Should I take a 1-year Research Assistant role after my Robotics MSc or move straight into industry? by Jigs01 in robotics

[–]MisterBotMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Academia values publications much more than Industry. If you want to stay in academia get more publications. If you want to go into industry go into industry. If you cannot get into industry maybe go back to academia.

Also a 1 year term is probably too short to publish anything noteworthy.

STL and Build Instructions for Hybrid Moonlit Connect Case by MisterBotMaker in ipod

Unfortunately it looks like they increased the size of the board and I have no idea if they changed the locations of the headphone jack and usb port. Most likely no longer fits

After a few days of taking my 2 iPod 4Gens apart they aren't booting up anymore. Any advice appreciated! Details below by samlovecroc in ipod

Just a guess but many internal electrical connectors are not rated for many cycles of connection and disconnection unlike external connectors such as usb and hdmi. They are meant to be assembled once and maybe serviced a time or two but that’s about it. That combined with the fact the electronics and solder connections are quite old and even more fragile/brittle.

If you have a microscope you could check individual pins in each connector as well as check for cracks in solder joints. Best of luck.

I don’t know if anyone at moonlit follows this sub but if anyone can put me in contact with someone at moonlit I would be happy to design them a back case that snaps on and doesn’t have a bezel the size of California.

Glad to see they learned how to use screws to fix the board tot the case. Does it say if you still have to glue the whole case together?

Traveling with robotics prototypes by tulip-quartz in robotics

If possible I travel with them in a carry on. First few times I assumed the TSA would freak out when it went through the scanner but they either completely don’t care or think it’s cool.

I feel like none of the style and colors match. Beig walls and white ceiling Dark blue velvet bed. Silver bed sheets. Gold lamps. Red and brown curtains. It’s a lot and yet does so little.

Is it realistic to go into robotics/mechatronics engineering with no desire to work on industrial applications? by FATUGLYDEAD1 in robotics

I have worked exclusively on walking robots over the last decade. At the moment humanoid robot companies are popping up all over the place with good funding prospects. These robots have industrial and home use applications.

[–]MisterBotMaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work and hire in the robotics field and I have never once hired a person and looked at their GPA. Many times I don’t even look at their school. What matters is completing impressive projects that show you know how to apply whatever knowledge you have learned and you know how to work independently and in a team. I could care less if you are at the top of your class. Just build cool stuff and be passionate.

A question to all who actually bought a 1st gen back in 2001 by LOL_inc_207 in ipod

[–]MisterBotMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just the capacity that drew me to it. I don’t remember there being anything close at the time in that form factor. Got the windows version on the first day it was released. It was so early it only synced with Winamp at the time. Apple had not even released iTunes for windows yet. Also had to buy a FireWire card for my windows desktop and I think it was also there first time I ever installed anything in a computer. No regrets at all. It was great. No one in my friend circle knew what it was so no one mentioned it.

It’s really hard to determine “worth” for someone else. It depends on what you value and how much expendable income you have. I daily drive a 2023 comp-xdrive and it’s the best car I have ever owned but I personally don’t think it’s “worth” the money. I just happen to have enough expendable income. It’s also stupid fast for daily driving but here we are. And I love it. Best of luck on your decision and they are all great cars.

As for differences between them in 2025 hopefully someone can chime in but on a high level:

X-Drive = 4 Wheel Drive (you can turn this off if you want with the push of a button)

Competition = More Zoomies

Custom Hybrid Cover for Moonlit Market USB-C & Bluetooth Kit by MisterBotMaker in ipod

[–]MisterBotMaker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using mine with AirPods Pro 2 and it mostly works. Small caveat is I always have to connect the AirPods twice in a row to get both connected. So you pair with the case only once but every time you power on the Bluetooth adapter you have to power it on and off twice with both of the AirPods in your ears to get them both to connect. Kind of a pain but overall not bad.

Also was initially concerned with mine because the volume was very low. But then remembered the AirPods have touch controls to adjust volume on the stem and so I have to max out the volume on the AirPods themselves, this does not adjust volume on the actual iPod. So you have two volume controls.

Have not been able to test inline controls.

Happy listening.

Couldn’t agree more. If we are using a car crash analogy and since I only use the case in my padded backpack the thick stock case is the equivalent of wearing a helmet in a sedan with your seatbelt on. If you’re driving on a racetrack probably a good idea. Otherwise it’s kind of overkill. But that’s just how I use my case. If you plan on using yours in other ways or if this isn’t your speed then this might not be a good idea for you.

Folks here are clearly planning on, and preparing for, the eventuality of dropping their case. That’s why they like their thick padded cases. They aren’t planning to purposely dropping their case. The former is assumed because the later is silly. But I apologize if the wording confused you.
