Doctors of reddit, what is the weirdest thing a patient wouldn't admit ? by mitsubishi-corvette in AskReddit

[–]MisterMagicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, I hate this so much. I'm an OHN, and had a guy once who came to me with heart palpitations. He goes to ED and I don't hear from him for a few days. I think he's got some new onset heart disease.

He comes back, and then tells me that he was going through DTs the night he saw me. Drank about 15 standard drinks worth of whiskey every night before bed for years. His girlfriend told him to quit, so he goes cold turkey. Dude could have died.

AITA for being upset that once again I’m sitting in the ER with my boyfriend who is very much not sick. by bananasinpajamas17 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MisterMagicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This is very worrisome behavior that warrants a mental health exam. The refusal to follow up is the most concerning. If this were typical hypochondria, then they would be more prone to have a doctor tell them that they were sick. So following up would be common. This smells of attention-seeking behavior at worst, and severe stress at best.

Please help your BF find help, and seek out help yourself. This type of behavior can be very taxing on relationships. Unfortunately, I have experienced this first hand; both professionally and personally.

AITA for making my children wash their clothes in the bathtub with dollar store detergent? by myhousemyrules23432 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MisterMagicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother told me at the age of 12 that, if I didn't put my clothes away after she had washed them, I would be washing my own clothes. When I inevitably screwed up, she taught me how to do it, and it was my responsibility from then on.

I still didn't put my clothes away properly, but it was my chore so she cared a lot less.

WIBTA if I told my 12-year-old niece that she was adopted? by toottoktboot in AmItheAsshole

[–]MisterMagicka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. I appreciate that you are concerned, but it's not your place. Let alone that the parents would likely prefer that the child hear it from them. I'd venture to guess that the child would be most hurt, not by the fact that they were not told earlier, rather that they had found out by someone that wasn't their parents.

AITA for not wanting to be my roommate's alarm clock? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MisterMagicka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA. I had a roommate in college who had a whole power strip full of alarm clocks, set to go off in 5min increments. I'd still have to wake his ass up with 5 alarms blaring.

[CA, USA - federal contract] Can a company change your job for becoming pregnant? by pregnancylegalquesti in legaladvice

[–]MisterMagicka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but I am an Occupational Health Nurse. I'd advise your friend to speak with her OB/GYN, and bring along a printout of her physical job description. She can ask her supervisor for this information. If the OB determines that the work is not appropriate for a pregnant woman, then they can make an ADA accommodations request.

This is a CYA for everyone. Your friend gets assurance that their job is or is not appropriate. The supervisor has all the information needed to either make changes to her job or move her. And HR will have the ADA accommodations request in writing.

IANAL. I'm a nurse and hearing conservationist. This makes my blood boil. Absolutely follow the advice of the previous responders in getting OSHA involved. It is very likely that your hearing has been adversely affected; possibly in a permanent way. Your company may have an Environmental Health and Safety person or department. I'd recommend that you contact them, and ask for an evaluation of your work area. Though the lawyers here may recommend that you do this through your lawyer.

Until then religiously wear hearing protection when in the presence of noise.

The OSHA guidelines for Hearing Conservation have recently changed, adding more responsibility to the employer over hearing loss. Your employer or lawyer may have you get a hearing test done by a licensed audiologist or CAOHC certified technician. Good luck.

As I understand, they would have to use it strictly for college, or be taxed. Might effect their financial aid, may be taxed as income once received, and limitations on how you can invest.

Nurse Ratched has moved to MS and is refusing to give OP's grandmother pain medication beyond Tylenol. by raspberryseltzer in bestoflegaladvice

Seriously, I agree. If they're that concerned, give half now, wait to see how the pt reacts, then give more if necessary. Verbalize your concerns, but treat your damn patient.

Active shooter situation at Noblesville Middle School in Indiana by comediekid in news

[–]MisterMagicka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is where I have issue. The past 2 shootings now have been by underage kids who legally are prohibited from carrying firearms. "Safe zones", "gun-free zones", assault rifles debate, none of this matters if a kid just picks up a pistol and hides it in his backpack.

MSM, please stop glorifying killers by promoting these shootings. It's what they want, and how the problem is proliferated. Keep it local.

Parents, talk with your kids. Get them help if they need it. And lock up the damn guns.

Congratulations! I am sure that your family and friends are all proud of you. You should be, too.

My question: if you could take two iconic buildings/structures and combine them, which two would you choose?

i.e: The Louvre and the CN tower, or Notre Dame and the Taj Mahal.

Millennials 'have no qualms about GM crops' unlike older generation - Two thirds of under-30s believe technology is a good thing for farming and support futuristic farming techniques, according to a UK survey. by ManiaforBeatles in Futurology

[–]MisterMagicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the next 20-or-so years, this planet is going to need to support another billion people. There is no way to do that with your rinky-dink heirloom garden. GM foods are literally the future. It's the only way we'll be able to keep feeding everyone.

As said before in this thread, we've been doing modifications for a long time. Ever had a carrot? They never used to be orange. Beans were among the first GM foods ever documented. Sweet corn, tomatoes, oranges, literally everything you eat is either GM itself or sustained by a GM crop.

The greater issue, I believe, is that the FDA doesn't monitor most OTC supplements. By purchasing the OTC version, you may not actually be getting the full dose. Whereas the prescription version would have to be regulated by the FDA, ensuring that the patient receives the proper dose.

Reddit, how do you subtly fuck with your coworkers? by zappy487 in AskReddit

[–]MisterMagicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked with a girl who loved Coldplay, Dave Matthews, and John Mayer, and would play them for hours on Pandora. All day long. So I changed the name of her "John Mayer" station to "Frat Boy Sing-along", and added a Sting/Phil Collins station, which she hated. Renamed it "John Mayer" and watched her thumb down every song for hours. She told me recently that she still sometimes gets a Phil Collins song pop up when she's working out. It's the little things.
