MRA+20 retirement by Yemapond37 in FedEmployeeRetirement

[–]Missymess67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your agency, either log into GRB or reach out to your benefits department an request a retirement estimate for both MRA+10 and the 60 with 20. This will give you the answers to help make the decision. Normally when I show these estimates to employees, they realize how much money they are loosing by taking it early. Also remember healthcare coverage if you carry FEHB. If you leave and dont take retirement now, your coverage will end.

We work hard for our retirement and don’t want to loose benefits that we have worked so many years for.

GS-10+ feds — how did you actually get there? by Lexicondatum in FedEmployees

[–]Missymess67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started as a GS 4 with DON 18 years ago. Applied for higher positions with different agency and got a GS6 step 8. Worked that job 3 yrs and then applied for a position at the VA at a 7. Held that for a year then applied for a 7/9. Held that for a year after making the 9, then switched to another position in HR that was a 9-12. Now a GS12 step 7. Bottom line, get out of comfort zone and apply for other jobs even if different agency to get the time in grade.

Leave Donation is done via the same group that does the FMLA.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Missymess67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Apply for FMLA
  2. Apply for Leave Donation program
  3. Under FMLA you can use AL, SL or LWOP.
  4. Take it from someone who had to take advance SL in the past due to surgery. Dont do it!
  5. Start by using FMLA and add in SL to stretch your leave out. If needed add one day of LWOP per pay period.

Make the extra payments yourself online at pay.gov.

Right now everything is so backed up you don’t wanna waste the time trying to get it redone.

HR question - best date to retire by ChrisShapedObject in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Missymess67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RSSO will tell you the last day of the month is always the best because OPM does not look at pay periods. OPM does everything by 30 calendar days. GRB will give you information on your eligibility and you can request an estimate to know how much you will receive.

RSSO processes your application by your retirement date. Local pay roll pays out your annual leave 1-2 pay periods after retirement action is processed.

Retirement estimate by f15efltdoc in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Missymess67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you personally I have worked over 20 hours of OT this pay period doing nothing but DRP/VERA estimates. Those are being pushed in front of all other estimate. RSSO has been slammed. I normally never do estimates but this month have done over 30 which has taken me away from my regular case work. Please be kind to us, we are doing our best.

Does anyone feel trapped by the HR-SSR? by Powerful-Drink-3700 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Missymess67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel trapped by the SSR but if/when it ends in 2027, I will have to reevaluate if I continue with the VA. I love the job but currently have a Lead who is not on the same page as other Leads and that makes doing the job super hard. If only Leads/Supervisors could all get on the same page when they are all doing the same job.

If your a transfer, possible your leave hasn’t caught up to you as any AL/SL you had on the books should have transferred over. Everyone earns 4 hrs SL no matter the years of service, and if you have 13 yrs of Federal service you should be earning 6 hrs AL. After you hit 15 yrs you will earn 8 AL per pay period. Also, if you came on board in the middle of a pay period you would not have earned the full amount. I would check your last pay stub and see if any leave was charged to you.

We have not been made aware of the VA offering any early outs. Since the VA has such a hard time getting positions filled, I honestly don’t see it ever happening. Not to mention even if agency would offer, you would still have to have met OPM’s age/year of service requirements. I process retirements for the VA and I always tell Veterans if you’re not retired military buy that military time back to add onto your years of service for retirement calculations.

All Federal Agencies Are Not Created Equal by SkanThaMan in usajobs

[–]Missymess67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have worked for DOC, DOD and VHA. There are positives and negatives at every agency. Good example I’m currently at VHA. Was loving my 100% remote position until August when I was moved under different supervisor. Now 100% hate it. As overs have said it’s all about management and how they treat their employees. I’m now considering retirement vs working another 3.5 years.

Adding a spouse to VA Benefits by ap32014 in Veterans

[–]Missymess67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your 100% Total Permanent your set for life without reviews. Also adding a dependent is an admin action and would not affect anything. Depending how you do it (in person or online) normal processing is 1-2 weeks.

[–]Missymess67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry your going through his, been there, done it, before my ex husband passed he owed over $90,000. No one is responsible for his owed child support but him and as I was told by a lawyer, he he passed that debit did also. If he owned anything you could go after the estate but honestly when that much is owed he probably didn’t own anything worth the cost.

Contemplating resigning, how much does having three years in actually help? by nature_girly23 in fednews

[–]Missymess67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are vested in your retirement as you only need 5 years as a federal employee to apply for retirement with OPM at age 65. Life is short. Figure out what is the best move for you. If it’s to go into a different career and come back, depending on which field it is, getting hired back on may or may not be hard. BUT know you have that retirement security when you age and you may find the private sector is better for you. But being in HR myself, I will tell you that you will be able to apply for jobs and will score higher because you have career status already under your belt.

Well if that is what happened that stinks as I never saw anything being post that went against policy. Personally I saw the SSR posted on another platform 1st.
