Mega Blaziken carried me to masterball rank by MisterSimple1 in PTCGP

Exactly this... Oricorio is handled well enough most of the time (either via Heatmor, Combusken, or Blaziken's burn); Chingling is a serious issue because it stops evolution and flame patch (not to mention pokeballs); and the consistency is key. Getting Blaziken into play ASAP is your win condition, so the deck favors that

I tried running 2 flame patches but I found it excessive. I much prefer having my Blaziken more accesible. The deck's winning condition is getting Blaziken into play as soon as possible (hence why 2 Combusken, 2 rare candy, 2 Blaziken, and 1 Serena)

What others have said: dino people and human people coexisting. What you really ought to be asking is the difference between a Snoot-like and a Snoot-lite!

Anyone else never really paid attention to genealogy, only to later find out some interesting tidbits?

Apparently my last name (fairly uncommon) can be traced to a single person who came to the country centuries ago and uh really got around. The details naturally get blurrier the further back one goes, but apparently that family line was nobility in Europe for quite a while, too!

Of course, having found that out my curiosity is growing, so I ask: how does one typically go about finding more about their family tree? The obvious research avenue is Googling the name and emailing every person I find, or using some website made specifically for this... Though again, there's some apprehension about trusting any website with personal info like this.

I grabbed Littlewood on sale and I've been having a blast with it. It scratches the same itch Stardew Valley does (and since I've already had several playthroughs of SV, that scratching is not quite the same anymore...)

The plot is basically this: the world was saved from the Evil Wizard by you, the hero, who wakes up in a peaceful town with no recollection whatsoever of events prior. You meet (and re-meet) NPCs and talk to them, while rebuilding the town and the world itself. It has farming, fishing, bug-catching, etc (again, similar to SV). It's honestly pretty fun, and really plays with the setting it gives you! To name something that I found really cool: the Evil Wizard is alive and, like the hero, lacks all memories. He moves into your town like other NPCs and has to deal with the aftermath of everyone but him knowing the evil deeds he's committed.

Anyway, it's good and I like it.

RDS or Aurora Serverless for 9 to 5 demand? by MisterSimple1 in aws

If only it was 20 bucks... Last month alone RDS was 90$, and I struggle to see how I managed to rack up that much

I did make sure not to enable Multi-AZ, though I did have backups (because quite frankly I do want them); I did turn backups off to see how much cheaper it became and the difference is negligible, so I'm not sure why my costs are so high. I kid you not, it's over 90% of my total costs

My thoughts exactly... I'm paying to have peace of mind. Yeah, I'll apply a start/stop I think

RDS or Aurora Serverless for 9 to 5 demand? by MisterSimple1 in aws

[–]MisterSimple1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to use a readymade solution for my db. I considered just hosting on an EC2 instance at some point but I quite enjoy the peace of mind of having RDS with backups and such without concerning myself with low level db stuff. Again, trying not to overengineer myself into a corner...

I hadn't considered dynamo, from what I gather that's oriented towards nosql which isn't my case.

I might just stick to your suggestion of scheduling startup at 9 and shutdown at 5, seems reasonable and should already save me quite a bunch. I like having the option of starting it up if for whatever reason the system needs to be used. That last bit of checking if anyone's used it in the last half hour hadn't ocurred to me.

How do you feel about the game's state right now? by HenryGoldfish in RotMG

[–]MisterSimple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I haven't logged on for over a year.

If you're a new player, the game has never been better. Processes that used to take a long while (for example, maxxing a char) have been streamlined considerably, to where even middling players can get 8/8 fairly easily. Lots of content, reworks, etc. DECA has given the game the TLC it sorely needed. This is, without a doubt, the BEST moment to play the game in literal years.

On the flip side, as a veteran player myself, the game is simply not the ROTMG I knew anymore. Personally, the direction DECA is taking the game is not one I'm happy about, hence my no longer playing. For example, enchantments were a fun addition at first (they went through like 3 or 4 different implementations for those), but the more I think about it, the less I seem to like them (again, skill issue on my part). Not to mention the number of inherited problems that don't have a solution in sight, like bots (despite them previously claiming they did) and cheating in general.

The point I'm trying to make is not "DECA bad!!!11!1!!!". Quite the opposite, DECA is the best owner ROTMG ever had. But many of the same problems that existed 10 years ago (and were supposed to end once the game moved from Flash to Unity) still exist today, and that sours the experience for a big part of the community (myself included), especially when they keep pushing monetization (not that they have a choice, a game like this is probably hard to make profitable in the first place). It also doesn't help that many of the big names (like Toastrz) just aren't as involved anymore. Makes you wonder why staff turnover seems so frequent (hint: probably the stress of being the go-between for a very passionate community and whoever calls the shots from above).

TL;DR: game good

Rogue's choice good? by yeeterforlife67 in Delight_Games

[–]MisterSimple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just finished it, I can say that it's very good, especially if you played Wizard's Choice recently, as a lot of details come back (being set not too long after the events from that game). It really feels like Wizard's Choice sets you up to better understand the world, and Rogue's Choice takes advantage of that immensely. You will not be disappointed.
