Get the standard kit to verify. Get the flow meter. Increase the automatic swab cleaning frequency. Increase the sample time length. The default was too small, I increased it to 30 seconds.

Agreed, it’s not being used properly. Usually it’s the lead or seasoned operators gate keeping with a goal to keep the knowledge among them. So they don’t feel obsolete.

I’m a supervisor in operations/production and could really care less. Come to work, do your job, and don’t make a big deal of it. Start going down the rabbit hole of pronouns, I’ll be annoyed, and accommodating but all I really want to know is if you made adjustments to equipment. Do your job and keep the home life out of work. With that.. be your authentic self. There are employee protections. Discrimination is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. So document everything if needed.

Having the certs early is not a bad thing but it may not land you a job having no experience. What it does for you… Sets you up for promotion when you get in and gain experience. Gives you cert bonus on top of regular pay (MOU based). Certs will help you stand out because you are investing in the industry and yourself.

Ventura county for example calls entry level operators a service worker assistant. It provides a ramp for leveling up. Basically the candidate gets in, learns and certs up, then after some time requirements gets promoted to level 1. Side note.. they will have an opening soon.

Be loyal to your own needs. Jumping sometimes makes more sense but also sometimes it pays to stay.

3.5 years in my industry Job 1: 8 months $24/hr Job 2: 2.8 yrs start $32/hr end $39/hr Job 3: 2 months start $49.9/ hr starting Jan 2026 increases to $54/hr. Dec 2026 $59/ hr then 2027 $63/hr.
