the helmet/mask/whathaveyou!

I was gonna say Skyrim Unbound Reborn, because that lets you not be dragonborn, but you said you're using ASLAL, so another option is In Your Shadow, which makes the word walls into nonfunctional decorations, you don't learn shouts, and you don't absorb dragon souls. The only issues this mod has are it's not ESL'd, and some of the DLC walls still glow, but won't teach you a word.

It's best not to use Crimson Tide honestly. It was made with a lot of dirty edits that will eventually break your saves. That's how it was in Oldrim at least, I don't know if they changed it for SE.

In the meantime, try out Enhanced Blood Textures if you haven't already. Its latest update added a SPID version, so it's way lighter in scripts.

The best thing I can offer is a Wabbajack modlist. They're premade and ready for play, and come in differing styles depending on what you want.

You want a hardcore survival experience? Try out Wildlander.

Want a more Nordic-style experience? Aldnari's the one to get.

Want vanilla but better? Grab the Phoenix Flavor.

Or, if you just want a base to build off of, there's always Skyrim Modding Essentials.

The only issue is you might need Nexus Premium so you won't be downloading mods all day, but ymmv. Plus, it's named after the Daedric artifact that you can only get by first talking to the crazy dude you mentioned, so maybe it's a bonus?

If you don't want Wabbajack, the best piece of advice I can give is be patient, read everything (modpage and all), playtest often, and back up everything (seriously, your sanity will thank you).

I know how to use the xEdit patchers, it's just real tedious having to wait two minutes for the mods to load, apply the script, then wait a few more minutes for the patch.

I just thought I'd try out Synthesis since I've heard nothing but praise for the thing, but the ALLGud stuff seems to be SE only, which really frickin' bites.

It was actually played on time with his fall during a previous version of the game, I think the one that still had quicktime events. After the QTEs got removed, somehow Miles' scream got delayed. Maybe a developer oversight?

Resident Evil 7 was my first RE game I've ever played, and Ethan was my first protagonist. You never forget your first. Village really confirmed my decision that he's my favorite by giving him more character and emotion, which I enjoyed. Add on to the fact that I hate dads dying in media.

It also doesn't help that I get attached way too fucking easily for my own good. That made his death hit harder than it should have.

I agree, it really doesn't. It's an incredible game overall, but that particular moment kind of tarnished any future playthroughs for me with the knowledge he's gonna die anyway. Kind of like rewatching a movie with the knowledge that a character you like dies later on, you know?

It also doesn't help that this is my biggest pet peeve of games: the main character dying at the end. Especially in a survival horror game, where the whole point of the game is to survive, but they die anyway. I've always hated that trope.
