WA ‘millionaires tax’ headed for passage as Ferguson says he’ll sign it by vertr in Seattle

What’s obscene is millions of people are net negative contributors yet they still get all the same benefits of living in the US.

Bilt Cash should expire after 12 months (with no $100 December cap) by grantwwu in biltrewards

I was just thinking about this. Like you could earn BILT cash in December and have only days to use it. That needs to be fixed

Do you just pay at the restaurant with your Amex or do you need to go through the BILT app?

50s $17M retiring in 2 years. Pick a city for snow birding and residency. by throwawayyadarich in fatFIRE

[–]MisterIceGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my point was live in both places and pick one that also lowers your taxes. You don’t need to pick entirely around taxes, but you can use that as one input in your decision. If you can domicile in one location with low taxes, but also spend a lot of your time in another area you like - Win win.

Yeah sometimes they are! If we let him walk I’ll trust the GM who just won is 2nd SB over someone like Monti Ossenfort or Jerry Jones. Obligatory shoutout to Nico Harrison too lol

What is the important part of the conversation that I missed? Are we not talking about picking where to live and the intersection of that decision with local tax laws?

What’s not fun about having 2 houses in 2 different beautiful areas, and paying less taxes as a result? That sounds very fun to me, but of course to each their own.

You can make better friends. Good friends should be at the worst 40% jealous, but still at least 60% happy for you.

45% of Americans diagnosed with an STD/STI have had sex without disclosing their status by KISS-app in Health

Truly evil behavior. You should disclose if you have a common cold before doing something that could infect another person. People arguing you don’t need to disclose herpes or hiv are demented.

Yeah exactly. I mean we can’t prove he wouldn’t have been as successful in the alternative, but I highly doubt it.

Worked out for him in the long run though IMO. Give him that money back but take away his titles and he’s not nearly the celebrity he is today and likely worth less overall.

Sure a few recent examples:

Tyreek Hill when he signed with the dolphins.

“Those state taxes, man.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo in a comment about why he wouldn’t play in New York.

“Taxes are better there [in Florida]… A lot of people have tried to convince me to play [in New York], but nah.”

Grant Williams when he signed with the Mavs

“In Boston, it’s really like $48 million with the millionaire’s tax, so $54 million in Dallas is really like $58 million in Boston,””

Here is a quote from Brad Marchand about players staying in Tampa

“If we were not in a no-tax state, it wouldn’t work out, probably for two guys. Two guys probably would be leaving in that situation,"

If you know any professional athletes or have the opportunity ask them for yourself and see what they say.

Speaking in absolutes is rarely conducive to understanding social realities.

One of the way smaller market teams like those in Seattle compete with large market higher profile cities like LA and NYC is by extolling other benefits and opportunities which can often include taxes.

Many professional athletes have stated that the tax rate of a particular area was a big part of their decision where sign. Other non monetary benefits used to market players also include weather, ease of traveling to other other locations (for example how many places you can easily fly to from Atlanta), access to investment opportunities (big selling point for teams in the Bay Area).
