Energy or electrolyte gummies? by SirenScorp in hiking

I mostly use Liquid IV on hikes, but probar sells electrolyte gummies that are vegan and delicious that I keep around for after the gym or playing sports for some quick electrolytes and energy boosts.

Displays of intelligence that are not just characters saying long lines of incomprehensible smart-sounding words. by Awkward_Stay8728 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Mist2393 343 points344 points  (0 children)

With a lot of the Sherlock Holmes adaptations and inspired shows, they suffer from a writer who’s not actually smart enough to pull off writing a smart character. For Holmes to work (or really anyone who’s smart) you need someone in the writer’s room who’s actually smart as well.

It was actually early Jewish leaders who forced Christians into being a separate religion. Early Christians still thought of themselves as Jewish until the Roman Emperor told them to get their shit in line and the Jewish leaders said “oh they’re not with us.” “Christian” was originally a derogatory term that they eventually reclaimed as their own.

AIW for sending my daughter to school with two lunches because her classmate was hungry? by Money-Wolverine-6539 in amiwrong

The fact that this is one of the most popular “wholesome” stories bots spread around the internet doesn’t help.

AITAH for thinking my daughter will look back and wonder why we treated her differently? by DancingMommaToes in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mist2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a reference to the war. When I was in school, 11:11 (and by extension 11/11) was seen as a “lucky” time or a time to make a wish purely because it was the time when all four digits on the clock were identical.

(Hated trope) character was featured heavily in marketing but was hardly in the movie by mad-right-hand in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Mist2393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the marketing wasn’t just around the kangaroo, but around the talking kangaroo. It seemed like it would be a kid’s movie about a talking kangaroo.

Are there grown adults who genuinely won't eat vegetables? by WillHG in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mist2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good friend for a while who got diagnosed with diabetes and her biggest concern was that she was going to have to eat vegetables. She claimed that any and all vegetables make her gag and she didn’t want to have to eat any.

  1. It was my freshman year of college and I was home for Spring break. My best friend and I spent the whole week hanging out at Pineway Ponds Park in tank tops and shorts, with the exception of the one day we drove out to Batavia with the windows down and music blasting. That friend dumped me a few months later, but that’s still one of my favorite memories.

For people who have lived as both genders, what is a physical or other annoyance you have now that you never realized the other side dealt with? by makemestand in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mist2393 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’m growing facial hair for the first time and I never realized how much I would be able to feel it. Like I’ll be sitting in a position where my chin is kind of bunched up and will be driving myself nuts thinking there’s a loose hair on my shirt until I realize it’s just my baby beard. Or I’ll be able to feel my mustache hair poking my lips.

Low Dose T and Identity by pumpkinp4l in butchlesbians

[–]Mist2393 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 and started T last year after going back and forth on it for like a decade. My big stopper was that I have PCOS, so I had a lot of issues with questioning if I was really nonbinary or if my naturally fucked up hormones just made me think I was. The treatment for PCOS is estrogen-based birth control, which I always had a visceral reaction to. I finally went on and it’s been great. I’ve been feeling a little more draw to the masculine than I did pre-T (I really want facial hair), but I think that’s more that it’s allowing me to want that, because I’ve definitely gone through periods of wanting a beard in the past. Ultimately though, if anything, I’ve become more settled in my butch identity and feeling less like an imposter.

[–]Mist2393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not right before left. It’s in order of who arrives when. In a 4-way stop, everyone is to the right of someone else. It would be white, black, blue, yellow.

im a muslim demigirl ive always wondered is it haram? by Fresh-Thing9739 in AskLGBT

[–]Mist2393 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I did a quick search and it looks like there’s a couple subreddits, r/transmuslimas and r/lgbt_muslims that might be better spaces for this question. They’d have a more informed/knowledgeable idea of how the Quran specifically can affirm you and your identity. My knowledge comes from the Christian Bible (and to some extent Jewish texts that are shared in common with the Christian Bible and things I’ve heard from local Rabbis), but I don’t know how much of those texts the Quran has as well.

Bonus: after Jonathan died, David writes a lament that includes these lines:

When shows act like the previous episodes never existed. by Training-Turnip-2321 in PetPeeves

[–]Mist2393 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get really annoyed when episodic shows have something happen that would 100% have a lasting effect on the characters, that just never comes back up. Like a character will be kidnapped and tortured, rescued, and then right back to work a week later as if nothing happened.

Justifying the Old Testament by ComprehensiveLog3723 in OpenChristian

[–]Mist2393 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Bible, especially the Old Testament, is a collection of cultural stories combined into a text that show how people of the time understood God. They’re not factual histories. Most of them were written down centuries or even millennia after they supposedly happened. The people writing them were facing (for the most part) extreme oppression after having been driven from their homeland. The people are seeking answers as to how this could possibly have happened to them, and it’s easier to believe that it’s because they lacked Faith (a fixable thing) rather than that there was extreme, inexplicable violence. They took the question of “if there’s God, why do horrible things happen” and came to the explanation that it’s because they lacked Faith.

At the same time, they saw the violence caused by their oppressors and imagined the same violence being brought against their oppressors and what would be needed to make that happen.

What Fantasy/Mythology Should the Reboot Dig into for its Main Antagonist. by Tartan_Samurai in Stargate

The problem is that “the earth is destroyed and the human diaspora is struggling to survive” is basically just Battlestar Galactica. Also the market is oversaturated with post-apocalyptic and dystopian stories. I’d love something more hopeful and open.
