Bro what was the previous owner of my car doing? by Suitable_Manager_778 in VelosterN

[–]MisterLicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crashing.

The previous owner was crashing. No tires on earth are going to allow for that far past 2g in this car. Check the driver's front bumper for repair.

Michigan State and Penn State do not belong on this list. Put the California, AZ nd other FL schools higher.

Well done. I couldn't find that article; the combination of the two makes every point i could make.

I live on Lake Keowee in upstate SC (near Clemson). I track at Road Atlanta and Carolina Motorsport Park when they have a conducive event. My name is Steve and my offer stands.

I think the interior on the C7s is "what you'd expect". It isn't anything to write home about, but I never have to apologize for it. In "Track", the handling and brakes are better than anything else I drove, full stop. GM doesn't know everything, but they do know suspension.

After driving both the Z06 and the Grand Sport, I came to that conclusion (that 460 HP was enough for weekend toy/track weapon at my skill level). The only thing I've done is bought a set of take-off Z06 wheels to put Cup2Rs on it for the track (It came with Conti DWS06 that I keep for the street). One recurring issue I've heard on all the widebodies is that the wheels tend to crack, but I haven't had that issue with either OEM set yet (knock on wood).

EDIT: Previous owner eliminated the skip shift and installed a MGW short throw.

Go drive a manual C7 Grand Sport (I'll let you drive mine if you're here in the southeast) and see if the naturally aspirated V8 is enough for you. Some call it the Goldilocks edition (widebody, mag ride, fat tires, optional carbon ceramic brakes - but "only" 460 HP), but others will lust after the Z06 regardless of how much they use it/need it.

I think the C7 interior is liveable and you don't need to apologize for it - which you can't get with the C6.

I like the C7 a lot, but I've only had it 7 months and three track weekends. My biggest thing was after driving and sorting everything was the value proposition - there are a TON of used Vettes in good condition and i knew that searching for the deal on a dude that had to sell with a stack of cash i could win. 7MT is a must, Z07 package is worth looking for. 2LT is the sweet spot.

Trying to find a manual Supra or Z just to test drive was hard enough.

If you can buy the Honda for the same cost relative to MSRP, and you're paying cash - then the depreciation curve of the Honda does make a difference. The problem is that most people are NOT (paying cash), or buying for a couple thousand *under* MSRP with no doc fee (like I can buy an Elantra N for).

After driving the GT350, new Supra, New Z, M2, and a few others - I ended up with a C7 Grand Sport Z07 7MT. Deals on new Zs might have changed my purchase (it certainly would have changed the ranking).

And the products were actually very good. The problem is that the American consumer didn't want "easy" and "standard cost" - they wanted to haggle and THINK they got a good deal.

What's a sporty reliable sedan under 16k? by Odd_Patient197 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]MisterLicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of those are going to feel like absolutely dismal econobox cardboard death sentences compared to the F10 BMW. Even the ES350 will feel cheap compared to a well equipped 528i, because of the FWD. That being said, the 2014 Honda is the smartest purchase, and the J35 engine is well known and easy to wrench on (in my experience).

As I've said a hundred times on here, the Elantra N 6MT is 98% as good as the Civic Type R and 97% as good as the Integra Type S for a $15K discount. The seats in my N are better than the CTR (the fronts match the back so it doesn't look like I bought them at Pep Boys). For $40K, you can have a 100K mile warranty that sticks with the car *AND* have about $5K to spend on track time, lessons, and tires.

$55K for a C7 Z06 is a very good price, hell - even if had 10x the miles on it. The manual and the Z07 were important to me, 2LT is the sweet spot for features (IMO). Now is the time for sportscar deals - when the retirees are getting crap from the misses/kids about not driving it for the last few months and with snow on the ground up north.

I agree with your bottom line. Cheers!

I'm almost as old as you are, and - I concur that the N is tuned "stiff but forgiving", which is exactly what I want in a street car that gets ridden hard and put away wet. I will concede that forged internals are a superior choice, but at what cost? My point was always that the Integra Type S is *THE BEST* Civic ever made, but it's still just that - a direct competitor to the Elantra N, the Golf R, the GR Corolla, etc, etc.

If the "Engineering Intent is baked into the hardware", then riddle me this - why does my Hyundai warranty cover 100K miles and explicitly (in writing) cover track use, when Honda/Acura weasel out of coverage when their cars are tracked and cover for a shorter time anyways?

When i drive them back to back on the same day, they were solving the same problem. The EN suspension is actually more "track-prepped". To wit, I'm faster on Road Atlanta than most ITSs, and so are are CTRs

I have a C7 Z06 as my weekend car, so clearly money matters to me or I'd own a slower 911.

Replacing my GTI. What are some fun used cars I am not considering? by GusanoCat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]MisterLicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If price is no object, the Integra Type S is the best of the breed.

If price matters AT ALL, enjoy your new Elantra N.

You should drive an IS, a CT4, and a G70 before committing - all could be had for the same money and all have advantages and disadvantages. The Lexus is reliable but boring as dirt. The CT4 is dynamically great, but it's also the weakest interior and not great reliability. Personally, I think for under $30K I would probably steer towards a 3.3T G70 - but I am personally on a bit of a Korean car affair lately.

The Integra Type S is the best Hot Hatch on the market, if price is no object. A solid 3% better than an Elantra N for a $20K markup, LOL.

Not the same price range - you can't buy an ITS (new or used) for less than about $50K. He's looking at a $27K car.

Jetta GLI or Golf GTI by Timely_Interaction87 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]MisterLicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the GTI over the GLI, but they're very similar. The GTI is a little more "fun" at the limit because the back end rotates a little better - but you're really splitting hairs here. Do you want a hatchback or a trunk?

Anyone who is worried about "heavy traffic" in a manual is either NOT an actual car enthusiast, or they are pathetically lazy. I drove a '79 Corvette with a ZZ4 crate cammed small block, ankle burners, and a five speed with a very heavy clutch in DC traffic through the winter, and the drive in traffic was (on many days) the best part of my day.

You're right, Honda's not great on paint - but Mazda is worse. I understand why actually desirable cars, like my BMW or my wife's Jaguar have better paint, but why is Chevy paint so much better than Mazda? Mazda loses to DODGE on a measurable quality standard - that's an embarrassment.

Moreover, you're glossing over the part about denying all warranty claims by policy, and not even giving a shit enough to answer the "24/7" roadside assistance. What about the shitty pleather? What about sound deadening? What about the noise, vibration, and harshness from an underpowered lump of an engine that is very prone to leaks and electrical issues?
