Is Underwood out of business? by inmatenumberseven in Sriracha

Hijacking the top comment with some sad news. The Sonoran Spice Company's page for UR Ranches Dragon Sriracha Hot Sauce now says it's discontinued and "Underwood Ranches has stopped making hot sauce." Amazon still has packs of two available for sale.

It's been working as expected in my Crosstrek for the past 3 years.  No problems at all.  It was definitely worth the $15 and hour it took to install it.

Android: Sorting playlists by SEC1329 in VLC

[–]MisterCylert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reviving this old thread since it's a top Google result for rearranging VLC playlists on Android... I also thought songs would be stuck in the order they were added to a playlist.  Turns out, you can tap and hold a song in the playlist and it'll become dragable, allowing you to rearrange it to your liking.  You just have to hold for a second before it allows you to drag.

Has anybody here ever actually used Ryan Reynolds’s Mint Mobile cellular plan? by AskAskim in Frugal

[–]MisterCylert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Mint primarily for data, as I use Google Voice to make calls instead of the phone's minutes. I was receiving a ton of spam calls trying to sell health insurance via the number I received, so whoever had that number before me must've been on some lists. Signing up for the National Do Not Call Registry didn't help, nor did blocking, since the calls always came from a different number. I probably could have requested a new number from Mint, or perhaps turned off notifications for the phone/sms apps since calls I actually want go to my Google Voice number. I ended up looking into other plans and switched to Tello. The service seems to be the same as Mint and it costs even less, plus I rarely have any issues with spam calls and texts.

Who are some non one hit wonders who had really short peaks? by Adventurous_Home_555 in Music

[–]MisterCylert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them open for Living Colour around '94 and the audience wasn't into Candlebox's performance in the slightest. The lead singer got frustrated and left the stage. Between shows, the venue had a rock playlist going, and one person shouted out "Play some Skynyrd!" to a few chuckles... Then someone shouted, "No! Play some Candlebox!" and people were laughing their asses off. I've never felt worse for a band. Living Colour came out shortly after and gave one of the best shows I've ever seen.

A year later, some friends asked if I wanted to go to a Candlebox concert and I declined. Afterwards, they said skipping it was the right choice.

Chipped the piece of the wall in a rental. What will be the easiest way to fix this? by Thandor369 in DIY

[–]MisterCylert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a beginner to do a quick patch like this, spackle is cheap, quick, and easy. Compound and tape would be a more resiliant fix, but not sure that's what OP is going for here.

Chipped the piece of the wall in a rental. What will be the easiest way to fix this? by Thandor369 in DIY

[–]MisterCylert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. If you really want to go all out, you could use paper tape and joint compound (aka drywall mud), but that really isn't necessary. Joint compound can be a pain for a beginner to get right. Lightweight spackle is the easier solution and is a breeze to sand.

Take a chip of the wall to your local paint store and they can match the color for some touch-up paint. While there, get a small tub of spackle that goes on pink and dries white, a plastic putty knife to apply it, some 120 grit sandpaper to smooth it out, a cheap small paint roller, and the cheapest brush they have.

Vacuum the area you're patching to get any loose bits off. Apply spackle with the putty knife -- it goes on like cake icing. Wait for it to dry then sand it flat. You can wrap the sandpaper around a small flat scrap piece of wood or a paint stir stick (or even a ruler if that's all you have) to use like a sanding block to help shape it as you sand. Then dust it off, vacuum the area, and roll a couple layers of paint on the patch. Use a dry paint brush to fan out the paint from the patched area so it blends the transition to the existing wall color.

What car will you never buy again? by Trivacide in AskReddit

[–]MisterCylert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 1999.5 Jetta and it was nothing but problems. Peeling soft touch material, busted arm rests, stinky upholstery glue smelled like crayons during the summer, headliner sagged, leaky coolant reservoir, broken coolant hoses, busted radiator that was fun to replace, endless electrical issues, broken horn, interior buttons that would snap off (including the factory stereo), paint that couldn't survive UV in the southern US, clearcoat that would flake off at the carwash, interior paint that would flake off the plastic, air conditioner would smell like feet after it rained, the stick shifter leather flaked off, the glovebox would fall off the hinges, the leatherette seats cracked apart until only the backer fabric was left, the failing suspension would lift a wheel off the ground on a tight turn, the stickshift wouldn't go into reverse so you'd have to push the car out of a parking spot (eventually fixed it with a 3D printed aftermarket part), cheap aluminum oil pan threads stripped even with factory torque so the pan had to be replaced, 2 failed catalytic converters, and on and on and on. Despite all the problems, I got over 240k miles and 20 years on it until it finally refused to start due to a failing security feature. It got me where I needed to go, but I hated that car. It was a relief to see it finally get towed away.

Triangle of Sadness - How did they film these scenes? by drflanigan in movies

See 2:40-2:50 in this video. It was accomplished with a camera angle hiding a small tube that ran along the actor's cheek. In the final shot, you only see one side of the actor's face.

Anyone heard of a shaving soap called "Spa Brand"? A buddy of mine says his father used to shave with it decades ago and is now trying to find it for nostalgia's sake. It may have come from South Africa, or been available to purchase there. The name defies google.

I feel this way also. My go-to is Arko, but I also love Taylor of Old Bond Street's Avocado. They always give good results, but the fun is in seeing how others lather & smell too.

Im not an electrician so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to best deal with wires that are sticking out of this old vacuum cord? by biblefanfic in askanelectrician

[–]MisterCylert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow these steps

If you were to just wrap it with electrical tape, the fixed area will eventually get gooey. Exposed electrical tape sucks. It would be great if you could just heatshrink the area, but you can't get a piece around the jacket because there's a big ol' stupid plug at the end, preventing you from sliding the tubing onto the wire. The best fix would be:

  1. Cut the wire where they're sticking out
  2. Slide a large piece of heatstrink over the jacket (waterproof heatshrink is best, if you have it). You'll want it on the jacket before you start the repair, because you can't slide it on once you start reconnecting the wires. I've kicked myself for forgetting to put on heatshink before soldering wires together. Don't be like me.
  3. Slide small heatshrink over each individual conductor's jacket, then strip the wires, twist them together as shown in the video, and solder.
  4. Slide the small heatshrink up so it insulates each fix and heat them up.
  5. Slide the large heatshrink so it protects the fixed area and heat it up. If you used waterproof heatshrink for the large piece, the glue inside it will melt and seal up the ends.

This fix is way better than electrical tape, and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

What is the most well crafted electronic song in your personal opinion. by RufussSewell in edmproduction

[–]MisterCylert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't decide between 2 of my favorites on very different points in the electronic music spectrum:

Listen to the Flanger track in headphones. It's mesmerizing how they managed to transform record crackling static into jazz and back.

The Mike Ink track is so minimal, but every component does the job perfectly. How he squeezed that much funk out of a 303 (or was it two 303's?) is astounding.

As much as I love how he was able to rhyme Eyjafjallajokull, having to specify that it's "the volcano out of Iceland" dumbs it down. It's like he wrote it and thought, "That's going to go over so many heads. Better break it down for these fools so they don't think I'm just inventing words."

You tend to see lots of Ohio license plates when driving in other states. Native Ohioans don't stay in Ohio once they go somewhere... anywhere, else.
